My husband and I been members of Great Life Golf & Fitness for a very long time - over 7 years. We…read morerecently contacted the gym to cancel our membership, since we moved to MO and will not have access to their facilities. I have never been more disappointed in a company, than I was in the response we received from Great Life. I want to share their response, because I have recommended Great Life to so many friends and I want anyone who signed up from our referral to have this information. I also want anyone who is considering a Great Life membership to have this information. This is "need to know" information, as the laws in KS do not protect consumers (at all) regarding gym contracts. When you sign a contract with Great Life, the fine print states that you have to cancel by Feb. 28 of each year or your contract renews without any acknowledgment from you. So if you forget to cancel by 2/28 - you are legally obligated to the membership for the next year starting April 1st. It doesn't matter if you are hurt or injured and can't use your membership. It doesn't matter if you move out of state. Also please note: The contract says you have to give written notice which has to be give to the offices in Ozawkie. I would strongly recommend that you send a certified letter, because if they don't acknowledge your request to cancel - it is your word against theirs. We were not aware that we would be moving on 2/28, when the deadline for termination rolled around. In my wildest dreams, I never realized that Great Life would give us any issue with cancelling after we had paid them for 7 years without missing a payment or being a late on a payment. We were valued patrons, so they told us. Apparently they love their membership fees way more than they ever cared about their members. Every other gym we have belonged to has let people out of the contract if they moved to a location where it wouldn't be feasible to access the facilities. It would be completely different if we had the membership for a couple months and just wanted to cancel. We don't live within 100 miles of any Great Life facilities. Another interesting piece of information on Great Life - to raise prices on gym members, Great Life only has to send a postcard via USPS stating the price increase. If you don't receive that postcard and decide to cancel when your rate actually goes up on 4/1 - you are screwed and can't cancel. So if you are signing up for a gym membership, I would strongly encourage you to know that there is literally no laws that look out for gym members and companies like Great Life will absolutely capitalize on this. Great Life will allow us to buy out the remainder of our contract by paying 70% of the remaining payments or we can find someone to take over our membership. Why in the heck would I try to pawn this situation off on my friends? I wouldn't. I would rather pony up and pay the 70% of the contract than screw my friends over. Maybe if Great Life understood that, they would retain more customers the good old fashioned way!

Our group recently stayed at this ranch for a special event. While there were parts of the…read moreexperience we enjoyed, unfortunately there were also several things that made members of our group extremely uncomfortable. During our late-night horseback ride, the employee accompanying us touched the thighs of the women riding and got extremely close to, if not touching, one woman's butt. I was one of the ladies he touched. His name is JR. He also made a sexual comment to the youngest woman in our group about men who ride horses making better lovers because of their hip movement. This was completely inappropriate and made us uncomfortable. Earlier in the evening, the same employee had been drinking and continued inserting himself into our group's event. Telling us he had to stay during the bonfire even though the next morning a female employee told us that was a lie. He did not have to stay. During the horseback ride, we also witnessed him yelling at a horse, calling it names, and becoming physical with it, which was upsetting to watch. He would hit the horse in the face and call it a "dickhead." There were some additional communication issues regarding the horseback riding schedule and breakfast. I had reached out to the owner twice on us not arriving a three. When she communicated with me at the beginning I took it as we can check in as soon as 3 pm and check out as late of 11 am. However, she never told me the horse back ride was on a schedule. She also had poor communicate with answering and acknowledge my text on time we would be arriving and then was rude when we arrived. We had been told there would be cinnamon rolls for breakfast but were instead provided muffins that were available to everyone on the ranch. We also misunderstood the level of privacy we would have during the event. The owner later clarified that we had not paid for a completely private ranch rental. People were coming in and out of the table we were provided for meals to get food for themselves. However, those misunderstandings are minor compared with the conduct we experienced during the horseback ride. We brought all of these concerns to the owner and was told that she would speak with the employee and that nothing like this had been reported about him during his three years working there. However, I have found other complaints similar on the behavior towards the horses. I'm sharing our experience because I believe other women considering staying or riding here deserve to know what occurred during our visit.

A beach, campgrounds, and a boating/ fishing area is available to the public as well as an extensive hiking area. I partook in the hiking area, and it was well worth it. This is a real hiking area, no paved trails or off looks, just rocky crags, and a challenge. There are about eight trails that weave extensively through several different terrains including wooded areas, lake sides, prairie grass, and steep climbs. The trails were not well marked and one could easily get lost, as I said before the trails often weaved into each other and it was hard to tell which trail you were on at times. Even the provided maps were not that helpful because there was no legend to tell you how long the trails are. These trails are not really meant for the leisurely hiking/ bicycling type, and as a word of warning make sure you bring bug repellent, after the trek my partner and I found several ticks and other bugs crawling all over us.

We were invited to a party in Topeka, and if we were going to drive the hour from KC, we might as well make a day of it! This zoo is the perfect size for younger children like we have (ages 2, and almost 4). We saw a bear, giraffes, hippos, elephants, moneys, and more! The new giraffe house is really awesome! It puts you really close to the giraffes. When my daughter got in the giraffe house she had this huge face of excitement and said, "woh!" It was also my favorite exhibit. We like that the zoo is small, and doesn't take all day. I also like that a lot of exhibits are in door because the Midwest has a lot of months with unbearable weather. There needs to be a lot more updates to the zoo, and that's why a 4/5. We will be back I am sure. When we left we paid to go in the miniature train and the kids loved that. Lastly, we went to the discovery center which is only a couple of minutes away. There is so much to do in such close proximity for kids.
