So frustrating! I splurged and purchased this Moroccan coin belt that I've been admiring for ages. I finally bought it for around $90 dollars as a key piece to my wardrobe that I was hoping to last for at least some years to come since it was made from leather. After wearing it about a half a dozen times one of the coins fell off. This is so disappointing. Skip it. Way over priced. I can't see how this place survives... except maybe for its location (in a town without options + a university= students will buy whatever they can to keep it looking cool) As a vintage/thrift store/recycled fashion nut who will spend her mad money on anything old, kitchy and borderline glam (whether its in my size or to pass along to someone else)... this place is a total "Nah". I've been in 4 times (to give it a fair shake). Small costume store with a good selection (for it's size) of vintage clothes/costumes. A good mix of old and new. A bit pricey, but I believe they are the only game in town. Not so great on the customer service, but I was in there when busy and only one person was working. Still, a smile or even a nod would have been nice. Instead, I felt like every move I made was watched. Weird. If you're there, go around the corner and check out the Lotus Cafe. Great shop, friendly service. Bummed because I consigned two items, yet paperwork stated that I only consigned and sold one. So they had an extra item of mine that they probably sold, but it was never listed, thus I never received credit. Will continue to visit, but I've been sticking to Willow for consignment. read more

definitely cool stuff. Not all of it is second-hand or vintage. I dont think it is over priced though, you can tell that the owners spent a lot of time searching local thrift stores to find the best stuff to sell at their store. I have only bought the new stuff from them however. And I don't particularly like the staff/owner. They are usually gossiping to each other or on the cell phone when I enter and don't acknowledge my presence. I find that quite rude, especially because it is such a small space. But I will continue to shop there because I can always find a cute shirt. or shoes. read more

Pretty cool little store. Found a last minute Halloween costume after trying all of the main stream stores and having no luck. I have also taken a lot of my designer jeans that no longer fit or that I don't like anymore here. I feel they gave me a decent price (about 50% of what I expect they would sell it for) without having to put it on consignment. They just gave me cash up front and it was a done deal. They have a lot of cool stuff...I just wish it was a little bigger! read more

Although this used to be an interesting consignment store, it has turned into a costume store with some other new high priced items, and i mean pricey. Their prices for costumes are high so if you plan to get your costume items here be prepared for the bill to be shocking if you buy more than one item. They no longer have a variety of vintage items and really should be costume avenger, not vintage avenger. Also, their customer service leaves a bit to be desired. Alicia who I spoke with was rude. Finally to those who think this is the only game in town, I guess that may be true for Acrata, but for costumes, the Costume Box in Eureka is outstanding and the staff there are friendly and helpful. You can even rent their costumes. And there are lots of vintage clothing stores in both Eureka and Arcata that beat this store in price and selection, just look in the phone book or go online. read more

And here I was thinking most people in town liked this store. The worst thing about it is the high prices, not exactly in the average college student's budget. However, at least for the new costume stuff, Vintage Avenger's price is (usually) equal to the price of the same item bought online at a cheaper price plus the shipping. Add that in the store you can try things on, and it's not such a bad deal. I've had mixed results with getting help from the woman behind the counter, but really this is the only store like it in town, not to mention the north coast. I guess they don't have used shoes anymore, which is a little odd. They do carry some new shoes like from Frye brand, which I like but can't afford on my student budget . I was all excited because I thought a new shoe store had opened (there's a new 'Shoe Shangri-La" sign outside the building) but I guess it's just part of Vintage Avenger. read more

I like this store for costume shopping but they have a NO RETURN POLICY. So when you buy an expensive costume for an after party that gets cancelled and you dont end up wearing or needing the costume...you eat the money. Like I did for 75 bux :) read more
