The Shrimp Antonio is a spicy and tangy masterpiece that I believe is the same as Shrimp Mozambique other than size and lack of rice. But even though it's an app it's quite large. The fried sardines, relatively hard to find, are superb. The peppers offered an intriguing counterpoint to the intense oceanic blast.

The food is authentic, the patrons were all speaking Portuguese and the portions are generous. Priced very competitively, maybe even less than others given the quality of the food. Service was quick and attentive. We ordered the Bife à Tronqueira, a sirloin steak in creamy garlic mustard sauce, served with an egg on top (very Portuguese) homemade chips and rice. We also got one of the best Carne Alentejana I've ever had, including in Portugal. Pan fried pork chunks with little neck clams and fried potatoes in a savory sauce topped with peppers and olives. Absolutely to die for. Can't recommend this place enough.

Friends and I were going to have a birthday dinner for me. They said tough luck. No reservation, no dinner. Is that hospitality? Heck no. It is, "We're so successful that we can afford to reject people." So avoid this place. Go to a restaurant that actually cares about not just their apparent abundance of regulars but also people who want to have a celebratory dinner at their restaurant because it is supposed to be good. And ignore the recommendation on the New Bedford tourist sites. Those recommendations fail to acknowledge what apparently the restaurant management believes is unimportant but which they use to reject customers. That is, if you don't make a reservation, you might as well go fishing for your own food in the New Bedford harbor.

My only suggestion would be to serve it with a spoon so you can mix the cider into the Prosecco a little more. I ordered the Eggs Benedict Mozambique and it was really good. The flavors were amazing, although I do wish there was a little more sauce. My friend got the chouriço and cheese roll, split and toasted on the grill, and it looked just as good. We also grabbed two coffees to go and tried the pumpkin fluff special. Both coffees were delicious and honestly didn't even need any added sweetener. The restaurant itself is really cute and has a cozy feel. Parking isn't the easiest, so just be prepared for that. The bathrooms were okay, but I'd give them about a 3/5. Our waitress was very attentive in the beginning, and I think she could tell we were there to catch up and weren't in any rush, which I appreciated. There's also some outdoor seating, which looked really cute on the cobblestone street. It was wet and a little too early for us to sit outside, but I could definitely see myself enjoying it another time. Overall, I'd definitely recommend Tia Mariah and will be back to try more of the menu!
