After having a great meal last night local suggested we try Die Weiss and he was bang on. Great…read morefood, and plenty of it. The schnitzel was almost perfect, the chicken was well cooked, and we had a great salad as well. The bottle of local wine was also excellent. Our server was fast and efficient if a little thin on interaction. He was also very busy, so that's likely a part of it. The interior is nice, although we only saw a bit of it. The beer is brewed onsite, I'd love to see that, but alas, no. Five stars is what it deserved as everything was really really good!

We ordered a couple of appetizers to share. One that stood out was their trio dip and I particularly liked the pork belly crackling dip that was served with sourdough bread. It definitely is not the most healthy as it was greasy, but super flavorful with great texture from the cracklings. Another one I enjoyed was their Regensburger Wurstsalat. The sausages were thinly sliced paired with a crispy, tangy vinaigrette which was refreshing especially in a hot summer day. The scallions and red onions added another level of flavor and texture. For main, I ordered their braised pork belly and was pleasantly surprised. Th meat was tender, skin was still crispy and the sauce was hearty yet not too salty. My kids tried their schnitzel and they enjoyed it. However, my husband ordered one of their beef dish and I was told it was dry and salty. I honestly would recommended to just stick with pork when in Germany/Austria and stay away from beef because ever beef dishes we've tried were not good. Overall, this is your typical Biergarten with plenty of outdoor seating and tv's available to watch any sports. Our servers were all very friendly and relatively quick Austrian standard. The only thing is some tv's streamed ahead of others so the people who's watching the slower tv were a little upset as they would've heard the reaction of others before they can see the actions.

We ordered the #2 Bosna, served with onion, parsley, and mustard on a perfectly toasted bun, and WOW--this was absolutely mind-blowing. Juicy, flavorful, beautifully seasoned, and ridiculously delicious. The combination of the sausage, mustard, onion, and parsley just works. Seriously crave-worthy! Service is quick and efficient. It's a small takeout window, and even when there's a line, it moves pretty quickly. Cash only, so come prepared. There's no real dining room--you order at the counter and stand around to eat, which honestly is part of the charm. And the setup makes it very easy to order another one once you realize how good it is! This is exactly the kind of unassuming cash only street food spot I love finding while traveling. I already know I'm going to be craving this Bosna once I'm back home in Seattle.

The restaurant was located in a passageway between two buildings off the main shopping street Getreidgassee in the Alstadt. This was a perfect rest stop since it was a little cooler and of course shaded. It was even better without any line since we came in the middle of the afternoon for a light snack. The basic Bosna was served with 2 pork sausages in a long, toasted bun with their unique curry spice, parsley, and raw onions. The other options added mustard or ketchup or omitted the parsley and onion. While the basic Bosna was quite delicious (nice snap to the sausage, moist and flavorful), the mustard version really added more moisture and tang that my SO and I agreed was the best choice. Cash is preferred though credit cards were accepted. A definite must try dish when visiting Salzburg.

We were sat at the opposite end of the table from another couple in a little room. The servers were plenty friendly and spoke good English to assist us. My husband got a burger and I ordered the Mac and cheese and a salad and we shared. It was a lot of food! We also ordered the pancake shredded dessert which came with a jelly type of sauce. Everything was good but it was sooo heavy. I certainly recommend sharing so that you have enough room in your stomach. We would return next time we were in Salzburg.

The goulash was amazingly flavorful, rich and hearty, and the potato dumplings were the perfect accompaniment. We also tried the deep-fried chicken with potato salad. The chicken was juicy and nicely fried, and while it wasn't anything mind-blowing, it was definitely good. The potato salad was also really nice and paired well with the chicken. We made a reservation even though it was a Sunday night, and I'm glad we did. The place had a great mix of locals and tourists, and seeing quite a few locals dining there was definitely reassuring. The atmosphere has that classic traditional Gasthaus vibe--casual, lively, and focused on good food. If you're looking for traditional Austrian food in a relaxed Gasthaus setting, Bärenwirt is definitely worth a visit.
