Driving through San Marcos, I would not have expected a little gem of a venue tucked away on a…read morehilltop garden. We attended a wedding this past weekend and it was a pretty easy drive to get there. The parking appears a bit tricky, but there are two entrances if you miss the first one haha. The second entrance is located right before the freeway entrance so it's conveniently located to nearby highways. The walkway from the parking lot leads you up some stairs and an incline slope that opens up to the green space where the ceremony was held. The grass is turf so if you wear heels, you shouldn't sink directly into it haha. The reception was held in a tented space with open air and the surrounding garden area had a few sections for guests to sprawl out. There was a water fountain, audio guestbook in a telephone booth, a photo booth van and some benches around the perimeter. The meal they served there was pretty good. Not sure if catering is directly tied to the venue, but we got the chicken and steak. Here are the descriptions of each: California Artisan Chicken Picatta Marinated chicken breast with lemon, herbs, caper beurre blanc. Chef's Harvest Roast USDA Choice Beef stuffed with roasted garlic , infused with Fresh Rosemary & Thyme, Rubbed with Whole Grain Mustard, and topped with a Mediterranean Style Olive Au Jus Sauce. Pretty solid option. The only thing I would caution is bring bug spray. Because the ceremony and reception was open air, I was eaten alive. Not sure if it's the humidity during that time, but I had multiple bug bites after I was here, lol. Other than that, the grounds are well maintained and space was intimate without feeling small.

They went above and WAY beyond to ensure our special day was perfect. My husband and I had the luxury of getting married last year at their location and our postponed reception this year. When planning our wedding we originally booked a different location, not knowing that Las Mariposas existed. We found Las Mariposas Estate and IMMEDIATELY fell in love. We threw all original plans out the window and booked at the estate in a heartbeat. Arleth and Mario, the venue owners, hosted a mixer where all vendors were present and it was the easiest decision, other than to marry each other, we have ever made. (You can bring your own vendors, but they picked a good set of vendors as recommendations). Their venue is stunning and their vendor recommendations are affordable and over the top amazing. I highly recommend Las Mariposas Estate to anyone and everyone. They are even growing their venue to include an amazing ballroom!! Thank you for everything, your hard work didn't go unnoticed one bit! We always thought the wedding process would be stressful, but Las Mariposas took the stress out of planning! Everyone is incredibly friendly, professional, and solution-oriented, with an impressive network of resources and vendor connections. From start to finish, it truly felt like the team had our backs on all fronts. Their level of care, organization, and professionalism made the planning process feel far less stressful. The property itself is absolutely stunning -- vast greenery, rolling vineyards, citrus trees, and the most incredible natural scenery. It even smells amazing on site! We were lucky enough to be one of the first couples to host our wedding at the new venue location after originally booking the former space, and we couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. We also loved that the space really provided a blank canvas and we had so much freedom to do whatever we wanted with the space. We brought in live music, churros, our own alcohol, our own caterer, and our own rentals so our vision was really able to come to life!! At first I was nervous about the 10pm cutoff but most outdoor venues in San Diego also comply with this rule and after actually going through a wedding as the bride I was exhausted by 10pm lol! The office manager was very easy to work with throughout the entire process. The vendor recommendations were awesome as well as I found a lot of great people that helped bring the party to life. My wedding had a total of 240 people which made me nervous but we fit comfortably in the space and there was room for more. Overall great experience and great views!

She toured the venue with us, answering all of our questions the day of and afterwards. She was quick to respond and very friendly throughout the entire time. Shoutout to Tiffany as well, who was able to help us out on the day of the event, and helped to bar tend. The venue itself is also such a fun space, with fun accents, such as the live plant wall and the fun tap handles. We created a Spotify playlist that we were able to play using the venue speakers, and we even used the projector screen that they had to play our Nintendo Switch games during the welcome party. Street parking was plentiful and our guests ended up loving the venue as well. We would highly recommend the Woodshed for anyone looking for a fun space to host a gathering or party!

There were at least six guests who requested vegan meals and were served a simple curry over rice. The salad was not vegan, the dessert was not vegan, and even the vegetables were cooked in butter, making them unsuitable as well. Meanwhile, other guests had multiple dish options to choose from. For such a high end wedding venue, the lack of consideration for dietary restrictions was extremely disappointing. The food overall felt like the weakest part of an otherwise beautiful experience, and it is the only reason I would hesitate to recommend this venue.
