For years, we stayed at all-inclusive resorts, but recently turned in favor of more off-the-beaten path properties that afford you the chance to explore the city a little bit more, since meals aren't available 24/7. We found a nice house on VRBO that ended up being managed by Playacar Vacation Rentals. You'll find it on their website as Casa Stavola / F8. It was a perfect beachfront property located in Playcar Phase I that housed six of us! With a pool, full kitchen, large living room and lots of amenities, I couldn't have asked for anything more. Our place was well situated to the rest of town but felt very quiet the second you entered the Phase I complex. We arranged our own transportation from the airport but upon arriving to the house, I had to make my way to the vacation rental office to pick up the key. Citlaly was so welcoming and willing to help with whatever we needed. From excursions to taxi pickups, they can do it all. We used them to rent a boat one afternoon and everything went flawlessly. The properties themselves are very well managed. There is cleaning service every other day, they provide big jugs of drinking water regularly, staff is around to take care of anything that may break and, all in all, it feels very safe. We are hoping to make this a yearly trip and I imagine us returning to the same exact spot! Really wouldn't change a thing.

Now having stayed in the Tulum area in a few different methods- we enjoyed each in a different way…read more Here at LPM, as everyone has said, the welcome was warm and informative. Tom explained via a personalized drawn map of the area- including taxi pricing, favorite restaurants and tips for activities- and all turned out to be very helpful. Checked in to the treehouse suite, which was good size for us plus our 6 year old. Room includes hot water, fresh water bottles, a safe and plenty of large fans- the fans (during out November stay) were perfectly great to chill down at night- even needing a light jacket in the early morning. On the down side, we are used to the nature and the bugs, that is why we come down here of course, and critters are part of it- so if staying on the jungle side, expect to see more ants and things. My main criticism was the gas smell that came through the windows at busy times of the day- because of the generators pumping and the constant taxis outside, the gasoline did bother me. However, the positives well outweighed any negative- we spent most our time out on the beach of Maalix- they were hospitable, we ate and drank in their bar and they were more than happy to accommodate us. Also spent time cooking in LPM's kitchen, which was a welcome bonus of staying in LPM. Pick up a few staples on your way in from town at Chedruai or borrow a bike from LPM and swing over to pick up fruit, veggies, breakfast items, juices, butter, milk etc... Aside from cooking in the communal kitchen- you can find great fresh lobster and fish next door at Simple, yummy brick oven pizza at La Onda about 6 shops down - and then keep going, your options of bars and tacos on the beach are endless. The location, if you want to stay out of the fray of people, even the beaches down on this side are quieter than further north near the town and shops. All in All, it's great that you can pretty much feel free to enjoy the property and the area; no one bothers you about rules and regulations on the beach, as long as you are respectful. We felt safe and well cared for. OH! Try the fresh fruit plate from their cafe in the front on the street side, a wide variety of fresh cut fruits- delicious granola and yogurt. We will be back next time we venture down to southern Quintana Too!

Tom is a superb host and goes above and beyond ensuring his guests are well taken care of. Daily housekeeping service was a nice & unexpected bonus. We had fresh towels (one for beach & one for bath), filtered drinking water, and an onsite communal kitchen area for cooking & hanging out. Enjoyed delicious food and friendly service at the onsite restaurant. Malika and staff are great. The accommodations exceeded my expectations, and I slept well every night in the treetop suite. 24/7 electricity & AC avail from 8p-5a. Great showers thanks to strong water pressure & hot/cold water. Easy breezy beach access directly across the street via La Eufemia. Parking avail for our compact rental car-- which was a real "amenity" considering beach road has very limited parking options. What comes to mind when you think of a tropical vacation?…read more Azure blue water and white sand beaches? Thatched roofs? Palm trees? Palapas with hammocks? Friendly, laid-back guesthouse hosts? This place has those things. It's what you want. Do you really want to fly all the way down to the tip of Mexico to hang out with elevnty-billion other Americans? Hell fuck no. You come here to carve out a slice of serenity. Warm, sandy, sticky serenity. Casas Del Corazon offers a strong chill vibe. Located on Soliman Bay, just a few clicks north of Tulum, this is the place to go to be removed from the action, but close enough to enjoy restaurants, etc. But during the day, the beach is yours. Corazon consists of a few casas of varying sizes. Adobe walls, thatched roofs, plantation blinds with screens, ceiling fans, some A/C, kitchens in units, a small pool, nice palapas, kayaks and SUP boards for use, and a lot of time to do a whole lot of nothing. The hosts here are friendly and laid back. From Virginia, they made the right choice. Buy property on the beach, bail out, and live the life. They were present to assist us but not up in our business. Perfect balance. Plenty of good advice and lots of resources. Accommodations are comfortable. Not luxury, but just the kind of thing we wanted. We could open the blinds at night and let the breeze blow through the room. Our kitchen was stocked out and ready to rock. And if you want to pay, they have someone who can come in and cook dinner for you. You can see my main downside to this place in my review of Soliman Bay itself, but as far as the accommodations themselves, I loved the mix of traditional, rustic and modern. Just writing this makes me want to go back!

Some owners handle rentals themselves, in which case, you typically have to search on VRBO or ABNB by # bedrooms, location, price etc. Several of the units are now managed/rented via Your Property Solutions Puerto Morelos, Sharon Webb. The building is BEAUTIFUL, best location on the beach in our opinion. 10 min beach walk to the town square, grocery store, restaurants etc. There are beach clubs nearly next door if you want a bit more action/energy. Units have fully equipped kitchens. We usually have breakfast "at home", lunch on the beach (beach bar or beach food vendors) & dinner out, so many great restaurants in walking distance. Not a party place, but wonderful base for couples/friends to relax, enjoy the beach, pool & lovely town.

A great place, especially for families with kids…read more These condo-style places are right at the beach. Although the beach here is sandy, there are lots of submerged rocks, a 15 minute walk up the beach brings you to good snorkeling territory. There's a kiddy pool for little ones and a bigger pool to keep older kids entertained. You can stock your kitchen at the Super-Ched market 15 minutes up the carretera. The restaurant has limited selection, but is inexpensive and everything is good. A bottle of Pacifico with chips and guac go down pretty nicely with the ocean view in the afternoon. The small village of Akumal is a 15 minute walk north. Tasty ice cream and yummy pastries can be found at the Turtle Bay Cafe. The city of Tulum is 25 min south, were you'll find Mayan ruins, bars and restaurants and tourist kitch. Just south of Akumal is Aktun Chen a "natural park" with caves, swimming in a cenote and zip-lines. We went for a week and didn't want to leave. We hope to go back next year!

From the minute we got there, we were mesmerized by the beauty of the ocean, the gorgeous house and the enchanting feeling we got walking in the door. We stayed in the Penthouse and had full access to the entire property; the beach, the pool, the lounge area, the water toys and the hammock (my favorite!). There is someone onsite the entire time for anything you need, they offer cleaning and cooking services but all we really needed were clean towels and they were provided in a timely manner. We did very little touristy stuff because none of us wanted to leave this slice of heaven, aside from food, and obviously, beer runs, we hardly left the property; and I'm sure speak for everyone that was there, we have no regrets about that! Our vacation was right after the untimely death of our beloved bulldog and to our surprise, there were two dogs onsite that brought much needed comfort to us, thank you Wolly and Negrita for that, you're both now forever in my heart. For anyone looking for the best, most relaxing vacation, I highly recommend Casa Chanty! I promise, you will not regret it.

The pool is beautiful, you can literally jump into the pool from the living room. The architecture is outstanding, the main house is super cool, not for kids though many sharp edges. The apartment is very modern, the location could not be better, situated in the most prestige area of Playa del Carmen, near a golf course and tropical forest with many animals. The lively street 5th Avenue is in 5-10 min walking. The beach is in walking distance (10 min) and we saw a lot of amazing wildlife and even Maya ruins on our way there.
