I wrote a rather negative review before after experiencing awful customer service. I don't see how I can change that but I have to update. They have been doing a much better job with their hiring. For many months now all the employees are pleasant and have senses of humor. Previously I'd felt like the cashiers ignored me (a woman in my 60s and past my prime!) in favor of a young cute woman. It was really rude. That has not been repeated in some time. I like this store now! Great selection! And really nice employees! read more

Recently I went in for the soul purpose of purchasing a variety of local beers for an event I was hosting. I'm not a beer drinker and asked for some help locating the local brands. There were two people behind the counter and one replied "I'm sorry we can't help you, but the beer guy will be back in a little bit if you would like to wait." How can the employees not even know which beers they sell are from local breweries?! Very disappointed. I took my business to another local shop where they were happy to assist. read more

Such a let down. They have mostly wine. Not a wine drinker looking for something harder to drink.

Is the store under new ownership? In the past, I have ordered many cases of wine. The staff has always been helpful and knowledgeable. Tonight, they apparently consumed a large dish of snark with a side of ignorance. I was treated rudely about every aspect of my shopping experience. They rudely addressed me about not getting a cart when I decided to buy a few extra bottles (seriously, who complains when the customer decides to buy more??) This was followed by extreme ignorance about their product - Creme de Violette is NOT made from lavender even if it is lavender in color and yes, I do know I can't buy liquor in the grocery store - please, don't compound your ignorance with stupidity. Finally, I was rudely given a lesson on product distribution at checkout when I asked about a new item. I do hope it was an off night and the courteous and knowledgeable staff will once again return, showing the door to the rude persons who have currently taken over. By the way, the only reason I gave them 2 stars and not one is because they still have a good selection. read more

The store is always very clean. Clerks are helpful when you ask and don't bother you while you're looking. They have a nice variety of wine and beer. They don't have a great variety of hard cider though, maybe 6 different brands. Prices are reasonable. Overall a nice shop in a convenient place with lots of parking. read more

I am an avid craft beer drinker and this is my go-to place. It does not have the vast selection (one I find overwhelming and intimidating) of 5 Points, but it makes up for that in a careful and well thought out stock. I come here weekly and there is always one or two new and interesting beers to try. They have a good assortment of singles, so I am able to sample a wide variety without having to invest in a six pack of beer that might not please. Beer comes in on Thursdays and if you like them on FB, you will get a heads up on incoming product. Never had to wait in line, the checkouts are attentive and jump to get you out the door without delay. A true asset on the East Side. read more

So - a decent selection of everything. What I want to comment on is the rudeness of the cashiers. They are so busy talking to each other (sometimes 3 of them), they don't make ANY eye contact with you, the customer. Not only that -- there's no hello, no thank you, nothing. I went in asking for ginger beer to make a Moscow mile they pointed me in the direction. I got home and it wasn't that so I drove back and had to get the real ginger beer. What pissed me off is the guy said that's what I need and it was incorrect. Anytime I have a party or get-together to go to, this is my jam for drinks of the alcoholic variety. The store is very well organized and laid out. It is open and airy and doesn't have the normal feel of a dark,dank package store. The employees always greet me when I come in and always make sure I have found what I'm looking for. They are very knowledgeable and give good recommendations. The prices are also good. read more

My wife and I have lived on the east side for 10 years now, and ever since Village Wine and Spirits opened up, they have been our go-to source for good times in a bottle. Always excellent, spot on recommendations, and everyone is always friendly to the point that you wanna hang out with them, if only they weren't working. If you're on the east side, or even if you're not, this is the place to go. They may not be as huge as, say, the west side 5 Points location, but there's a helluva lot more heart and soul. read more

Cashiers are very rude and don't know how to treat customers, on one occasion I waited in line and when it was my turn the cashier turn and walked off to carry on a conversation with his co-worker and left me standing at the counter,I waited for about 20seconds and decided to go somewhere else. On a second occasion no greeting no thank-you or anything took my money turned around and walked away I had to call him back just to get a receipt, just bad customer service skills. read more

If you live east of East Campus Rd. and you buy your alcohol anywhere else, you're making a mistake. But fear not, all is not lost. Simply go to Village Wine & Spirit where you will find an incredible wine and beer selection as well as liquors ranging from Everclear to Glenfiddich. While you're there, enjoy an enriching conversation about the difference between a Russian Ale and an Imperial IPA. Every time I am there (which is more often than I care to confess) I am suggested to try a wine (and they are 100% respectful of your budget) which so very often becomes my new favorite. Today I was introduced to a bottle of "Old Vine Zinfandel" - just one of so many suggestions that have reinforced the deep trust I have in their staff. They know what they're talking about! .... As an aside, their "tobacco" selection is really just a dozen or so cigars which represent a spectrum of quality/cost, so if thats what you're looking for you will find a couple great cigars and some reasonably priced common cigars here, but not a great variety. read more
