We have been using VIP tires and service since 2017 in Gorham. From the very first service to my most recent purchase of five new tires and headlights, the store has taken very good care of us. Specifically, Damian, who is hands-down, one of the best sales people we've met I have a 2014 jeep wrangler and had no idea about what tires to purchase. He spent 30 minutes going over different types of tires including the pros and cons of each one. Damien took the time to answer all of my questions and listen to my concerns. Furthermore the entire staff were very friendly and helpful. I feel that Damien has gone the extra distance to provide great customer service, which I believe is natural for him. Needed an inspection. Check engine light prompted a recommended diagnostic, 149.00 for hour labor, plus 18.00 for inspection. No problem. I was not told anything about time. After 2.5 hours, I went to the desk trying not to show my frustration that they totally keep you in the dark for 2.5 hours. Passive aggressive ponytail guy throws something on the counter and storms into the garage, comes back and charges me, hands me the paperwork, explains nothing. Did I mention it was 2.5 hours? Dishonest dirt bags. My car had an oil leak, I asked them to diagnose the leak, and get me a quote for the fix. They wanted over $500 to replace the oil pan on a 2003 jetta TDI. $300 for the oil pan alone and $200ish to put it in. The MOST expensive oil pan I could locate for the car online was $85... They charged me around $100 to put it on the lift and diagnose the very obvious crack and dent in the oil pan. Avoid this place. read more

Went in for a simple tire valve replacement and was told I needed to get all four tires replaced. When i said that's not what i needed he turned around and said he's not doing it. This is the location I have used since they opened this Gorham location. Over the last year and a half management has changed and so has the training that the employees receive, especially in the customer service area. I had an appointment to get my truck inspected Sunday. When I walked in Dan (a 'Service Manager') at the counter didn't look up to greet me, after several minutes making notes on a piece of paper he finally looked up and said "what can I do for you". I get it you're busy, but customers should be greeted when they enter a location, even if just saying I'll be with you in a moment. I gave Dan my keys to get state inspection and in two minutes time he came back and said "I'll save you $18, you're truck isn't going to pass due to tires". I go out with him and look at my tires after reluctantly agreeing with him that one tire doesn't meet state specification - I asked if he had a tire he could put on. Without answering the question he begins to pick-out other things of why the truck wouldn't pass - mind you Dan is a 'Service Manager' and self-admitted is not certified by the State of Maine to do inspections. It was quite clear from the way Dan was acting he didn't want to inspect my truck. Even if it wasn't going to pass, it would've been nice to know what it needed in order to pass an inspection. I went to a different garage in town to get a state inspections and it turns out the tire (the one Dan said wasn't inspect-able) had enough tread to pass Maine inspection legally and the only deficiency the other garage found was my truck needed a brake light bulb - which they replaced and then put a sticker on the truck. I'm not sure if Dan is instructed to turn customers away like this by upper management (sales tactic?), he severally lacks customer service skills, or was never provided customer service training. But I won't be returning to this location after the experience Dan provided at the Gorham, ME VIP location. I couldn't recommend anyone visit this location due to the lack of trust and customer service they provided. read more

Worst customer service I have ever recieved. When I asked for a quote online about an oil change I was told $40. When I got to my appointment I was told my total would be $104 for an oil change and inspection. Obviously this is more than I was planning on spending and money is a little tight right now. When I questioned the price the man was extremely rude to me and told me I wasn't told that price, until I pulled up the email. Then he said that the price was only starting at $40 but that my car needed synthetic (I'm not sure what the point of putting all my information in online for a quote was then.) At this point I was incredibly flustered because he was being very rude when I was nothing but polite. I then told him I didn't think I would be able to do that today (because quite frankly I can't afford that price right now). At this point I was flustered and embarrassed and just wanted to get out of there so I told him I would do the inspection some other time. He got angry and then took my registration he had in his hand and LITERALLY THREW IT at me and said fine. I took it and pretty much ran out of there. Awful. read more

I came in today for an oil change, inspection sticker, and a quote on new tires. I will say, the girl behind the counter is VERY knowledgable, which is a huge plus. Being a girl, I always feel like I'm not taken seriously when it comes to automotive topics. No, I don't need ten thousand things, thanks, I need a $30 oil change and a sticker. Thankfully, this was not one of those experiences. In fact, I felt really good about it. At VIP in Bangor I was once told if I didn't get the engine cleaning my truck would catch on fire while I was driving it. Really. That was said to me. I thought it was a little extreme so I took it elsewhere. I'm glad I gave VIP a second chance (for convenience alone) HOWEVER my keys have been out of my hand for nearly 50 minutes and I am the first appointment of the day with what looks like no hope of getting this done within the hour. I will probably be late to work. There is one technician working on a car that seems to have been here overnight. That's annoying. I DID get a decent quote for new tires to be installed next week. That's promising. F for timeliness, A for honesty, average rating of three stars. Meh. Could be better. read more

Waited almost a half hour to be helped and watched them fill out paper work in front of me instead of asking what I was there for. Then once they got my keys, my car sat outside for a hour before they took it in. All that was being done for work on the car was putting two tires on rear of the car!! Mounting and balancing for two tires!! They should have had it down in no time! But after another hour, they came and got me to show me that the lugnut had been snapped off and broken inside the rim, couldn't believe it. When looking for a place to get my car repaired I look for people who listen to my concerns, conduct themselves in a professional manner and charge reasonable rates never the cheapest I find that scary what are they leaving out? When going into this VIP store was greeted in a friendly manner and assisted as soon as they were done the prior customer. The gentlemen listened to my concerns and confirmed he understood what I wanted, quoted a reasonable price and time to complete the work. The work was completed as promised and was fully explained. My wife had a scheduled appointment for winter tire change-over at 12:00 pm today. Dropped the car at 11:30am and was assured work would be complete by 4:00pm. We returned to the store at 4:30pm and the car had yet to taken in to be worked on. Needless to say we were very upset. The car was taken in immediately since no work was being done in the service bays at this time. It was found at this time that one of the winter tires was defective due to a previous poor diagnosis of a flat tire by this same VIP location asnd only two tires could be mounted at this time. If I could give no stars for this review I would. The one star that I have to give would be for the acting manager of this location. He was from the Scarborough, Maine store and was very understanding and helpful. We are having the replacement for the defective tire shipped to his location for service. IN THE FUTURE I WOULD DRIVE ON 4 FLAT TIRES FOR 10 MILES BEFORE I WOULD STOP AT THE GORHAM VIP LOCATION FOR SERVICE OF ANY KIND. read more

We come here often to have our oil changed. The people are really nice, and help us out whenever we have a problem. The only services we get done here are oil changes, and inspections. Mostly just inspections. If we have a problem with our car they are pretty through with explaining what is wrong. They also always have no problem letting us know their rate, and giving an estimate of what it'll cost to fix it with them. They're a big chain mechanic, so I expect their pricing to be higher than others. Which is why we choose to go elsewhere to fix any problems with our cars. But we like getting our inspections done here because they are so thorough. The only issue I have is the timing of everything. We will make an appointment for 2 pm, and our car won't get looked at until 2:30. We're always stuck sitting in the waiting room for at least a min of an hour. It'd be nice if they could at least stick to the appointment time. read more

This is an overall review of many trips I've taken here. I've been bringing my vehicles here since 2009. Unfortunately they used to be pretty good in the beginning but just kept getting worse since then. So much so I take all my big vehicle repairs elsewhere. I don't trust them to do much more than the basics (batteries, tires and oil changes). For example: 1. I needed new brakes when my 2007 Subaru Forester reached 70K miles. Seems reasonable and therefore had them done. Ever since that time (and I've brought the car back at least 6 times) the brakes squealed extremely loud. I mean people across the street could easily hear it. Every time I brought it back they said there was nothing wrong and they either had brake dust or the brakes needed to be broken in. After a couple of year's I gave up questioning it. I should also mention I took my car here every year to get it stickered. Therefore they should have been keeping an eye on the brakes. A few years later my brakes were feeling extremely worn down, not braking properly kind of a grinding feeling. The car had just been stickered by this VIP a couple of months prior. I decided to give another auto repair shop a try (Which I heard good things about) and I'm glad I did. The guy replaced the brakes and rotors and when I came to pick up the car the first thing he said was "your brakes were squealing, weren't they"? I said, "all the time". He said, "the pins (brake caliper pins) were never put in properly, therefore the brakes were coming down at an angle and causing the squealing". I can't say for sure that's it since I didn't watch him do the repair job but I can say that my brakes now feel normal and they haven't squealed once. 2. My other repair on my Subaru involved the check engine light coming on with the cruise control light blinking. The issue is a slow gas leak. I brought it to VIP and they said it was the gas tank. They replaced the gas tank and gas cap (not a cheap repair) and the issue still kept coming back. I brought back the car several times and they kept blowing me off saying there wasn't an issue. Fast forward a couple of years after I found the other auto repair shop and the guy immediately said, "Of course, your having problems, get a factory gas cap". I got one and haven't had an issue since. I can bring up many other issues (such as constantly being billed for an alignment although I bought the lifetime alignment package). They do take it off but I hate having to dispute the charge every time I go in. I'm sorry if this is long winded but I tend to appreciate the reviews with the most detail (and relevancy) and thought I would try to provide the same. read more

There are admittedly a lot of options available out there when you are looking for service for your vehicle. What I look for is a place that is able to do a wide range of work at a reasonable price, that can be available when I need them to be there, has competent technicians working in their shop, and has a clean organized facility. VIP Tires and Service in Gorham fits all of these categories. They have a modern and clean building on well maintained grounds in a nice neighborhood. The exterior and interior of the store and shop are clean and organized. The desk staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I have been able to get my vehicle in without an appointment with minimal wait time on multiple occasions. The staff collects my information so I can track my service done to my vehicle online from home. Every time I come in they perform a courtesy inspection to look for any major defects on my truck, as well as checking tire pressures and topping off fluids as a part of any service performed. They have two ASE certified master technicians and as such have at least one on duty seven days a week. The techs and front end staff will help you evaluate what is wrong with your vehicle so you can prioritize the work you need done and then work with your schedule to get your work done. They have even gone so far in the past as to give me a short ride home when I needed to leave my vehicle for repairs. In short VIP is available seven days a week to take care of my car and ensure that I am going to continue to be safe and on the road. read more

My daughter had a scheduled oil change and the ford escape has been there many times before and the counter employee had a hard time finding the history, almost making her feel uncomfortable. she called me after the oil change was done and stated the counter people were more interested in where they were going to get their lunch from then getting her back on the road, as the vehicle waited outside, and the language at the counter was very offensive between the employees. She asked me if she could take the vehicle somewhere else from now on for the oil changes. I was not present and this is only one side of the story, but I have been disappointed often with this location. read more

things started out great in that i was able to call at 0800 and had a 1000 same day appointment for a seasonal tire change over and alignment. i decided to wait for the service as i have been through this same thing seasonally with vip for many years. it was 1230 before my vehicle was ready to go. this seemed extraordinarily long to me having been through this before, but ben at the counter seemed nice so i kindly was on my way. once i arrived home, 20 minutes away, i decided based on past experience to inspect the job. i really wish i had done this while in the parking lot. upon inspection, i discovered that my right rear tire was on with the inside wall on the outside of the rim, mounted backwards. this could have been a real hazard in the snow seeing i put snow tires on my car to make handling more predicatable in inclement weather. i am certain that the car would handle funny with a directional tire mounted in reverse. as i said before, this is from experience, becuase i ran an entire set of $950 tires mounted in reverse during the summer months. any guesses where the tires were mounted. vip gorham! this was a few years ago at this point so im sure the technician was not the same. there seems to be a trend that vip technicians are lacking knowledge or experience. possibly they are just too busy and that has led to mistakes. either way, the only real reason that i have returned to vip after the first incident is because i have a warrantee that is no longer offered there including free seasonal tire change over and alignements. that being said, the service i received there was free of charge. i did have my wifes jeep there two weeks prior to have winter tires mounted and balanced which cost us around $100. the fact that it was 2:30 pm by the time i got back home from the store to wait another hour for the tire to get put on correctly is rediculous. again, ben was very apologetic about this but in my opinion, there could be something that could be done given the fact that it was 4.5 hours out of my day for a seemingly simple job to have winter tires put on. im not certain that there is anything vip could do to keep my business at this point even though my seasonal service is free! my time is valuable and the fact that i have been put in potentially hazardous situations on more than one occasion by vip technicians is ascinine. fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me i suppose. i'll be interested to see if this review warrants a response from the company. read more
