We tried to speak some French (a little effort goes a LONG way), but then he broke out nearly perfect English, LOL! The shop has tons of local wines that I'd never seen before, and they're beautifully stored and organized. We asked for some help for a nice local red, and the man suggested a few options that were in our price range (we didn't want to spend over 75 Euro). This would be a fantastic place to buy some unique wine to take home as souvenirs or, as in our case, to drink on the train the next day! If you're a wine lover (they sell spirits, too), make sure you take a moment to stop in and shop. La Sommeliere is also a fun place to browse if you're a fan of wine!

Bought a magnet for our collection on our fridge. But there are also countless other items here to be found. Bring some time with to fully enjoy and explore the shop. Walked out with a "This Home Is Guarded By An English Bulldog" door sign (in french) and a very very beautiful wind chime. We were looking for something like that for many months everywhere. And we found it. Here in charming Eguisheim. Staff was very friendly. Not pushy and not rushing. Prices are fair. The shop is easy to find, it's on the ring walk leading around and through Eguisheim.

Located in Riquewihr, one of the most charming villages in France (they won this designation in a…read morecontest), on a picturesque cobblestoned street straight out of a fairy tale. I just loved this basement store, the handpainted ceramic tableware in the Alsace tradition, and many other kitchen items. I purchased the cutest Kouglof mold for a friend, wish I bought more but suitcase space was definitely at a premium. I picked out some Riquewihr ornaments, with the half-timbered buildings representative of this area. If you are in the Alsace region, you shouldn't miss this lovely village.

In fact, the most shopping I did in Colmar was at Le Petit Souk, a brick and mortar toy store. The shop was colorful and inviting, and I thought it might be a good place for my sons to pick out a couple of souvenirs. We walked in and I let them loose, and they immediately found things they wanted. My five-year-old picked out some space-themed marbles and a couple of nice wooden cars, and my three-year-old got a metal airplane toy and a container of some kind of weird putty. I hated the putty, but thought the other toys were solid buys, attractive and well made. My mother purchased them for my boys as an early Christmas gift. I also found a great ornament for our tree. If you're shopping for kids in Colmar, I'd recommend Le Petit Souk over the pure holiday kitsch in the temporary markets. It's a well curated store with quality merchandise, and certainly Christmasy enough.

This was surprisingly hard to come by in the Christmas markets, and I was relieved to find a rack at the entrance to BisCroC, a busy souvenir shop and gourmet market. My five-year-old went in with me and selected his favorite of the postcards, which he would write on to send to his dad. It was a nice illustrated card with "Colmar" written on it in big block letters. I went to pay but didn't have cash, and the credit card minimum was--fair enough--€5. I took a look around the store, and while it was full of housewares and local products, Alsatian wines and truffly goods, I was hard pressed to find anything I wanted to carry around France then take home in our one suitcase. I let my child select a magnet to add to his collection. I think BisCroC is also some kind of cafe, where you can get drinks and maybe some light food. It seems like a useful stop, where you can take care of a variety of needs. I didn't see another place selling postcards the entire day.

She also wrapped each ornament we bought in bubble wrap then newspaper since I told her I would travel.
