Tammy, the owner, is incredibly rude and she's a liar. I stayed at Central House for my cousin's wedding. Tammy practically met me at my car interrogating me about if I had spoken with the bride because she owed her money, as if that's any of my business. I'm not the only guest she met in this manner. When I called to book my room, she told me there was one room left and it had a queen bed. I told her that would not work for me, my daughter and granddaughter and suddenly, there was a room available with two twins. That was fine, we brought a pack n play for the baby. One room on one side of us and two rooms on the other side were empty both nights we stayed so I guess she must have had last minute cancellations. I think it's more likely she lied about how full the resort was when I called. We arrived after 12 hours on the road and just wanted to take showers and go to bed but there was no hot water. I called the desk and Tammy's immediately response was, "Well, no one else has complained. You just have to let it run for a little bit." We had let it run for 10 minutes. We timed it. So we went to bed dirty (the beds were hard as rocks, literally like sleeping on the ground) and asked to have someone look into it while we were at breakfast the next morning (we had to go into town because it's not provided). Fred came into our room and "got water so hot he could barely run his hand under it." Apparently 12 minutes is the length of time it takes for the heat. We were put room 602 which is a handicapped room. But there's only a shower, no tub, with no lip to keep water in. So we had to give the baby a bath in another cousin's room and the entire floor in the bathroom was soaked and very slippery. We used the bath mat and one of the towels to soak up some of the water and when we asked for a couple more towels at the office we were told we would have to bring the wet towels to trade them in or wait for housekeeping. There is black mold where the shower floor meets the tile of the bathroom floor. I reached to turn on the lamp to change a diaper when the baby woke in the middle of the night and the socket was pulled completely out of the stem of the lamp. And I have heard of hotels flipping sheets inside out instead of washing them between customers but have never witnessed it until this weekend. The sheets on my bed were inside out. Tammy is such a stickler, I can hardly believe her housekeeping staff isn't drilled on how to dress a bed properly. The wedding was nice, beautiful. However, there were not enough places set for dinner. I called her to ask if she would set up another table and she outright refused. She told one of the bridesmaids she couldn't do it because of fire codes. She told me it just would not be done. Then she yelled at me that I was ruining my cousin's wedding because she was going to have to interrupt her pictures to talk to her about the seating. She blamed the bride for not having made a seating chart. We took 8 chairs from a corner and squeezed them in at tables already set and they did eventually set up a 4 top table in the corner of which all seats were filled. My cousin was told places would be set only for people who RSVP'd. I doubt 12 people showed up who had not RSVP'd but that was Tammy's story. The food was bland and mediocre. The staff were very nice, aside from the woman from the kitchen who came out into the room to tell one cousin's husband that his wife was rude because she went into the kitchen asking where we could find chairs. When I was on the phone with Tammy about the chairs and mentioned the 1 star review I was writing in my head, she said, "Oh that's nice. Come on back!" I told her I most certainly will not and I don't ever plan to break my word. She is incredibly rude and unaccommodating. Reading other reviews, it seems like she has regulars that she caters to and everyone else is just someone to get money from. She is very much all about the money.

Beautiful lake available for guest to swim, paddle boat, fish etc.

I can see why family members continue to return and make this place a yearly vacation spot. This amazing small property is well maintained and staff do their best to accommodate guest needs. Resort packages are well priced. Management and staff arranged daily activities for entire family to be able to participate. Property has a well kept pool and hot tub. They do not offer pool towels, so bring your own towels from home. There's a wonderful little park and basketball court for kids to play. A lovely deck area to sit and take in the beautiful scenery of the lake and surrounding. You can also paddle board, swim and fish in the lake. Rooms could use updating just on small things; furniture, rug and bed spread. Beds were comfy, only 2 pillows per bed. A/C worked well. But with all the available activities you wont be in your room. Food was good and there was plenty of it. It's a pre-fix menu, at set meal times, served family style; breakfast, lunch and dinner. As for my reason for not giving this place a 5 star review was because staff became overwhelmed, we did have to ask for things more than once but did their best to ensure our request were fulfilled . Second, because its a pre-fix menu no other options for your meals...you get what you are served. Definitely recommend this place for families!!

Great time in the hot tub

Drinks by the pool only two hours from NY. Great hot to to relax in too. My family has been coming here for over 40 years. Can't beat the price for the amount of service they provide.

Had our 55th class reunion there in September 2024. Food, staff and Tammy and Fred were outstanding! Everything was top shelf.

Lightly breaded and fried. Yummy. Did need salt but otherwise well made. Main was their burger. So good! Juicy and flavorful. The onion jam was delicious. Their wine selection is very good. Get the flight. It's a really good deal and you can try 3 different wines. Service was quick and food came out fast and hot. Others noted the prices a a little high but the food was really good.

The Settlers Inn is a historic Arts & Craft Lodge that was built in Hawley, Pennsylvania in 1927…read more It was founded by local citizens in Hawley. Shortly after the completion of Lake Wallenpaupack (a man-made lake), local businessmen believed that tourists would come to see it and they raised funds to build a grand hotel known as the 'Hawley Community Hotel'. When the building was nearly finished, the stock market crashed and it sat empty for 20 years. It officially opened to the public in 1947 and went through several owners. It served as a nursing home, an inn, and even a private school. Since 1980, the inn has been owned and operated by hospitality experts Jeanne and Grant Genzlinger who dubbed it 'The Settlers Inn'. The on-site restaurant and Chestnut Tavern offer farm-to-table menus highlighting quality products of local farms and purveyors. Kate Woehrle is the current executive chef. The inn has been a member of Historic Hotels of America since 2010. My family and I recently visited The Settlers Inn while we were spending Memorial Day weekend in the Poconos. The timing of our visit coincided with their Memorial Day Brunch. The beautiful hotel had a spacious dining room that even featured live music from a piano player. To drink, I ordered the "Settlers Inn Bloody Mary" (blue cheese olives, alpine beef stick, aged cheddar, dilly beans, pepperoncini, celery). This was a great brunch cocktail! Our server brought us some delicious complimentary Brewer's Bread for the table. For the appetizer course, I had the "Smoked Trout Dip" and my wife had the "Black Pepper Ricotta Toast" (asparagus, cured egg yolk). We were both happy with our choices. For the entree course, I had the "Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict" (potato pancakes), my wife had the "Crispy Chicken Sammy" (coleslaw, brioche, roasted jalapeño aioli), and our son had the "Birthday Cake French Toast". Everything was excellent and tasted so fresh! For dessert, our server told us to help ourselves to the dessert table which featured fresh baked goods like cookies and cannoli. We had a fantastic brunch at the Settlers Inn and would definitely return on a future visit to the Poconos!

They even had a live singer performing, which added a great vibe to the visit. We shared a pizza while doing our tasting, and it paired nicely with the wines. The wines were good overall, though not quite enough for us to buy a bottle. One of the wines seemed like it was starting to turn, but the rest were enjoyable. Despite that, we still had a lovely time. It's a cute stop if you're passing through and want to unwind with some music, food, and a laidback winery experience.

I made table reservations online for $20 (you get to choose a 3 hour block of time) -- and while it probably wasn't necessary the day we went, if the weather is warmer on a weekend, I'm guessing you'll need it! Minimal food available for purchase, but you can do tastings, flights, wine by the glass or bottles and are allowed to bring outside food and decorations (just not outside alcohol). Price point is reasonable, and we enjoyed a bottle of Cayuga white while overlooking the vines and fields. Peaceful venue, not fancy and kid friendly (which was a plus for us) and we appreciated being allowed to relax and enjoy the fresh air and wine! My husband enjoyed the red flight -- and while not the kind of wine that will knock your socks off, it's an unpretentious place and perfect for enjoying with loved ones.
