DONT SHOP HERE!!!!…read more Olha at the zona rosa vintage stock is a muy mal human being. In case she's not wearing her name tag, She's a short dumpy girl with glasses. She tried to convince me that a collectible was complete in box when it was visibly showing slots for parts that were empty. She told me those are for the parts on the figure and i took her at her word. I felt at-ease when she told me I had 30 days to return it for a full refund. I asked if I could return it to the entertainmart in Saint Joseph (also a joke of a business) because I live an hour north of here. She said yes! After some online research I see the figure is indeed missing parts. 6 in total. I called the Saint Joseph Entertainmart to make sure what Olha told me was correct. She verified and told me to bring them in. I was greeted by a guy that told me to head to register 1 for my refund. I went to register 1 and was next in line when the cashier just walked out of the store without saying anything to me. Not hold on, excuse me, NOTHING! Then after 10 minutes the guy walks in and says the district manager told him I cannot return the items because they are used. One was brand-new according to vintage stock and the other was used. They told me I could take them back to zona rosa and get my refund. How convenient! I'm at work so I ask my wife to take them back for me. The guy working the counter immediately said, "didn't the Sain't joseph store already tell you No on this return". My wife said, "actually the saint joseph store said to bring them back here." When asked by the male worker why Olha told me I could return these items she exclaimed, "I never said that!" They basically told my wife tough luck and have a nice day. To sum it up, Not only are the employees at these stores untrained. They are also liars with terrible customer service skills. They reserve the right to refuse a return, even if it's a legit return, as they see fit. The manager has the final say on a case by case basis according to their online website, which is full of grammatical and spelling errors which adds to the sketch of this business. Olha, learn what your store policy is, don't blurt stuff out of your mouth if it isn't true. While we're on the subject of truth, when asked if you said something that you definitely said, be an adult an own up to it. Don't lie a second time to avoid accountability

I was wondering around on a Saturday evening and found this local gem. What an incredible place…read more Enchanting. I immediately felt at home exploring the 3 floors. The books cover every subject. Some were probably harder to find. I happened upon a hardback about Eleanor Roosevelt and the years she spent alone after FDR's death. I also found a copy of an old magazine which explored all sorts of Tibetan culture. I purchased both. The book on Eleanor was found in the basement which is a bit of a labyrinth. I got tickled because I was entranced by the books so much that I nearly tripped several times on the very uneven floor. And it's painted all the same color so you can't see the weird level changes well but I was weirdly not even upset about it because it added some intrigue to the mystery of searching the shelves in the basement. Even on a nearly 100 degree day, it was chilly down there. Cool! Upstairs on the 3rd floor where it was toasty, I found the magazine. There were some cool lounge areas up there too. Record albums and a music section. I was mesmerized. I believe there were a couple of people putting out books but I'm not sure. I never asked anyone for help because I wasn't sure who worked there and I didn't really need any. The guy who checked me out seemed pleasant but I can't speak too much on the service except to say it was fine. I felt it was very acceptable to read through books even though they were for purchase and except on the crowded main floor, they had places for you to sit and read so it was even encouraged! I love that! The only thing I'd have liked that I did not see is a bit more merchandise that is book and reading related. They had a few Prospero Books tshirts and a tote bag but that was about it. I admit it wouldn't necessarily fit the vibe to have a section like this or maybe it could if done in a nonchalant way. The messages from customers written on the walls and shelves throughout the store along with photos were absolutely perfect! There were some photos that showed the basement before it became the magical place it is right now. Reading the messages and seeing the photos let me know I was in the realm of my people. All the books and magazines I saw were reasonably priced. I spent less than $15 on my large hardback and magazine. I didn't have nearly enough time to explore. I hope to go back!! You should definitely go and support a local bookstore treasure!!! I'm so thrilled they are here! We need more like them! And they carried ALL types of books. There is no censorship. As noted on Prospero Tshirts, "There are worse crimes than burning books. One of them is not reading them." - Joseph Brodsky And you'll find in my friend's book, The Sun Does Shine, they can strip you of everything but if you have an imagination, they can't take that. Books and reading develop that ability. Let the words transport you! READ!

They have a large sign explaining where you'll be able to find genres between the three floors. I was pleasantly surprised to see the prices were also reasonable! Of the books I looked at, the most expensive price was $15 for a fiction novel. I highly recommend you take a stop here if you're in the area!

My husband and I have shopped at Vintage Stock ever since we moved to Kansas City from Des Moines…read morein 2007, spending thousands of dollars in the process. While generally pricer than Wal-Mart on newer items, if you're into obscure, older movies, music, toys or video games, Vintage Stock is your mecca. If they don't have it, or are not able to find it for you, then it simply doesn't exist. They staff several very knowledgeable employees. My husband is very big into vintage toys and, especially, video games. He also dabbles in sports cards. One employee, who unfortunately no longer works at the store, was very helpful with assisting my husband on determining the value of his card collection and provided many tips on how to preserve and store his collection. My recently made it his mission to obtain complete collections of two toy sets from his childhood: He-Man and Transformers. The guy in charge of their toy section, a fellow collector of Transformers, has managed to help us nearly complete our collection of first generation Transformers, even going as far as returning an item that he had purchased, so I could purchase it for my husband for his birthday. Their "video game sage" as he was called by the GameStop employee who recommended him to us, has become my husbands right-hand man when it comes to technical video game questions, and may be the only person he calls more than me, ha. He has also proved invaluable to my husband and I in our quest to collect every game on the Atari and 8-bit Nintendo. We are now the owner of several games, old and new, that we though we'd never have the wherewithal to track down and acquire. If we're looking for a game that he doesn't have available to him within their company, he's never hesitated to recommend another nearby store or website that may possibly have it, in some instances even going as far as naming the employee whom we should speak with. The reason I'm giving this store an average rating is due to a combination of factors. First the store is located in a very crime-ridden area. It's not uncommon to see Policeman during your visit, due to rampant property and automobile theft that plagues the area. As you browse the store, expect to see several empty packages from items that were haphazardly torn open and raided of their contents. Also notable is the amount of beggars and homeless that converge on the shopping center, especially during the holiday season. As well, a few of their employees leave quite a bit to be desired. I last visited this particular Vintage Stock location during their Super Hero Day. While there, I witnessed one employee, a lady whom I believe is the manager, loudly mock a black employee in Ebonic slang while in the presence of other employees and several customers. In closing, I do recommend Vintage Stock. There are certainly treasures to be found and wonderful, knowledgeable people to encounter, but be forewarned of the possibility that you, or your children, may be exposed to some undesirable people and situations along the way.

Having grown up in Lawrence when you had Kief's and…read moredoing record hunting the first time around I found it rather soul soothing to go into a place again and thumb through a thousand records again. Some are new, some are used. Place is packed with records from one end to the other and you have to navigate in/around the people there which is how it was done in the old days. I remember finding 'The Information Society' in downtown Lawrence as a teen, was funny to me in that I was picking up They Might Be Giants first release, and the Big Science release from Laurie Anderson. Things I did in the late 1980s once before. I hate feeling like some old person saying 'back in my day' but there is a sense of contentment to flip through a huge selection of sounds, seeing things and deciding if based just on the cover if it's worth spending your hard earned money on. Something playing over head selected by someone who works there, finding something new, it was a shared experience that I think we miss now with everything algorithmic and solo. The only downside being that it's hard to balance a solid selection in a physical location, I'm sure compared to 'online' but there's nothing quite like flipping through records and finding something you were looking for. Solid pricing for a retail location in downtown, you're not going to buy 11 records for a penny like Columbia house but you won't be disappointed with the selection and the hunt.
