The jewelry selection here isn't wildly exciting to me, but the staff is polite and very helpful,…read morethe space is actually WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE (rare for this island), and the prices are reasonable. There aren't a lot of fine jewelry stores on Martha's Vineyard in general, and certainly not very many that are open year-round at all, so automatically the very existence of this store holds value. I wear a large ring size, so the store offered to have one custom-made for my finger, rather than sizing an existing one that they had at the store, which might've destroyed the integrity of the setting...I'm used to this! It was ready when they said it would be ready (about 6 weeks, which is typical most places in the US, in my experience), and I am very happy with the ring! I wish they had more estate and vintage pieces, but I think they cater to more mainstream tastes than my own. If you're looking for an island pendant or charm in gold or silver, a wedding band or solitaire engagement ring, or other small-scale fine jewelry, this is probably a good place to stop by if you're in Vineyard Haven!

BUT once you get the attention of one of the people they are kind and helpful. I bought a MV Island ring a couple years ago and I went last year to the one in Vineyard haven to ask if they could shine the ring. They happily obliged without cost. This year I went to the edgartown location and not only did the manager shine my ring from them but my class ring AND my Alex and ani Harry Potter ring. I was so grateful. He just told me to give me all my rings when really I only asked for the ring I purchased from them. I'm really happy I bought my ring from them.

She wanted a cartilage piercing and I was going to change jewelry in 8 piercings I have. I was going to get all solid gold so I was planning on spending at least, and most likely over $1000. The woman in the front was very kind and descriptive explaining the jewelry types to my sister and I but when she went to ask the piercer a question he was rude to her and basically brushed her off asking why she would need to ask another question. He then came out and was rude to me answering the question. He literally went on a rant about how my nose piercing couldn't accommodate a hoop. I've had a hoop before, but I understood where he was coming from as my nostril is pierced very high. For some reason, even though I said right away I'd be fine without ones he went on and on in a rushing and rude way about why it wouldn't work and then rushed back to the back room. I didn't get his name unfortunately. My sister and I ended up leaving because she didn't want that man piercing her and I didn't want to give so much money to and a large tip to someone so rude and dismissive of his customers and coworkers. Thanks again to the woman in the front for having such great customer service, but I will never return to this shop.

I very seldom post negative reviews but sometimes they are just really warranted…read more I must confess the experience I had at Jewel in the Sea in the summer of '24 soured me on this store. In fact, so bad was my experience it still bothers us more than a year later and I opted to Yelp about it. Prior to '24 I've bought sterling Nantucket basket bracelets for all my daughters and bride, without any incident at this store. Summer of '24: Milling about Town, we went into the Jewel in the Sea. Working the store counter was a young African American woman who was pre-occupied with her laptop. There was no one else in the store, just my bride and me. Walking through the store, I spy a knock-off, Swatch-esque, wristwatch. I collect wristwatches, so I asked her how much this one was. She proceeded to bark at me that she was busy and told me to wait. So much for that gracious Nantucket customer service; the poor little princess from Manhattan College. Now, I never talk down to people like she did to me, and there was really no reason for her to do so; it was a gesture of power and control. After waiting about eight minutes, I picked up the watch to read the price tag. She then started to yell at me, implying that I was trying to steal it. Please note, the wristwatch was not locked up or under glass. Maybe this store is great, maybe their merchandise is nice, and the prices are reasonable. However, the help they employed in '24, at least the day we visited, was downright exceptionally rude. I was even more surprised to read that Nantucket Today rated this store as 'the best' on the island! IMHO, Nantucket Today's judgement is lacking. Plenty of other jewelry stores on the island and in Town.

I recently purchases two necklaces and three pairs of earrings from Sioux Eagle, and I LOVE them!!…read more The jewelry is beautiful, well-made, and unique. And Sioux Eagle herself was very accommodating, considering that her showroom is NOT WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE...but she was happy to have me pull my vehicle right up to the front of the building on her lawn, and to bring items out to me. It was easy to make an appointment with her to view items, and her showroom was actually quite easy to find, given that it's located in a residential area on one of the back roads of West Tisbury (no longer on Main Street in Vineyard Haven, sadly). In the case of one necklace and earring set I purchased, they were made custom for me: I had admired one of the necklaces she had on display, but I prefer yellow gold to silver around my neck...so she remade the necklace with yellow-gold-filled chain, as per my request! She worked quickly, and on impulse, made matching earrings, which she presented to me as well...of course I bought them, too! Sioux Eagle's jewelry isn't cheap in price, but it's also not cheap in quality, and it's handmade by her with high-calibre stones and findings. If you're looking for a gift for yourself or a loved one who loves unique, feminine jewelry, this is a great place to shop!

O this visit, we went in just to browse with little intent to buy. But we found a perfect memento of this trip, something we actually needed, a new wall clock for my husband's study. It has a topographic map of Woods Hole as the background clock face and has a frame of copper. It was not terribly expensive but is a novelty for our home and seems to be working well. The staff was incredibly informative about current goods from an artist we have bought in the past. There was some very pretty natural themed jewelry that in the past I probably would have purchased but probably do not have a real need now.
