Smoky Chicken That Needs No Sauce!…read more We popped into Papi's Peruvian Chicken on a Sunday, hoping to beat the church crowd, but it turns out, the real blessing was waiting inside. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, my buddy leaned over and said, "Man, someone's smoking something and it smells delicious." When we stepped inside, his grin got even bigger as he turned to me and said, "It's this place, great choice!" We both went for the smoked dark quarter with street corn salad. My buddy chose green beans, and I went with the Inca pork beans. I asked the woman at the counter to recommend a sauce, and she took the time to explain each one, patiently answering all my basic questions. It turns out, the chicken didn't need any sauce at all. It was smoky, moist, and packed with flavor--crispy on the outside with a deep, wood-fired taste that lingered with every bite. The Inca pork beans were hearty and full of flavor, a solid sidekick to the main event. The street corn salad, while fresh, could have used a bit more kick--maybe a sprinkle of cheese or a dash of lime to brighten it up. The interior's industrial strip mall vibe is functional but could benefit from a few authentic touches--like Peruvian art or music--to match the rich flavors coming out of the kitchen. If you're craving smoky, fall-off-the-bone chicken, Papi's Peruvian Chicken is worth the trip. I'll definitely be back to try more!
