I have always gotten my wax done at this location. It is clean and Mary does a great job. Today, I called to make an appointment for my wax and was told that they don't take appointments for wax anymore and if I came right away it would be a 45 minute wait. I asked why they didn't take appointment for waxing and she said they only take appointments for other services. I know the owner is no longer at this location because he's working at a new location he just opened but this is not ok. You offer a service but I cannot make an appointment for it. Well? It's a very nice and relaxing salon with a bunch of tvs and the chairs are super comfy. They are very efficient. My 12 year old daughter and I came in ( made an appointment) I paid for an "upgrade" for both mani and pedi for both of us- we were done in less than half hour! just moved to the area and found this place. I absolutely love it! Vy does my pedicures and they last forever, roughly 3-4 weeks and they're not gel, they're regular! I also, love when a place does a really good job removing callouses for $5. They REALLY scrub my feet. Wonderful paint selection and they do a good job matching your toe color with your gel nails. I just moved to Covenant Hills from Laguna Niguel where I went to the same nail girls and nail spa for the past 4.5yrs. I don't want to continue to drive to Dana Point to have my nails done 2xs/month so my mom who also just moved to Ladera to be close to us suggested VIP after a lot of yelp research. I have to say as someone as picky and high maintenance about my nails as I am, I am very impressed! The spa itself is very clean, very nice and new, chairs are very comfortable, staff is friendly and everyone seems to speak English making communication a breeze. They also have all the very best and newest nail polish colors (OPI my favorite), Esse, etc. the best. I had Leanne do my nails and she did an amazing job, they look as good or better than my girl in Dana Point. I like the dip powder with gel overlay- they look gorgeous and perfect! I had Laura do my pedicure and she also did an amazing job, even got out my little ingrowns I get once in awhile with zero effort or pain. I have to say I would 1,000% recommend VIP and I will be a forever returning every 2-3 weeks client! Highly recommend! My mom who is picky about her nails loves them too. I'm updating this review from 4 stars to 5 stars based on my last two trips. I have to say, I'm soooo excited Paula is back. She's phenomenal, very detail oriented, a perfectionist. Her gel nails are very thin, carefully executed. She takes a lot of pride. (Not to mention I'm OCD about my nails, a tough customer). Paula has gone above and beyond to help me, and saved me the night before traveling to a wedding. (even when it was my fault, after closing with everyone gone). Overall in the past, even when Paula was not available, I've had great service (minus the long waits). The staff are friendly and attentive. This nail salon is beautiful and clean and I would recommend for some services. However I do not recommend getting dipping powder here. I have been coming here for six months, and only once or twice have I gotten a dipping powder mani that has not crumbled or broken within the first week. The technicians here seem to do them too thin, or they mess up the top coat so that the tips of my nails crumble and somehow the top coat peels? I have been unable to keep any sort of length in my nails because of all the issues. When they are first done as well, it's like they do not finish my nails off because they will snag on everything. I'm not sure why I have kept going for so long, but I have had my last dipping powder manicure here. It is frustrating because I obviously show up with horrendous looking nails for them to take off and do again. And I ask specifically about it, and they still can't seem to figure it out. read more

My first experience with them was good. The second visit made me not want to go back any more! I see a lot of people posted good reviews about Ms Paula. She is very sweet but she doesn't seem to know how to do design...I don't blame her as long as someone can help to finish the design part, but they don't seem to be friendly about helping each other there. When the girl finally came to help she had to give me a lecture and tell me she's just here to help, don't blame her for anything... Also, both my toes and fingers got injured, because they didn't use any product to soften my skin when they tried to take off the dead skin around nails. It hurt so bad and my toes and fingers are still red and hurting now which made me write this review! I sat there for 2 hours to get a super simple design done and got attitude from both the girl who came to help and the front desk. Not very impressed by the cleanness or anything else either...I didn't even bother to bring out the stamp card. Don't think I will go back. read more

So this was my second experience here. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I remember being unimpressed with my first mani/pedi (it chipped right away), and thought the service was meh. The place was clean, so I opted not to Yelp about my previous experience. I decided to come back tonight, thinking it was close to home, and my friend wanted to meet up for a pedicure. I should not have come back after my first mediocre experience, but you know what they say about hindsight, and all. My nail artist was nice, if not a little shy. My girlfriend, however, was unceremoniously kicked out of her chair as soon as the pedicure was finished, with an oh so polite, "Move!" from her artist (Helen, I think her name was). There was no one waiting, and the store was almost empty. Helen kicked her out of the chair, wiped it down, and grabbed her stuff to leave. Oddly enough, I saw her working on a manicure a while after we left....for those of you who are thinking "it's probably closing time, you spoiled b*tches." I was allowed to remain in my chair, making the situation even more awkward. I actually got up and left sooner than I wanted to because I felt bad for my friend. If you're using a card, they make you tip before you're finished, and my friend would not have tipped what she did, had she known she was going to be booted from her chair immediately. I'm typically a good tipper (you touch my gnarly feet, I give you $$$$$$$$), but did not appreciate being asked what amount I was going to tip in front of my nail artist, while she was working on my pedicure. I'm a nurse, and I have to smile and be kind through some really unpleasant situations. I expect the same of any service provider...massage therapist, nail artist, waiter....especially if they work for tips. I would never tell a patient, "Move." I actually just let out a laugh imagining myself saying "Move!" to one of my patients or a family member....OMG...I would be jobless so fast! There is a nail salon in Irvine that I just love called Oh My Nails. It's worth the drive. I wanted a quick pedi that was close to my home. I'll find another "back up" nail salon, and will try to hold out and make the trek to Oh My Nails the next time I need something done. read more

Both the manicurist and the pedicurist were terrible. I think they were new at it. They didn't even use the pumice stone on the bottom of my feet! They didn't let me sit down and raise the back of the seat upright before they were working on me! Big rush job. They cut my toenails so ugly short. The pedicurist actually grabbed a bottle of polish similar to the color that I brought and wanted to use it on my toes instead of waiting for the lady to finish painting my hands! Seriously, you can't wait 2 minutes, that you want to mismatch my polish and leave me without the ability to touch up with matching polish!? They didn't speak a lick of English. I am shocked that this nail salon has an overall rating of 4 stars because the only thing that impressed me, was the complimentary water. My favorite type of mani is a good old french manicure. I just moved to California and the nail experts here are not trained the same at all. The way a french manicure SHOULD be done is by painting on the white line with a thin white polish in one shot. These women paint the entire nail white, then take a brush with acetone and start wiping away the polish from behind. When I asked her why she was doing it this way and not the way I prefer it, she said "because it's easier this way". You are supposed to be a trained professional, you should be doing it right and doing it right the FIRST time. If the job is terrible, maybe doing it the easy way isn't the BEST way. A normal mani/pedi is 35$ but a french mani/pedi is 45$ (extra 5 bucks for your hands and an extra 5$ for your feet). Why exactly am I paying an extra $10 for a butchered french mani/pedi? The pedi was tolerable but my manicure was SO bad that I went home and removed it right away. She didn't even cut my cuticles or clean up the nails after she got white nail polish all over the sides on my skin. This salon needs to train their staff because at this rate, anyone could work there without any nail experience. read more

This was my first time here the other day and I have to say I was disappointed. I paid $45 for a gel pedicure which I find ridiculous since I didn't have her do anything on my feet except paint them. This is the most I have ever paid for a gel pedicure. She didn't do a good job and it was lumpy and she put way too many layers of polish on my toes. Stumbled upon this place per chance because I was visiting my boyfriend's mom who lives near by. We found this place on yelp and being from Irvine, I had no clue what to expect out here. I am usually picky about who and how someone does my gel manicures and I am very happy with the services I got here! Paula did my gel manicure! She is amazing! Very sweet woman who is detailed oriented and takes her time to make sure your nails are perfect! This is hard to find in Irvine because the majority of the nail salons in Irvine/ Newport treat you like a another "number" and rush to do your nails as if it's a factory shop. I got a OPI gel manicure and pedicure (deluxe package) and my boyfriend got a deluxe pedicure as well. They did a fantastic job and I will be definitely coming back when I am out here Ladera. Discovered VIP nails via Yelp after getting my nails completely butchered at another salon. It was Friday afternoon and they were clearly very busy, but Johnny took me immediately and got me all set up to soak my acrylic/gel off while I waited for someone to fix my nails. Mary came over shortly after and I showed her a photo of what I was looking for. I wanted an longer, almond shape which would require tips and acrylic. She was so attentive and made sure that she was shaping them exactly how I wanted. She was awesome. The end result was absolutely perfect and I'm soooo happy with the way they turned out.
