STAY AWAY FROM VINEYARD LANDSCAPING please see photos attached to this review to view the work provided by Vineyard Landcaping! Please be cautious if you engage Vineyard Landscaping. Don't be fooled by Owner Keith Doherty's clean cut look, polite demeanor, and willingness to please. He will promise you and will not deliver. I was ripped off. I hired Keith to clean up my overgrown backyard in the fall of 2015. He did fine, it was just cleaning out leaves and heavy brush. In March of 2016, I reached out to Keith to install walkway pavers, fix my concrete stair, stall vinyl fence, install stone, pull a tree loam, regrade my backyard, and hydro seed my backyard, all which were in his wheelhouse and advertised on his web site. First, he started in March/April. He was eager to start and please and like many contractors just moved onto the next thing. The loam came from another job site and it turns out was all weeds and small stones. By June of 2016 my backyard was all crabgrass, dandelions and weeds. No grass. His hydro seeding was a waste of money for me.
A few points about the job/project he didn't finish:
1. He installed pavers before installing the vinyl fence so he has to pull pavers to install the fence posts. He never bothered to cut the pavers to size to finish of the work after installing the posts. He also did not leave any extra pavers for me even though I paid for them. He took them all with him when he left so now, I need to hunt down the paver brand and size and bring someone else in to finish the job. I asked several times for the extras. He did not comply.
2. When he installed the Vinyl fence railing he admitted he installed it wrong. He promised to replace it and didn't. He also didn't use coated or stainless steel screws so rust stains are all around my white vinyl after about a month.
3. The reason why I wanted a fence was to keep in my dog and I needed no holes or gaps. Keith and Crew left wide gaps where my 40lb dog could escape. He promised to fix them and didn't. I ended up spending my own money to add lattice work to put in between the gaps. It looks like crap but I needed a practical fix on my tight budget.
4. He installed the fence gate wrong. I needed to ask my 78 year old Dad to fix it and my Dad did it right!
5. Keith promised to "patch" hydro seed after the initial seed sprouted and filled in. After many texts, he never came. I ended up spending about 75.00 buying addition seed to patch as best I could. I will need to re-seed the entire lawn in 2017.
Keith doesn't answer the phone he only texts. He always responds about how busy he is and I fell for it. I followed Vineyard Landscaping on Instagram as Keith requested and he was always vacationing in Florida, Cape Cod, etc....He kept saying he was busy expanding which he should NOT do since he couldn't even finish a job with 4 employees. I trusted this guy and he swindled me. I knew he was busy so I gave him a long rope to hang himself with. The top notch contractor who referred me to Keith (they went to High School with him) also got on his case and Keith promised me and the contractor he'd finish the job and still didn't. So Keith doesn't have respect of those who referred business to him either. A strong sign that he doesn't respect relationship with his peers or clients, or have pride in his work.
In the summer I sent a letter requesting visiting a mediator through the Attorney General's Office but I ended up not following through due to an illness and family commitments. I just gave up since he was such a head ache to pursue legal action. Honestly, I wasn't mad, I just wanted job complete. I realize he needs to go where the big bucks were but he could have spared a few hours to finish my work. His unwillingness to do so shows how little integrity, work ethic, and pride he has as the owner of Vineyard Landscaping. Vineyard Landscaping doesn't care. I reminded him with pictures texts, and calls of what needed to be complete. Why am I writing this review now? Because I finally have time to document his wrong doings and I feel compelled to warn others of his incompetence before the 2017 busy season. Also, I am looking at my backyard which is dead weeds and now mud! I have a lot of work to do in the spring of 2017. I am a single professional woman and he took advantage of my good nature and being naive about contractors. Shame on me.
As a side note, my neighbor also had issues with him. He billed her incorrectly (then threatened legal action) for work and he did a terrible job fixing her concrete stairs. I also have talked to two other people who have issues with him as well.
My advice to anyone considering engaging with him, not to. You will regret it. The average social media review lasts 7 years so hopefully this review will warn others for years to come of Vineyard Landscaping's horrible work ethic and apathy towards customers.
Sincerely,
