Staff isn't the friendliest and never seem to know anything. -Older man just sits in the back on his stool and never wants to get up and help a customer. I was looking for something particular and he told me where to find it, I couldn't find it and asked him if he would help me and show me exactly where and he grunted and ordered another coworker to show me. -I ordered a tool rack and after I picked it up I continued to get calls to come and get it. I could have easily picked up another one and sell it and make something off of it but I'm an honest person and kept telling them I already got it. Why they just can't update their system and make note it was already picked up is beyond me. Seems like a common sense thing to do when someone picks up an order. -I also got a very large gift card there from my in laws sent via email and they said I couldn't use it there because the bar code doesn't work. I then took the gift card over to Southold and the manager said yes the barcode doesn't work for whatever reason but I had no problem using it there and the manager said it just needs to be manually put in instead of scanning. So I went back to SI Ace Hardware I told them what Southold said and they refused to manually put it in. So now I have this gift card that I can't use in the town I live in and have to go off island to buy basic things I need for my house. It's very frustrating. Just seems like whenever I go there for something it's always an issue.

If you pick up a tool @ 2:00 pm and bring it back @ 8:00 am the next day they will only charge you a half day. Some of the tools are much more expensive then home depot but they are of higher quality. The only reason I dread this place is the counter staff. It is really hard to communicate with these people. If you stay friendly they will help you. Just keep your patients.

The manager Andy would not tell me the cost of either of the two watches that I inquired about and he would not take them out of the case for me to see them, completely blowing me off. Long ago, I brought my watch for repair of a loose dial to Corwin Jewelers, Southampton. They fixed that, but the week afterward, the watch minute and hour hands froze up a couple times. I returned the watch and they observed the watch for a few days and the problem did not occur, so the watch was returned to me without anything done. The watch hands froze up again twice this week and again I returned to the Southampton store for the same problem. The store people told me they were going to watch the watch to see if there was a problem. I have photos of the frozen watch hands but that was not enough to convince them! Then they said they would send it out again and get me an estimate for the repair, at my cost!! I have always had this watch repaired at Southampton's London Jewelers without any quality issues, but at the time I sought out help from Corwin's, my "go to" place was closed. One star for Corwin for terrible customer service, and waste of my time over multiple trips there. They claim the intervention to fix the dial had nothing at all to do with the hands freezing the week after their repair man fiddled with the piece. I simply to not accept this failure to make things right and will never use nor recommend doing business with Corwin again. One hour later addendum: Corwin messaged me to let me know that my initial payment of $85 is going to be refunded to me. Note that I was repeatedly clear about the watch intermittently stopped and gets going when I reset the hands. At no time did Corwin tell me that they would pay for the added repair costs. I did get quite angry with the staff due to the frustration over how my concerns were addressed, and I apologize. Update: Corwin's did refund me and I put up with the watch that continued to repeatedly stop. I brought it today September 25, 2025, into Southampton's London Jewelers for that same problem. Their expert took it and opened it up immediately and said the problem was probably from a loose battery not being secured properly by a plate. He explained that he observed the battery to be loose when it was supposed to be held snugly in place. He said the battery was fine and that there was no need to send it out for repair. Not only did I appreciate the friendly and helpful London Jewelers staff, the location has incredibly delicious quality chocolate cookies and other treats (free) while you wait. Finally, the watch was returned to my wrist with the time reset and I was wished well and WAS NOT CHARGED. Now that is perfect customer service!

So when I have a chance I've been driving out east to tour what's in the book. This is the oldest operating family run hardware store on LI. My dad and I met Charlie who was one of the employees featured in the book and he let us take a picture with him for instagram. I bought a Stanley. I was trying so hard not to get one but I finally caved. They had 30 oz ones for $40. I don't know if that was a good price or not but I got a nice green one. I wanted to support the store and wasn't sure what else to get I looked around to see if I could get a Christmas gift for someone on my list but didn't really find anything. This is a nice store to visit worth checking out for the historical factor!

After I told him numerous times that I know that I got the right one for me, he goes on to tell me that he's sure he'll see me back in here because again, he's sure I didn't get the right one. I work for a local business that often shops at this hardware store as well as multiple others on the East End because I prefer supporting the local businesses instead of Amazon & other online companies etc. I am so disappointed & for the record, I got the right one and most certainly will not be coming back.

I have been a PB customer for years, in most recent years mostly shopping online. But occasionally, I do feel the need to visit a brick and mortar store to touch and see items before purchasing. In the past, I visited PB's Huntington location, mostly because it is the closest to my home. But, it was always a let down. The Huntington location is famous for its exceptionally poor customer service and I've experienced it first hand many times:( Today however, I was in the mood to take a drive. I called ahead to see if the Southampton store had the item I was looking for (no longer available online). I had them put it on hold for me and jumped in the car. When I entered the store, I was greeted by several very friendly employees who asked if there was anything they could help me with. It wasn't one of those obligatory greetings where an employee acknowledges you quickly while rushing by, they were genuinely happy to help. I told them I was going to look around a bit and I'd let them know. I had seen some pillow covers online that I wanted to purchase but I couldn't find them. I asked and they were located for me. I purchased them along with another two pillow covers I had put on hold. I was also interested in a rug but I wanted to see it in person before purchasing it online. They didn't have it on the sales floor but the manager, Karen, went out of her way to find a swatch for me. She was very helpful. She's even going to try to find it for me locally so I don't have to pay for oversized delivery. My experience in the Southampton store was such a breath of fresh air. It reminded me why I fell in love with Pottery Barn so many years ago. Bravo to the entire staff at this location. In the future, this is where I will shop when I shop at a physical PB location. *On a side note, I thought the Huntington store was closer to my home and while it is closer in distance it took me about the same amount of time to drive to Southampton. I will most certainly return. This store has two floors and is laid out beautifully with tons of eye candy. I dare you to shop here and not buy something;)
