I needed a haircut before work and was going to go to a place closer to my house but time wouldn't permit thankfully a friend had recommended Vinings Barber to me last week and how great his experience was so I decided to see if they could give me a quick haircut before work which is nearby. The second I walked in Paula and the rest of staff were friendly and helpful. Paula had me out in no time and with the spray the she put in my hair -that smells so good- I didn't even need to wear my hat to work = D I also like all the pictures they have up on the inside, it feels like a great place to share stories with a friendly staff and get a great haircut. read more

Figured it was time to update the ole review as soooooo much has changed here! For one, new ownership has taken hold of the place, so now it just goes by Vinings Barber. Same location, different name and totally different vibe. The new owner, Amanda came in hot and gave the barbershop a full reno and update. What was once a dated, 90's sports themed place for men to get their haircut has been transformed into a stylish and updated barbershop for men. So, all the old school posters, bright paint and plastic bins have been replaced with wood boards, earth tones and metal tool boxes. Most of the staff stayed through the transition, especially my girl Diane! I have been coming her way for over a year now and could not be happier. Diane is personable, kind, funny and talented. As I mentioned in my first review, Vinings Barber is a place I looked for throughout the years, so I am happy it just keeps getting better, because I will keep coming back! My only gripe is the last few times I came in, the music was a little too "slow jazzy" for me, plus the TV was off. I do enjoy catching whatever game is on as I get my fresh cut...just saying! read more

Had gone in a few months ago, forget who I saw. Was an okay experience, cut wasn't exactly what I'd expected and the way it was styled after wasn't anything like what I'd walked in with (usually use product and wear lije a crew cut, he'd gelled it and gave me the pointy front look). Went back and saw Amanda the other day - AWESOME cut. Told her skin fade, flashed a picture of how short I wanted to go on top. Was a little nervous by how quick she glanced and said "okay" before going to work, but she nailed it. I'd watched her cutting a guy when I was in the first time and said if I went back I'd give her a shot and I was not disappointed. 4 stars only because the shop is a little small, odd little corner location and feels a little cramped (low ceilings) and not a lot of natural light. 5 stars because their 4.5 star rating at this moment is not reflective of the service they provide while I'm there. Amanda (Owner), Veronica, and Kenneth have been the most consistent barbers I've seen at the shop. I've been visiting almost monthly now for since February of '22. Never left there dissatisfied with my haircut and cuts generally take 20-30min so they usually run on time if you made an appointment. Can't be the price of the cut. I value consistency and that's the experience I get when I visit VB. read more

I brought my fourteen year old son in for a trim up for his afro. Paula was our barber. I was not happy with the result. She stated that his hair was extremely dry, and proceeded to put three different products in his hair. It left his hair with a white residue and very sticky. She did not use the clippers to shape his afro. His hairline was trimmed unevenly, and I had to tell her to correct it. My son was in her chair for nearly an hour. I could've done a better job at home. When we arrived home we noticed that there were straight gray-silver hairs in my son's afro. The hairs came from a customer whom we watched as she cut his hair before cutting my son's hair. This had indicated that she did not clean her tools in between customers. I was extremely disappointed with this service. If I could give less than one star I would. read more

One gift to myself coming out of the pandemic was a beard with personality that regularly needs to be tamed by someone who's not me futzing in front of a mirror and doing a terrible job. I made an appointment with Jake and arrived on time at 1pm and he was mid haircut with someone else. He said oh you're going to be with Sharon. Well I didn't make an appointment with Sharon. Sharon was with someone else as well, so ended up walking out at 1:15pm because what is the point of an appointment if you can't be on time or with the person you scheduled? Very unprofessional shop. You know when you walk in a place and you can just tell they are good at what they do. This is that place. Easy to find, and super clean and nice decor. Amanda has owned the place a few years, and I had her cut my hair. Super professional but nice conversation too. I came in asking if they cut ladies' hair. The lady named Takia asked what I wanted. I said just a trim to even out my hair. I waited about 10 minutes as she was with another client then she told me to sit and just started cutting. Not once did she put a comb in my hair, she didn't even spray my hair down to help even it out. I'm very disappointed and would like a refund. Do not come here. read more

I've been coming to this place for a while since it's close to my house. I like it. Val is actually a woman, not that should matter. And you can get your haircut from the main person Val when you book an appointment. I never did. I'm sure she's very good. I mean, the Barbershop is named after her. The place looks like a typical men's Barber. You see lots of sports and manly movie memorabilia all around to cater to our masculine tastes. You can call or use the Web to make your appointment. I don't think they take walk ins--just make the appointment. I have called and tried to book on the day or the next. They usually have a space, maybe not with the barber of the choice, but if you need a haircut, they should have someone open on that day. Parking is tricky. There are plenty of spaces, but West Village is a busy place with popular restaurants all over. I think I'm lucky since I'm always able to find parking nearby. I think the quality of the haircuts will be based on who your barber is. Like I mentioned, my barber, John is pretty good. I would recommend him, but I don't want you to take up all his slots. ;) So ask for Val instead. I don't think they cut women's hair. But there is a salon nearby for you girls. read more

Place went downhill hard... I know a change in ownership will do that , but they went from fun, relaxed place with a sports feel.... to a no tv, "pallet wood" silent domain. I went in today and with no warning 2 of the common folk we all come in for are gone? Without warning or heads up - it was akward, it's a sad place to go... a lot of work to be done. Got booked in for a beard trim. She put me on the chair, 5 minutes with an electric razor. I could basically do it my self at home. I could actually do it 100!times better myself. She left beard everywhere and the biggest irritation on my neck. When I told her what is this? She told me" this is a beard trim" Are you serious?? I told her what about my line, my chin and all the rest a barber should do? She told me that is a different service l. What????? Then I asked her so can someone do it? I rather pay more then walk out like this. She replied saying " It's too late. I am closing at 4" . They actually close at 5pm and there was still people inside. Absolutely horrible horrible experience and horrible customer service. It is not about the 10 dollars I have wasted. It is about the work ethic. Not a haircut, but an experience. I have been a great clips regular for 20+ years, so I was hesitant to branch out. The barbers in this establishment were very welcoming and hospitable. I got my hair cut by Kenneth who is one of those people with magnetic positive energy. With few instructions, he cut my hair with precision and skill. The cut was finished with a warm towel over the head which was very calming. I was not expecting that. The other barbers were very kind, and you could tell that they have good chemistry. I really enjoyed my trim here. Vincent took care of me and got me looking great again. It costs a bit more than your generic great clips/Supercuts but well worth it. From the hot towel treatment, to the warm shave on the neckline, everything is just better. I really felt the great barbershop feel that people expect.
