Recieved a gift certificate for this nail salon...used to go here when we first moved to Durango. Had an appt. sched with Paige..she was sick. Had this happen to me a few other times...and no one called to say she was out - which is why I stopped going there. Had someone else do my manicure/pedicure...worst job ever :-( Just didn't seem like he cared...and rushed thru the procedure. Disappointing...I was really looking forward to a nice relaxing time. At checkout - they forgot to "use" my gift certificate and charged me an extra $30 which I wouldn't have known about if I hadn't asked for my receipt... :-( No one in the shop was able to void the transaction and they were not very accommodating about straightening the issue out. I have been going here for over 10 years, I have never had a bad experience until today! I couldn't believe how long it took for a pedicure and a gel manicure. I had made the appointment to include an eyebrow wax and I didn't even get that done, because they were too busy. I am fed up with the wait in there for anything and my gel manicure was less than par. If you don't make an appointment with the "right" people like Paige or Quan, they you get a less than stellar pedicure or manicure. I live in Phoenix & I needed a set of natural acrylics. I called and made a 5:30pm appt, but I couldn't make it in time so I called and the lady changed it to 6:00pm with no problem. I got their around 6:10pm as to me having trouble driving in Durango because of the roads. They still welcomed me even though I was late. I showed her what type of natural looking nails I wanted and she said no problem. I waited for a good 10 minutes because she was finishing up on a client. Let me say, this place was packed! Very professional service though. I forgot the nail techs name but she was so gentle with my hands and nice! Very talkative and friendly. I love how she took her time doing my nail, checking to see if their even and shaped well. The $33 for my set was priced very well for the quality I got. 4 days later my nails are still looking great! Compared the some high rated "professional/best" nail salons here in Phoenix, they still nicked a small spot on one nail or my nails would feel "sore" the next day. No problem here! While she was shaping around my cuticles, she didn't nick me at all! My nails aren't bulky as well. My next visit to Durango, if I need a set I will definitely be going back. Tried them out based on a friends suggestion. Big Mistake. Worst Mani/Pedi ever! I had my nails done just a few short days ago and my polish is already chipping. Paid for a sugar scrub mani pedi service the guy they assigned to service me was more interested in getting me out of his chair than the task at hand. I totally get that they were fully booked for the day but come on! No hand massage, no cuticle treatment, no lotion, left with callouses in my feet and had to touch up my toes after he stepped on my foot while he polished my fingernails. There are better salons in Durango. Don't waste your time or money here. Back to the Spa Shop I go! read more

Tried this salon out since I am new in town. Very unimpressed. Had pedi and no chip nails done. Services were really rushed through. Came to remove gel and had to pay for it. Never heard of such thing. I was told that if I wanted to reapply it would be free. I would have come back, now I am not. They just lost a costumer! read more

I went here in May prior to my vacation in Mexico, my friend and I had a reservations. When we came in the nail salon was over booked and elbow to elbow. The gentleman who was assigned to do my pedicure and manicure was rough and cut my nails very short, he also rushed through. My friend had someone who spent a lot of time on her and did a great job. I on the other hand, was told no to my face when I asked for a flower on my toes. The gentleman straight up said he didn't have time to do it and refused to do it. I asked if there was someone else there who would do it and he told me no. It wasn't until after I left and called the owner to complain if she had me come back in to add a flower to my nails. They are always able to work an appt out, great pedis, every style for nails I request whether it be gel or acrylic always turns out beautiful. I really want to give this place one star so that it is not so busy but that wouldn't be fair. Just moved to Durango and I am happy I found a place that is comfortable to be in and they treat their customers great. I go to VIP nails regularly but on one last occasion I had SAM instead of my regular service provider, Tony. I had an awful experience with Sam. During the pedicure he charged $ 5 extra to get rid of calluses on my heels. When he was massaging my feet and calves he gave me looks that were horrendously inappropriate. The gel manicure was less than mediocre and chipped after a week. I mentioned his inappropriate behavior to the owner . She said​ he probably didn't mean any harm!!! Sam is definitely on the weird side. I feel his presence could be detrimental to VIP's business. VIP is extremely professional and very friendly and I will always use their services, but never Sam. read more

Went in w/out an appointment (they were busy, but accommodating) and had acrylic tips removed, mani with shellac, and pedi with color polish. The cost was $55, so reasonable. The removal was not at all painful, the man took great care to make sure I was comfortable. He did a great job on the shellac, and my pedi was also thorough and enjoyable (the massage chair worked a few knots out in my upper back, shoulder blade area). The facility was clean (several autoclaves), well kept, everyone communicated well, no harsh odors, and a nice selection of colors both in gel and regular. I made the mistake of not getting my technicians name, unfortunately, but feel confident that I would get good service from any of the technicians at VIP Nails. Highly recommend. UPDATE: Went in last week and had gel taken off and new gel applied. Was $40 and my nails were not filed correctly nor were they painted evenly. The sides of my nails were missing gel and my cuticles were painted on a few nails. Also I had to use the old UV light to dry ... not a biggie for one time, but at that price I should get LED lights to cure my polish. I didn't notice the poor job until I left unfortunately. I didn't want to make a fuss over the phone so took some pictures and emailed them through their website. I never heard back. I don't expect perfection but this was not worth $40. It's been less than a week and one nail has already cracked. I won't be going back. read more

They greeted me and showed concern for my situation. My nails looked gorgeous when I walked out of the salon. We were visiting from out of state for a wedding. I called for two girls' mani/pedi appointments and they got us in the same day. The girls were very impressed with their pampering. For $25 each they were treated to pedicure and manicure, complete with special designs. The staff was very friendly and even gave the girls a water bottle and bag of goldfish crackers! Yep, they're that good. Every manicure is perfect and the manicurists really know their stuff. I tend to break nails. VIP is great about mending them. They use very professional techniques and my gel mani's last 2-3 weeks. Of course, by then they've grown out and I get to choose a new color or stick with a favorite. I always try to get in with Ethan (one of the owners) because he is so meticulous and experienced. His wife Paige is great too. There is little doubt that VIP Nails is the best nail salon in town....so make an appointment and be on time, cause they get really busy, though they try to take as many walk-ins as they can. Horrible service. Rude staff. Questionable cleanliness. My sister made a reservation for for her bridal party of five people. VIP nails overbooked for the same time slot, and proceeded to take out their inability to manage a business on our group. In addition to hearing snide comments from the staff throughout our time there, the overall service was generally poor- worst manicure I'd had in a long time. Our group was all for working together to find a solution, but there was no interest in customer service. In fact, my sister, the bride, didn't even get her nails done. I made her an online appointment at the Woodhouse Day Spa. She was amazed at the quality and service. My advice would be to spend the extra money and treat yourself someplace else. read more

I came into this place on vacation because I needed to get my acrylics filled. About an hour before my appointment one of my acrylics lifted completely off and some of my others were starting to lift as well (they were done at a different nail salon where I live). The (owner or manager, I'm not sure which) fixed all my acrylics that were put on too thick (which caused the lifting) and did a fabulous job shaping my nails and filling them. They have honestly never looked so good and I've never had a better fill. If this place was where I live I would be a loyal customer unfortunately it's not. Excellent technicians for two first timers at this salon! However we r not newbies. We r in our 70's & traveling throughout this area. The cleanliness was noticeable but more important was the fresh air smell which can be a problem for a busy place and they were busy with walk-ins as well as appointments. Rest room was very clean. I've heard great reviews about this place, very disappointed. The staff was very unfriendly and tried to push me to get gel nails. I insisted on acrylics, and the staff seemed very irritated and unhappy. When I sat down, my first warning sign was the drill. I know that many experienced professionals file the nail down by hand, not with a drill. After drilling down a solid two layers of my nails and applying the tips, he began roughly filing the nails. I cannot tell you how much pain I was in. You should never experience this sort of feeling while getting your nails done.It's been four hours, and I still cannot type or touch anything with my fingers without experiencing immense pain. I would give them 3 stars just for their customer service. If you're looking for acrylics, skip this place and find a salon that treats your nails right. read more

Initially, I would have given this place a 5 STAR review because when I went in yesterday as a walk-in I was helped right away. Caroline (I think was her name) was very sweet and did an awesome job correcting an absolute mess that a salon down the street had created on my natural nails. She placed tips on 3 of my nails that had broken, however, when I got home, one popped off. I went in today to have it replaced and was treated like I was imposing on the guy helping me. He asked me 3 times if I wanted to keep the nail short and then asked if I wanted acrylic. I told him no I wanted a tip like the lady had done in the first place. He then turned around and asked her what she had done for me and at that time I remembered she used a gel sealer to put on the tips. I mentioned gel to him and he scolded me like a 2 yr old saying, "can you just let me talk to her, UGH"! I was embarrassed and FURIOUS that anyone would speak to another adult in that tone after not even listening to me in the first place. This was a first for me to leave a nail salon, of all places, in tears. read more

So I used to be a "regular" at VIP. Gel nails every 4 weeks. I've come to know and like Page and Ethan. Then, due to my job, I quit having my nails done. Fast forward to now, probably 2 years later. My daughter, another "regular", invites myself and my girlfriend (who is in from out of town) to join her for a pedicure. We arrive before our appointment time, were never greeted, but sign in anyway. Finally we are seated at the pedicure chairs. My daughter and I had someone taking care of us. My friend sat next to me, with her feet in lukewarm, at best, water waiting for 45 minutes. No one was a available nor did they speak to her or promise to start her pedicure. When we were done, the man who did my pedicure moved over and offered to start her. At this point, she asked him to remove the old polish and said she didn't want any more. He simply seemed mad that he wasn't going to get paid for another pedi. How sad that a truly wonderful operation has fallen to this level of non-caring and complete disregard for people being on their place of business. I won't be going back there again. read more

I came back in and gave this place a second chance because people rave about it so much and I am all about second chances. I honestly think the first time I got a back egg. I had Tony do my gel manicure the second time around and I will continue to go back to him every time I need my nails done. He was so friendly and helped in picking the best color for me.
