For an inexpensive public golf course, I was impressed. I did not have any issues with the staff or other players that a few reviewers noted. The food and drink was reasonable for a golf course. The carts were in good condition. The greens were not at a PGA level but you shouldn't expect it at this price range. We had a back up but that is expected for a Sunday morning. Came to play a round with the boys and the staff turned it into a disaster. Not professional, not empathetic, unwilling to serve paying customers with quality service. Marshall wouldn't allow us to do a 6 person scramble, cart path only. Didn't care about our situation and we're assuming they turned the sprinklers on us. Conditions were terrible, soaking wet and flooded. You guys need to get better staff. I expect this treatment in California. Not Kansas. read more

It had been nearly 15 years since I played this track west of Lawrence KS. It did not disappoint. The course was in great shape for mid August in Kansas. My only issue was following two fivesomes for the entire round, waiting on virtually every tee and approach shot for 4 1/2 hours. At some point, we should have been waved through. I can understand allowing five in winter months. But in prime golf season, it's not fair to those others trying to keep a rhythm game moving along. Our threesome would have completed play in under 3 1/2 hours without these game killer groups! When players book over the phone, as we did, the pro shop needs to advise golfers that this may happen. We would have played elsewhere. The course gets 5 stars. Lack of common courtesy by fellow golfers gets 1 star. Take the average. read more

Eagle Bend is a wonderful public course that is well maintained and challenging. Kudos to the grounds maintenance crew for doing such a good job to keep this course in great shape. Green fees are reasonable for the quality of the course. read more

The old man working on Friday aug 13th needs a joint or bowl. Terrible customer service, this man was so unfriendly, no wonder young people think of old man so mad and grumpy cuz he was! Why take Tee times at 3pm if you're going to rush them to finish by 6pm? Highly don't recommend playing here, especially if ur a young person, this guy had no respect towards us. Iv been to other golf courses where they actually encourage us to stay longer and keep getting betters. Also look at the past reviews, no other public golf courses in Lawrence, so eagles bend thinks they r top notch. The employee on aug 13th was very unprofessional, guy sucks. read more

The greens and fairways are kept in great shape for a public course. A medium bucket of ball ($7) on the range is a nice way to loosen up. Tee-times are recommended on the weekend, and they offer student discounts so don't forget your ID. I'm more a fan of walking the course versus riding in a cart, but the rolling hills of the course can be tiring. The front nine abut the club house, where you can get cold drinks, packaged snacks and hot dogs before hitting the back nine. The area is very scenic. The staff is friendly, and overall enjoy the course. It's more laid back than Alvamar, but it sometimes does feel like a boys club when I'm one of the few females on the course. There are a lot of KU events here, especially with summer camps, so you might want to call ahead to ensure that the long range is open before you head out. read more

Eagle Bend golfing is truly the best golfing experience in all of Lawrence. It is away from the main part of town, and it isn't too crowded. There are many challenging holes, and some laid back ones so everyone can experience a par or two. The entire staff is very professional and kind, and they catered to all of my needs. I suggest to go in the late spring and early summer, because any other time than that will most likely be too hot or too cold. Also, later in the day is better because as you come around to the last few holes, you can golf into the sunset, and in Lawrence, they are often beautiful. read more

If you find yourself traveling to or through Kansas City, Topeka, or Lawrence, Eagle Bend is not the cheapest public course by far, but it is a well maintained and challenging layout. The first six holes are links-style with undulating fairways surrounded by native grasses (sorry, no gorse) with the final 12 meandering through marshy woodlands surrounding the Wakarusa River. Prices range from $22 (walking/18 holes/M-F) to $49 (riding/18 holes/weekend) with seniors (60+) and juniors (under 18) getting a slight price break during the week. There are no military or veteran discounts and, oddly enough, no "twilight" or winter rates and "NO DISCOUNTS (PERIOD) ON WEEKENDS". You pay full price no matter what time of year or time of day it is, no wiggle room (more on that later). The clubhouse is small with a snack bar that seems to do little business, a very limited pro shop, restrooms, a few tables and a couple TVs. I am not sure what capability to snack bar has, but I have never seen anybody sitting in the clubhouse eating a hamburger or sandwich. The pro shop has a small selection of balls and tees, a couple golf bags, and a few gloves, hats and shirts. It does not appear that Eagle Bend's clubhouse is intended to generate much income as far as I can tell and it obviously does not. The course is very walkable with the exception of the 300-yard treks between the clubhouse and 1st/10th tees and the 1st/10th greens and the 2nd/11th tees. Relatively flat, the only exertion you will encounter are the large gullies in front of the 17th and 18th greens. The fairways are Zoysia grass and very well maintained. I have been told that their greenskeeper used to work for a cross-town course, Alvamar, and from what I have observed, they are lucky to have him because their fairways are in much better shape than semi-private Alvamar's Zoysia fairways. If you hit a ball in the fairway, you should have a good lie, a ball that sits-up, and that is normally the case at Eagle Bend. The only exception, strangely enough, is the 18th fairway where the Zoysia stops at the 150 yard marker, leaving a routinely poor lie off of what looks like Perennial Rye grass for your approach shot to the final hole. The greens are decent and fairly fast, but few people seem to repair their pitch marks, so even the best putt can go astray from time to time. Maybe they could sell, or even give away, inexpensive pitch mark repair tools in the pro shop and post a few signs reminding people to clean up after themselves. Zoysia on the landing area of the 18th would also be a big plus. There are not a lot of sand traps, but the few they have are strategically placed. The sand is heavy, likely river sand from the nearby Kansas River, leading to difficult shots and inconsistent results for those of us who do not carry a PGA Tour card. With four sets of tees (gold, blue, white and red), the course is challenging for both sexes and all skill levels. Being close to sixty, I have lost some distance in recent years and find the blue tees a tad too long for my pleasure, so I normally play the whites when I want to enjoy myself. With prevailing winds from the south/southwest, all but four holes are reachable in regulation for the average golfer from the white tes: Hole #7 - From where the white tees are normally placed, hole #7 (par 4) plays close to 400 yards, normally into the wind, making it very difficult to reach the green even with two good shots. Hole #8 - A par 3, hole #7 normally plays between 150 and 170 yards directly into the wind with a lake running down the right and a large bunker left of the green, requiring anything from a six iron to a five wood off the tee. Hole #15 - Very similar to #7, this nearly 400 yard par 4 routinely plays into the wind with native grasses on the left and woods to the right as well as protecting the green on all sides. Hole #18 - Another 400 yarder from the new, slightly elevated tees, this hole play into the teeth of the wind and has native grasses and woods lining the entire hole. There is a large gully in front of the green with a creek running under and on both sides of the fairway, narrowing to less than 20 yards for any short or errant shot. When you are a high handicapper or senior and have difficulty hitting a drive over 220 yards with no wind, a par 4 that is 400 yards or a long, well-protected par 3 into the wind makes birdie impossible and par unlikely. From the white tees, 375-385 yards should be the longest par 4 on the course if you want to be fair to the average golfer and speed play. Otherwise, Eagle Bend is fair and a good challenge as the wind is almost always blowing, swirling and changing directions because of the influence of the Clinton Lake Dam which towers over the west side of the course. This is an ok course but the staff is among the rudest and least professional I have ever run into. The service is horrible, with the staff more worried about watching television or talking with friends than taking care of patrons. When they do bother, it is clear they are doing you a major favor. Don't expect fast play, there will probably be a fivesome (buddies of the marshals, or even the marshals) in front of you. And don't expect to play through slow groups, no matter how many holes are empty in front. read more

A nice links course. Fast greens Lots of distance between greens and next tee box so Walking not advised. Riding carts are reasonable unless you rent a spectator cart to follow a grandson in yourh competition as I did. Then they rape you. ( $25 for nine holes; $38 for 18.) Might want to Bring your own drink and snacks. Snack bar prices are outrageous. $4.50 for a hot dog. $3 for a soft drink. read more

Longest Round in the world. Had a tee time at 1:20 and finished at 6:15. The club house let a foursome off the back nine that did not let us through that clogged up the course. I called the club house to send out a Marshall that never came. I called back after two holes of tedious waiting and was informed that the Marshall went home for the day. The greens were good and I shot a good score but I will never play there again because of the management. If you want to play golf in Lawrence try Alvamar, Eagle Bend does not care about its players, it's a city course with no passion for the sport. read more
