A combination of old wood, dog, a recent fire and lots of leather. Perhaps an unusual and unexpected olfactory juxtaposition but a surprising pleasant one. Almost intoxicating. The sign outside has a picture of a leather punch on it and leaves no doubts or ambiguity about the main purpose of this store. Lots of leather items and tools scattered around and the people here deal with leather with confidence and skill. They can whip you up a belt, jacket or just about anything else in leather with ridiculous ease, skill and speed. Besides the leather goods the store also has a menagerie of other fascinating things. Exquisite glass pieces and unique and distinctive Xmas ornaments or beautiful lamps grace the ceiling and walls. Clocks, time pieces, strange dolls and even some scrimshaw add to the evocative and visual stimulation. A great place to visit on a cold Nantucket day. When Victor told his sandals where at a whole different level of comfort than any other sandal I'd worn, I thought there was a bit of salesmanship going on. I usually don't write reviews, but I feel one is warranted. Vanson makes the best leather jackets for the money, no contest. New jackets from others in the $300-500 price range are not worth the money, quality of leather, stitching, and fit / design is subpar. These guys make jackets meant to last a lifetime, and survive motorcycle crashes, and they've been doing it since 1974. They also just fit better. Be patient on items not in stock, and you will be glad you did. There's nothing else out there like it. They have several in stock of thick leather but I felt I wanted a softer one so I ordered one custom made for me. Everyone at Vansons rallied around and between the seamstress who took my measurements to my salesperson Jeanne, the experience couldn't have been better. Their attention to detail was meticulous. They were so friendly and such a pleasure to deal with. There was a delay in the production of my jacket but it was because of the Clovid thing and no fault of Vansons. Well, I picked up my jacket last Thursday (just in time for the 4th of July). The jacket came out perfect. Every little detail was in place. The most Important thing to me was the fit. It fit me like a glove. Every measurement was accounted for and in place to make my "one of a kind" jacket incredibly comfortable and well tailored. I can just feel the quality while wearing it and I'm sure this is the kind of jacket that will last a long, long time. Thank you Kim and all the great people of Vanson Leathers. In the past I have purchased all my Longchamps at Nordstrom only because I live right by the Natick mall, and I never really thought twice about it. I was on Loncahamp's website looking at the bag and clicked on "locate a store near you" Nordstrom came up so I called up and asked if they had the bag in stock. Turns out they didn't carry the bag. I then thought to myself.. I could buy it online...but then I might not like it. For such an expensive purchase I wanted to make sure I loved it. The other store that was listed was London Harness Company. I hadn't heard of them before, but I am very familiar with Wellesley Center so I thought I'd call them up. I called up and gave them the SKU from Longchamp and the man was very helpful in telling me that they did indeed carry my so desired bag. About 20 mins later I drove over and met the man I spoke with on the phone. The store was quiet and he showed me the bag. I tired on many colors and then decided on one. For such an expensive bag I feel I made the purchase the right way and am happy I supported a local store rather than a chain like Nordstrom.

Unfortunately the sale was only for the rack outside of the store and the rest of the merchandise throughout the store did not seem to be priced any different than retail. I will say the collection of bags they have is much wider than a lot of other boutiques I have been to. There are some familiar brand names stocked as well as some unique other brands. The staff is helpful and friendly. I ended up walking out with the large le pliage by Longchamp because they had a color stocked that I was having an extremely hard time finding. So as I said before, their range of collections is bigger than what you'd expect. I give 4/5 stars because the store was a little dim and wouldn't have really grabbed my attention if it weren't for the "sale" sign. Additionally, it seems more like a store one would go to when they have a specific item in mind; it's not a store with a huge selection of select pieces from numerous collections. It's more like a store with a few brands but stocks the whole collection.
