I went there for the first time a week after they were able to open for business due to covid. I was nervous about going at first, but I ended up feeling super comfortable. Everyone was wearing a mask, they checked temperatures at the door, and maintain each customer 6 feet apart. They also clean each station after use. 5 stars for following CDC guidelines. Had a Brazilian Blow-out. The shop owner is a fraud. She charged me $707.00 to straighten WAVEY hair. My hair isn't even curly. They were kind of slow in business and she had about 4 (or more) different girls working on my hair in order for them to get a tip. What a fraud. She also couldn't give me a price for the service, saying she charged by the ounce of Keratin used in my hair. While she said it last 3-4 months, it only lasted 2 weeks. I should've just walked out and told her what she could do. Uh-hm. The girl that was originally working on my hair even got angry when she was told to let the other girls blow-dry, and straighten my hair. Skip this place if at all possible. I went to a neighborhood salon and walked out with magic marker black hair..ugh..then I went to another salon to have it corrected....they just added highlights to my one dimensional black hair. After being super annoyed by another salon in Howard beach I turned to Yelp to find a place to get my hair colored. Since moving to queens from Baldwin I've been in search of a good salon with no luck - until now. This salon is located within a sort of short shopping strip. The outside isn't very fancy but you'll be pleasantly surprised once you step inside. I walked in half expecting to be treated with the same rude manner every other place in Howard beach seems to treat people but it was the opposite. The customer service here is amazing. I was greeted by a super sweet woman, Josie, who immediately did a consultation with me. From the looks of it I presume she's the owner. I wanted to go lighter (I was already blonde but my roots were a mess, my hair was breaking, and I had a ton of weird things going on including a orange band in my hair from a previous salon nightmare) she told me that going lighter wasn't a good idea. She was very honest, told me that the best thing she could advise was to fix my roots, maybe tone down to get rid of the 100 color mistakes in my hair, and advised me to use a bond builder to strengthen before trying to go lighter. I took her advise and I'm glad I did. My hair was a terrible mess but I left with hair that looks so much healthier! Also, the bond builder that she gave me already made my hair feel so much better with just one use. I could tell while I was there that this isn't a one time deal with her. All of the customers in the salon were so happy - chit chatting and testifying that she does great work as they noticed I was a first timer...and her staff is very attentive. Also, the salon is very tidy and very clean! After hunting for a new salon and being severely disappointed by everything so far I'm so glad I came across VIP. Josie is a sweetheart and she did a wonderful job. I'll def be going back and I recommend everyone in the area pay her a visit! *PS there's a parking lot for the salon/shopping strip! read more

So, I was actually a customer at another salon in Howard Beach for a few years and then I had a horrible experience with my usual stylist. So I called up VIP Salon and spoke to Alexa just to see if I would be able to come in and talk to someone about what I wanted to do with my hair. It was around 6:15pm on a Thursday and they were getting ready to close up but she told me that they would wait for me to come in. I went in and met with her and she took one look at my hair and the picture of what I wanted and assured me she would be able to get it done. I booked my appointment for that Saturday at 8:30 (she also came in an hour earlier than usual for me because I had a party that I needed to get to.) I went in on Saturday and she was so nice and ready to go. She assured me that I was going to love my hair when she was done and she was soooooo right. My hair looked and felt amazing. I got so many compliments on my hair at the party and at work the following Monday. She is amazing at what she does. Changing hair salons is always a scary thing for me because it could be uncomfortable not knowing the stylists, but not at VIP Salon. They were all so welcoming and made you feel so at home there. Especially the owner, Josie. She is AMAZING!!!!! She made me feel like I had been going there for years. She said hello and introduced herself as soon as she walked in (she knew it was my first time there) and kept conversation going with me as well as with everyone else in the salon the entire time I was there. Let me start by saying that I found this wonderful salon on Yelp! And here I am writing my own review after VIP Salon exceeded my expectations today! I needed some "emergency hair repair" -- since, yesterday morning, my roots (and random other strands of hair) had been unintentionally turned pink, (by me!) when trying to do a quick cover up of my grays. I was looking for a place in the neighborhood that would be able to help me fix this mess, and quickly! First review I read was about how happy a customer was after VIP had been able to fix a bad color job done by some other salon and as I scrolled down and read wonderful things about Josie and her team (and the "magic" they performed) -- I decided it was the place for me! When I phoned to make the appointment, the person who answered was professional, friendly and courteous and I was all set within 24 hours. I was told my colorist would be Nicole (Nikki) and was quite happy about that, since she was referred to as a "color expert" in another review - and what I needed was expertise! I was welcomed at the salon and immediately felt at ease. Everything was explained to me nicely and I appreciated the "team approach" as Josie, who owns the place, conferred with Nikki and discussed the best solutions for me, before they even touched my hair. She took such care with each step and made me feel very comfortable. It was a long process but worth the time because I was absolutely thrilled with the results! So no more pink, no more grays, instead just one gorgeous shade of blonde. The blowout and styling was also exceptional. I have been to plenty of salons and have not been pleased with any until I came to VIP. Josie and the staff at VIP take their time, they are helpful, patient and most of all kind. I needed to get my haircut and wasn't sure what style I wanted. My hair was in terrible shape and I had to decide between 2 hairstyles. Either shoulder length or really really short. I read the reviews on Yelp and came across VIP Salon and Spa and saw that they had really GREAT reviews. I got up the courage and called the Salon and spoke with a young lady named Alexa and told her I needed to get my haircut and she told me if I could be there before 2:30pm she could do my hair that same day. I got there in less than 15 minutes ( I live close to the Salon) and was greeted by Alexa who took me right away. I explained to her my hair problem and showed her the 2 pics and she said the we should go with the shoulder length first because we can always go shorter if I didn't like the way it came out. I thought for sure she was going to go with the shorter one seeing that it's always been my experience that hairstylist always go scissor happy. As Alexa was washing my hair she told me that actually my hair isn't as bad as I had thought. On a scale of 1-10 ( 1 being good- 10 being the worst) it's a 6 which I think is pretty good because I thought it was a 10 ( being the worst). She told me that if I continue to condition my hair like I just started doing and getting trims every 6 weeks my hair will definitely improve dramatically. Anyway.... she cut my hair, blowdried and flat ironed it and styled it very nicely. She did a really good job. I loved it. My hair was so shiny not like the brillo, coarse, dried out hair that I walked in with. I told her how can I get my hair to look like this. She told me that I can use a flat iron and blowdryer as long as I use a good heat protector and a good flat iron. She explained why that was necessary and I made sure to make a mental note of everything that she told me. I thanked her , paid her, tipped her and made an appt for 6 weeks for a trim. Before I got home I stopped by CVS and bought a few things that I needed for my hair. After a few days, I didn't have high hopes of getting my hair even close to how Alexa styled it, I washed my hair, condtioned it, I used a heat protector and styled it the way Alexa showed me and my hair looked EXACTLY like it did in the Salon.I could not believe it. Its nice and shiny and so soft and looks really really healthy!!! I'm so so happy that I decided to get my haircut at VIP Salon because I would've never known how to get my hair to look as good as it did in the Salon. Thank you so much Alexa for educating me on my hair and schooling me on what I need to do to keep it looking healthy. I would defintely recommend VIP Salon to anyone looking for a great haircut. read more
