Jerks. These guys try to trap unsuspecting tourists into paying a two dollar a gallon premium on their gas. The clerk at the front desk was quite expecting my appalled attitude as I stormed in and asked her if she was seriously charging $5.79 per gallon of gas. She confirmed that she was. And to my incredulous, "How the hell do you think that's OK??!?" She simply responded, "It's a private business..." I was smart enough to look before I pumped, but i know others aren't. Totally not her first time. I made a point to tell someone who had just pulled up that the gas was horribly overpriced. I'm not from around here, but Orlando people, I read an article about your mayor trying to pass some sort of legislation about this. I recognize that price gouging, in its legal sense, requires an emergency to be present, but this is still something that should be reviewed by your city's elders. We had done everything we planned to do and Mickey even blew my daughter a kiss goodbye on the way out! Anyhow, we were driving back to our hotel, the Marriott right across the street from this station, and I realized that our tank was almost empty. I dropped off my family at the hotel and went back to fill up my tank, since the car was due back the next morning. And let me just say this: WOW! What a great value! SHAME ON YOU! I was ripped off by this Shell station. They charged 6.99 for a gallon of gas. I did not catch it because the price is not posted anywhere on the pump, just a sign on the ground by the road. I had been paying attention to prices in the area all week and they were all appropriately in the $2.50 range so I mistakenly didn't look when I pulled in. I take responsibility for my error but you should be ashamed of yourselves for charging this price knowing you are in a tourist area where people have other things on their mind like driving an unfamiliar car on unfamiliar roads. Obviously you know exactly what you are doing and don't care since it's been going on for years. We pulled up to this location after googling it on google maps. Shell brand gasoline is our favorite and we try to be loyal to the brand. As I pulled up, I thought my eyes were failing me when I saw $5.49 per gallon for gas. Currently, gas is averaging $2.49 where we are staying. I figured it must be some mistake as I slowly pulled up to the pump....it must be! However, my eyes were not failing me and the sign posted was correct. This location was charging $3 more than any other gas station we passed. I was a bit upset because I would now have to betray my brand but we had a rental so I quickly found the next gas station. I was perplexed, to say the least! I couldn't understand why this station was charging so much. After a brief read of a few reviews, I discovered someone who says that the owners were upset that they had to have a gas component to their convenience store. I get that, but price gauging seems a bit unfair just because people may not pay attention. In fact, as I pulled away, I saw a few victims in the lot. BEWARE!!!!! I was in Orlando last week and stopped to get gas. I wasn't really paying attention to the price per gallon simply because in my experience the prices are relatively close between stations in a certain geographical location. I started the pump and when it clicked off I was SHOCKED to see that it took $95.00 to fill up my car (15.836 gallons). I looked at the price and your station was charging $5.999 per gallon! That is over $2.00 more then any other station in that area. I watched them all during the week to see and they were all in the $3.00 range. I should have known when nobody was at the stations and others were full that there was an issue so my fault. Shame on Shell for allowing this station owner to gouge it's customers. read more
