I stopped in the other day in search of some acrylic sheeting from their scrap bin…read more First off, if you drive south on Delashmut from 5th Avenue and don't take a good look around until you get to the 1349 address, you won't see American Plastic. There is a row of businesses that share the 1349 Delashmut address and American Plastic is at the western end of the building. You can easily see their store if you're traveling east on 5th Avenue, but if you're heading west on 5th Avenue... well, you have to be a wee bit more alert. Secondly, I thought I had a complaint about these folks. Years ago I had a strip heater that I used for bending acrylic sheeting. It disappeared sometime in the past 15 years or so, and while I was at American Plastic I decided to get a new one. The new one is nicer than my old one, in that it came wired. When I bought the new heater and my other stuff, I didn't pay a lot of attention to the costs of the individual items. When I got home, though, I saw they'd charged me $46.95 for the strip heater. My recollection is that I paid somewhere around $19.95 for my old strip heater, so the $46.95 price of the new one seemed awfully high. Before calling and complaining about the price, I decided to see what Amazon.com was charging for the heater. Turned out the exact same heater from the exact same manufacturer is $55.00. I guess I'll just have to get used to the fact that strip heaters cost more than they did when I bought my old one (sometime around 1980). As always, the folks working at American Plastic Distributors were very friendly and very helpful.

I've been aware of Barstows for many years - since their days in Uptown Westerville but this was…read morethe first time I need engraving services. The pastor at our church was retiring after 26+ years and we wanted to add his name to a plaque that included the names of all our pastors back to the early 1800's. The last time the plaque was update was in 1996 and the company that originally made the plaque is no longer in business. So, I took the plaque in to Barstows and asked them if they could match the engraving from 26+ years ago and add our retiring pastor's name to the plaque. The lady waiting on me (one of the Barstows) said it looked like the previous name plates had been done with a router but that she would do her best to match the font, etc. with her laser engraving equipment. I was thrilled with the job she did - she matched the font almost perfectly and an untrained eye probably wouldn't know that it was 26 years between the time the last two names were engraved on the plaque. GREAT JOB, GREAT SERVICE and VERY, VERY REASONABLE.

I had insurance so I filed a claim & they directed me to return to Diamond Cellar to pick out a replacement ring. Immediately it was not a pleasant experience. The receptionist never placed me in que despite being the 3rd person in the door after they opened at 10am. I sat annoyed for over 30 mins before approaching her again and asked if I should just make an appt. She said no there was a mix up. I wish I would've just left then. So much happened in between then and now but on 4/25 I called asked if I could speak to a manager because after placing my replacement order they have continued to try to mark the price up despite everything being written up properly & me having both the receipts for the stone as well as the setting. I originally called 3.5 hrs before closing and the receptionist told me if the female manager felt it was important she would return my call. I called back 25 mins before they closed again asking to speak to the manager. She then informed me the manager would call me back closer to closing time. I said do you not close in 25 mins? She said yes then abruptly ended the phone call that ended with "bye". At this point I'm going to try to reach someone af the corporate office because the way they are behaving like a used car sales lot is appalling. I refuse to pay a penny more than the agreed upon price that is on all my order receipts I was given when I placed the order on 2/21. They have flat out lied twice now about why the cost is changing. Avoid at all cost, even if you've had spectacular experience there in the past. I would much rather have them refund my insurance company the money that was wired to them for the replacement and take my business elsewhere and be treated as a valued customer.
