A good place to get together with a group of friends. We went for a friend's birthday and mainly chilled in the upstairs area! There were many bar games; Jenga, Darts, and shuffle board. There's lots of space to talk and chill together. The food we delish and the bartenders were very on point and moved quickly. Sadly the phone did not eat first and I don't have pics to share. I've been a regular at The Village Tavern for quite some time, both during the day and night, and I'm disappointed by the direction the bar has taken since the new owner took over. The most obvious change? The music. All rap has been removed from the TouchTunes, which feels like a targeted and racially motivated decision. Music is a huge part of the bar's atmosphere, and the exclusion of an entire genre--one that's deeply rooted in Black culture--is not just tone-deaf, it's outright discriminatory. Beyond the music, it's clear that the new owner doesn't care about the regulars who have supported this place for years. Whether it's the daytime crowd or the late-night regulars, we're being ignored in favor of changes that do nothing to improve the bar's community vibe. To make matters worse, the bar stayed open during heavy construction. No one wants to enjoy a drink while breathing in dust and debris. It's not just unprofessional, it's unhealthy--and shows a lack of concern for both customers and staff. The bartenders, especially the good ones who've built strong relationships with customers, are now at risk of losing money and loyal patrons because of these poor decisions. The direction this place is heading in feels like a step backward, not forward. This bar used to feel like home for a lot of people. Sadly, under the current ownership, it's becoming a place many no longer want to support. read more

The new ownership who paid 2 million for this dumpster fire is doing a great job and is really turning things around. Maybe instead of laughing at patrons who try to exit your building, you should have your door up to code. Egress doors should be in the direction of egress, extremely negligent. And mostly just annoying to have a sixty year old bouncer watch you struggle then laugh at you. read more

Your experience at village tavern will depend on expectations and time-of-day. It is in the middle of Montgomery, but just know that despite the posh surroundings, it is a dive bar. It is a great place to watch some sports, play typical bar games, and have reasonably priced basic drinks. If that is what you want you'll be pleased. Later at night it often has some live music or DJ and it takes on more of a crowded, clubby atmosphere. Like a dive club maybe? In any case, it has multiple rooms, multiple bars, and a patio, so you should be able to find a place you are comfortable. read more

Went here for a friend's birthday on a Saturday night. The surrounding area is so cute and quaint, located next door to Montgomery Inn. Showed up around 11 and unfortunately the kitchen was closed by then. Not sure what kind of food was available, but lucky for me a pizza truck pulled up outside later in the night. Large space with multiple rooms and bars. Very loud and feels smoky. Looks like a small dance floor is the focus of the main room, but the place was so crowded you couldn't access the bar in the back through all the dancers. Service was good, decent prices, plus you can reserve the party room like we did. Had a good time but not really my style. Would not return. read more

Village Tavern has a great location on the corner of Cooper and Montgomery in downtown Montgomery. It also has the best happy hour I've ever seen: Monday - Friday, 4pm - 8pm, everything on the menu is 50% off. This just cannot be beat. The setup is a little funky with three different bar areas (some of which may or may not be closed depending on the night), a stage with dance floor and an outdoor patio to top things off. Sometimes it's difficult to get service from the waitresses, but other nights they are great and super friendly. This can get really frustrating, but since we mostly go on Last Call Trivia nights, I'm guessing their attention is divided amongst many large parties. I usually look for Keith and sit in his area. He's a nice guy and I've observed that he has good relationship with his regulars. Some of my food favorites are any of the pizzas (served with a very thin and crispy crust), the soft pretzel bites appetizer, the sampler appetizer plate, the fish and chips and the buffalo chicken sliders. read more

I'm happy this bar is able to stay open during Covid. Been going to this bar/nightclub for over 10 years. It is under new management but still remains a locals bar where everyone knows your name. Always enjoy the good when I eat there and the happy hour is one of the best I've ever experienced. Needs some updating but if you can look past that it's worth the visit. read more

Denied service, ridiculous servers It took me 35 minutes to get a drink. By the time I ordered, they gave me the wrong drink and claimed that I ordered incorrectly. Servers are very rude, as are the doormen. Sadly it is the only big bar in the area so if you're trying to go for a drink late at night its the place to be. read more

We were in Cinci for a surprise birthday party later on in the evening (from Columbus), and my group wanted to find a place to watch the Buckeyes before the shindig. Village Tavern almost met our needs. Being from Cbus, we kind of just assumed our game would be on. Wrong, no one really cares about that here. The other patrons (and TVs) were tuned into the Bearcats. Understandable. We got a large tv in the back, but we couldn't have the sound on. It was strange watching a football game accompanied by the sound of another football game. The eats were okay, the beer list was predictable. The waitress was appropriately attentive (and so were her boobs, hello!). With this location, on a relatively quaint street, I might have expected some craft brews or something. We were here for happy hour last Thursday. First impression, the place smells like vinegar and stale beer, but so do most bars. They have a decent happy hour deal, with discounted drinks and 1/2 off appetizers. We had the pretzels, which were really pretty good, I was impressed. They also have a very big selection of drafts and bottles. As the night went on, the music got louder and a younger crowd filtered in. ****DISCLAIMER: I am not a drinker and I do not go to bars very often at all.**** My wife and I came here for a private party the other night. I was told that the area had been reserved for only the cost of food which was very very reasonable. The music played in the attached area was "club" like but a second tier club if it were. There happened to be a bachelorette party there and an octogenarian who stared at the bachelorette party there which makes for interesting company. As for things to do here, there is a small dance floor which seemed to get more crowded as the night went on. There is an outdoor bar and smoking area which was rather well occupied until the rain started. In the reserved area, there was a pool table ($1 per game), two televisions on which we watched the celtics play the bulls (by the way, wow, Rondo what an injury!) Overall, we had a good time and it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to think we'd return someday. But let me be clear this is getting four stars because there is a lot packed in for a reasonable price not because it is truly spectacular in any one aspect. read more

Village Tavern gets a four star review based on my single experience last night, karaoke night! Some friends and I hit this place up on a suggestion and we were all glad we did. I can't comment on the food, and am an out of towner but the food did look good, advertised happy hour and specials seem very good. I can't sing, but alot of the regulars there last night were top catch, entertaining and just a cool atmosphere to hang out in. Bar tender was very tentative, responsive and served up some great top shelf drinks last night. The layout of this place is interesting with 3 different bar locations jam packed into an average space for sports bar, but the pool tables were a nice touch. I will be back on a different night to try some of the food, who knows could be a completely different experience however based on a good time last night, I'm willing to give it a shot ;) read more

Worst bar I've ever been to. The security staff was the worst I've experienced in my 20 years, since turning 21. One of them grab me from behind, put his arm around my neck, after the other security guard got an attitude with me, because we had a 20 year Old with us. We were coming from a funeral and asked if he could sit and have a Pepsi. We only wanted one last drink in order to celebrate a life taken too soon. Once I asked him that he got an aggressive attitude with me, and threatened me, with my entire family there. I never use Yelp, but this was by far the worst experience I've ever had at a bar/restaurant. My sister lost her husband, we weren't there to cause trouble, but this bouncer, in a neon green shirt that said, "security", took it upon himself to ruin a night where we were trying to celebrate a life...not pick a fight. I'd never go back, or if anyone ever asked me about it, I'd tell them never to waste your time with some security tough guy. read more

I was part of a group of seven that attended a happy hour after work on a recent Tuesday. We showed up around 5:30 and hung out at a table until about 7:30 and overall it was a good experience. The happy hour prices were awesome! Our table shared appetizers including soft pretzels (served with honey mustard and cheese sauce), spinach and artichoke dip (served with flat bread), chicken wings (hot), and potato skins. All of the food offerings were very good, much better than I remember them being from the last time I was there about a year ago. Beer and wine selections were standard with a handful of draft beers, but I would like to have seen a larger draft selection for a bar such as this. The only negative to our experience was having to wait on our waitress for refills on our beers, repeatedly. Members of our party had to call out to her by name on at least two separate occasions to get her to come over to our table. It also took us quite a long time to cash out, especially since it was only one bill for then entire table. It's the location and atmosphere of this bar that makes it such a nice place. In the heart of Old Montgomery this place is at a prime location, and is unique enough to keep it above some of the more mundane places for a drink or happy hour closer to Kenwood Towne Centre. I would like to have given this place a four star review, but it was the below average service and lack of draft beer selections that bring it down to a three star for me. read more

Came here on a Tuesday night with some friends. Rude service and just ok food. Before my friends and I even sat down at the bar, the bartender threw a few menus down on the bar and said "What do you want?" We were in the middle of taking off our coats and getting situated - not ready to order yet! Give us second, lady. This bar now is banning anyone that has a hooded garment from entering. Apparently someone with a hood stole a purse a few weeks ago so now everyone wearing a hood is not allowed to enter. While we were in line, several females and males walked into the bars wearing hoods but we were not allowed to enter. When we asked why, we were told that "we didn't see them enter." read more

Went last Sunday to watch the Bengals play and received absolutely horrid service. The bartender/waitress was so rude and made us feel as if we were inconveniencing her by placing an order. At one point I even apologized for being such a bother after she rolled her eyes at me. She didn't provide me change either and when I called her out on it, said I'll get it. You know it was only $1.62. They got 2 out of 3 orders wrong and then during the second quarter of the Bengals game they allowed a customer to change the game on the big TV we were watching, without asking, to watch a different football game. The bar is really nice inside but, it was very obvious why they were empty on a Sunday during football season when the bar across the street was packed. Don't go to this place!! This is a dive bar so you need to keep your expectations pretty low. My family goes for their Taco Wednesday every Wednesday night. Cheap tacos and half priced drinks! The quality of the tacos varies depending on the chef, who changes frequently. The service is never great so you may just need to go up to the bar if you want a drink. But it's always a fun atmosphere and great place to hang out after work. read more
