We had a great time for the murder mystery weekend with our kids and would definitely come back for the murder mystery weekend. Not sure if we would come back for more than a weekend as they're renovating so a lot of the activities were unavailable during our stay and the kids would potentially get bored however would absolutely consider bringing the kids back again for a weekend once renovation is complete.

On July 7, 2024 we had our wedding at the Clubhouse at the Villa Roma and everything went perfectly. Cheryl Dunne and her staff were amazing we couldn't be any happier with the service. The food was delicious and we received many compliments on it. We would also like to thank the bar staff they were great also. The Wedding Cake looked amazing and tasted great and was also made by the Villa Roma baker and we cannot thank her enough. The Wedding took a lot of planning and Cheryl was there whenever we needed her, so if you are thinking of a place to have your wedding that is beautiful, with delicious food, and excellent service we highly recommend the Villa Roma! Thank you all, Sara and Luis Alvarez

Pack a nice outfit for dinner, bathing suit, your toiletries and a couple tops and bottoms. A little cash for tips and some off the cuff fun games. The rest is card only or you can bill to your room. That is all you need to enjoy Villa Roma. We stayed in the hotel, on the Futura wing. Rooms were far enough back to be peaceful and had a small balcony perfect for the free morning coffee (in the morning at 7:30am across from the elevators, main floor). We had the all inclusive plan which provided a wristband. Included was most activities, as well as breakfast and dinner in the main dining room on the third floor. Food: so good. See the pictures. I was shocked. You know how lunch wasn't included ? Well I wasted a lb of coldcuts I brought with me because dinner is a feast! Portions are epic and the food is delicious. You'll be having your left overs for lunch the next day. Drinks besides water are not included so bring up your room card or credit card if you'd like some wine. Breakfast, it's a buffet. It's pancakes, cinnamon French toast, eggs, potatoes, danish, oatmeal, juices, pastries and an omelet bar. Entertainment- I was lucky enough to be there on one of the nights Keith Doughtery's production of, "The Souprano's: Villa Roma or Bust," was performed in the forum. Soo hilarious and interactive ! I mean, belly laughs! The next day he also led the sip n paint. My daughter is non verbal and I was really worried about meeting her sensory needs on this trip. There is an entire inflatable bounce room yall! She loved it! We played in the kiddie pool area. Then we went to the game room to do the craft (she made a visor) which was very nice. Also the game room has a smaller play area for the toddlers, she was a bit too small for the big slides in the playground (she caught some radical air though!). Everyone I spoke with was a Villa Roma regular, ready to share stories and experiences. One of the highlights was a dance party at night on the mezzanine (personally my favorite area, have an espresso martini and look out on the entire property from the balcony). My parents came with us and did the zip line, archery and lounged by the pool. We just got back and are thinking about Christmas time...

All the beauty we have seen so far. Oh and the hallway with the rooms smells like a hospital

This place is horrid. We paid $600 for the night and I feel like I'm in a 1980's sitcom. One thing is worse than the next. All the so called activities are across the street. They have an arcade that is nasty along with a completely empty area. It is depressing at best. The bowling alley has 6 lanes and was closed for the employees dinner. The bounce house area is about 20 degrees. There are no employees everywhere. We are here now and if I could drive in the dark I would be headed home. Do not come here. Please - it is a disgrace

Stayed mid-May for a quiet getaway with my husband. The resort needs an upgrade.. the gym was sad, and landscaping is non-existent. However, hanging said that, if you're looking for a place to chill and you have little ones, this might work for you. Indoor and outdoor pool (outdoor opens Memorial Day week) , bowling on premises, raceway, nightly entertainment and a great place to eat also on-site And more importantly to me, it was CLEAN and everyone was friendly and helpful. Not much to do in town but we did watch a movie and had dinner in town at Callicoon Brewing restaurant ( do not recommend)

"No Signal". That's the best we can get in this room.

Cool place but needs updating. Food was great. Employees were very friendly. We met some nice people. Loved seeing the deer.

The resort is nestled in the Catskills surrounded by lush greenery and the smell of nature. The property is beautiful, very clean, and has that cozy modern woodsy aesthetic. It's perfect for a weekend getaway or if you just want to escape in nature for a couple of days. On the map the property looks huge, but everything is pretty quick to walk to. Our room was so lovely, and there is no TV which really gets you to be disconnected. There is a huge pool, with floaties and a truck side bar which was closed but is open on the weekends. There's also a sauna and gym which is overlooking the views of green hills. There is a nice lounge/communal area next to the cafe/reception where you can hangout and play all sorts of board games and have a nice drink. Outside there is also a covered area with a ping pong table, giant jenga, and connect 4. Each night they have a fire pit, weather permitting with smores. One of the nights it was raining so sadly no fire pits for smores, one of the staff members was so kind to heat up some smores for us and some other guests and it was nice to just have that little treat to make up for the weather. You can explore the beautiful grounds, where on a short walk across the road is their barn where they host weddings, a large pond, and if you walk further down you'll find yourself next to a stream. All the staff were so friendly and accomodating. I imagine it's more busy on the weekends especially when their pool bar and on site restaurant is open. It was a magical place. Can't wait to come back again.

It is amazing how much fun you can truly have when you eliminate the distractions that can keep you from living in the present. Our room looked and felt serene. There were no TVs or phones. We were shocked but we knew that it would motivate us to explore the property and quaint town. Callicoon Hills was picturesque with units in buildings scattered across the 23-acre property. We stayed in the Pool House, which was close to the Rise & Grind Coffee Shop and the Conover Club in the Boarding House (the activity hub). Jessica was super helpful with helping us get settled in. Ooh, you will love the hot chocolate. I wish we made the time to sit by the bonfire pits for nightly s'mores. I appreciated the thoughtfulness behind the complimentary blankets. As working moms on different levels, we were eager to try the yoga class together. Our instructor, Kyle, put us at ease by fostering a safe, judgment-free environment. We laughed a lot as we realized our physical limitations yet did our best with modifications, of course. Full disclosure: I am afraid of heights. So I was nervous about climbing an incline to the gym (aka the impromptu cardio workout) but wanted to try a Peloton bike. Sadly, I was better off staying on the ground level. Brrr...the heaters will take a while to warm up the space. Following the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, there were hand sanitizers, wipes, or sprays to clean the equipment or mats before and after use. If you are not already a Peloton subscriber, the bikes require a credit card to initiate a trial subscription. Bummer, I had no cards on hand. So I kept it to the usual -- a stationary bike and treadmill. I do not recommend arriving at night, because it was a scary drive -- with highs, lows, and limited signage. Thankfully, we had an experienced driver at the wheel to ensure we arrived safely while I managed my anxiety. The daylight drives were amazing yet nerve-wracking lol. With a few minor improvements, I do not see why we would not visit again in the summer or fall to enjoy the pool and foliage. I will stay local and they can explore the hiking trails lol.

The mexican corn is popular with the locals so I got it to try! And it didn't disappoint! The corn was sweet corn and paired with the white sauce was very tasty. This one is a lot more filling than the rest so I would definitely share it with more than 1-2 people! It's good to pair this with other pizzas. We paired this one with the farm pizza and that one had peppers like peperoncini with tasty sausage and that cut the creaminess of the corn pizza which was perfect and it had a tart sour taste that left me wanting more! It takes them about 20 minutes to make each pizza but it's so cool you can see them popping pizzas in a brick oven in the middle of nature. We had a beer flight and got to taste all of the beers and the one cider they had and I loved all of them! My favorite was definitely their TIPA because it was strong but the taste was fresh. - THE RESTAURANT/AMBIANCE - The area they were situated in was rolling hills of grass and felt very serene and calmed me down immediately. Lots of great people and you can bring your own dogs and I even saw someone bringing their own goats! Remember to bring a stake with a line for them to run around since they need to be leashed. Super dog friendly and welcoming. - CAMP EXPERIENCE - Ron was amazing and the courtesy of bringing our camping gear with a tractor to our campsite was a smooth process and he was such a cool guy to talk to! The campsite was really nice and tucked away from others and we had a picnic table and a fire pit. It started to rain and we saw lightning and thunder in the sky so we went to go to our car. They had the restaurant opened for safety so tons of campers went to the restaurant for cover and I think this place really is great for a camping site that has iffy weather conditions when you don't know if it will rain or shine because you'll always have a place to go (with beer!) There were tons of stars in the sky after the rain died down and we enjoyed our night at the campsite. The morning after we took a shower at the outdoor shower and that felt amazing. Even though it was right next to the donkeys it didn't smell like a farm. I think they clean it pretty well and it felt almost luxurious to be bathing outside with hot water. It had a soap bar but I would still bring your own, they don't come with a body wash or anything. They do have a mirror but it was quite foggy. It's about a 10 minute walk to the showers but a really nice one! I would definitely come back with more people since it's group and dog friendly! I had a blast!

French Woods Golf & Country Club - Lil night golf on #5

French Woods Golf & Country Club

(2 reviews)

I'm hesitant to leave a review here because this place has long been viewed by our group of friends…read moreas a hidden gem, and we'd like to keep it hidden. But if any place deserves recognition for doing everything right, it's the incredible people who make French Woods a home away from home. It started as a place where a dozen friends, living around the metropolitan area, could spend a weekend golfing, drinking, and telling stories around a campfire. It quickly morphed into something much more. To start, the golf course offers what city courses never could; a round in under 5 hours, wide open fairways, and no sounds other than the sounds of nature and the occasional expletive from an errant shot. The fact that cabins, which are more like 2 story homes, are located right on the course, provides an unparalleled convenience and comfort. All of this can be found through a simple google search. What google couldn't tell you, is the unmatched hospitality by the owner, Russell, and everyone who makes the clubhouse feel like a family waiting to greet you at the turn. Linda and Angie are always there to give you a good ribbing based on how terrible you looked off the first tee. But they're also there to walk you through the days specials, which never cease to feel like the best home cooked meal you've had in ages. Google also couldn't tell you quite how it feels to tee the ball up on the elevated 16th hole. To look around at the beautiful landscape and think "you know, it just doesn't get any better than this." Nor what it feels like to tee a second one up when you inevitably slice that first one into the woods trying to drive the green. It couldn't tell you that feeling you get taking a hot shower after playing 36 holes, cracking a cold beer and stepping outside to the campfire being assembled with the delivered quarts of wood courtesy of the O'Malley boys. It couldn't tell you that after sharing stories around the fire and passing around a bottle of whiskey, that if you laid down in the cool grass, you could see the clearest sky filled with stars. It couldn't tell you that drinking beer all day and killing a bottle of Jameson at the campfire would make it difficult to make your 8:30 tee time you promised Linda you'd make. Nor could it tell you that luckily the screwdrivers and bloody Marys in the clubhouse are made with magical elixirs that help pull a man back together just in time to slice your opening drive into the reeds on the first hole. Better make sure to grab a breakfast sandwich too, you'll need it around the third hole. It certainly could not tell you about the agony these vicious greens sometimes impart. It certainly would leave out what it's like to hit your tee shot over the water of the par 3 9th as the rest of your group watches on with cheers and jeers. It wouldn't be able to explain being up by 1 heading into the 18th hole only to see your tee shot land directly in the pond on the right side of the fairway. All of these need to be discovered for yourself. For our group, which has ballooned to upwards of 24 people at times, it's that treatment like we're family that keeps us coming back. We'll continue to try and make new memories and build upon our current traditions such as our Ryder cup and classic cup tournaments, the barefoot two club walking holes as the sun goes down, the tradition unlike any other of shotgunning a beer on the 7th (and 16th hole), the s'mores mix around the fire, the big kevs bbq on Friday nights, and the runs around beautiful French woods in honor of our beloved Jeff Garroway. We've come to love this place, and everyone who makes it what it is. Forever grateful, The Bender Boys
