My family came here for vacation because we wanted to be out of the hustle and bustle of Cancun. Holy crap am I glad we picked this place. Okay, I can't take any credit for it. My wife found it, decided on it, and booked it. Nice job.
Sure, a lot of people go to the all-inclusive resorts in the area. And they are beautiful and make vacations simple. But they are so...corporate. So sanitized. There is nothing wrong with that if that's what you're looking for. But if you're looking for a little more of the 'local' experience, the Villa Mariposa is probably right for you.
The house is beautiful. Three bedrooms, which are perfect for two adult couples and two kids (twin beds in the third bedroom). Tons of room. There is a caretaker couple on site who could literally not be nicer. And the owner is amazing as well.
But the killer thing about this place is that it is literally right on the beach. I'm not kidding - 10 steps takes you from the deck to the water. There are also two balconies overlooking the water, and a roof deck. The ocean here is sheltered by a reef that acts as a breakwater so swimming, kayaking and snorkeling is perfect.
The house is an easy 10 minute drive to Tulum and a little over an hour to Cancun. Lots of historic ruins, beautiful resorts and various attractions abound.
Don't worry, there are plenty of amenities here. The caretakers will clean every day for you. They'll take care of laundry. They'll even cook for you if you want. But there are a couple of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Plus grocery stores (and many other restaurants) in Tulum or Playa del Carmen.
This house is amazing. The neighborhood is amazing. The nearby towns are amazing. The nearby attractions are amazing. And the caretakers and owner are amazing. This place is one of the very, VERY few places I would give more than 5 stars if I could. No kidding. read more
