Avoid, avoid, avoid! This previous week, I walked into a business I've never patronized before, hoping to find a new place that can handle some of my assortment of wild, wooly, and downright odd sewing machines. What I found was a dark shadow of the past slipped in with cute signs and family photos that told me I was not welcome there. They did not want my custom. At all. What set me off to the point that I felt the need to make an account here and warn everyone who's willing to read my review about the proprietors of Viking Sewing Center? That would be the prominently displayed photos of an SS officer, decked out in his death's head and double lightning bolts, complete with the red armband. Anyone with eyes and a soul sees that photo, knows it's wrong, and the smart ones turn around and walk away. I'm drawing a blank as to how this shop stays in business. It doesn't matter if they do good work. They might have the best prices and customer service in the known universe, but that can never take the place of a first impression that insinuates that the world would be better without me and others like me in it. This isn't a trivial gripe and shouldn't be overlooked because there is nothing funny about Nazis. As a mixed-race person, I find things like this about as trivial as an aortic rupture. read more

This is my go-to place for my serger and sewing machine maintenance and repair. They are friendly, courteous, and reliable.

I took my sewing machine in and was told I'd have it back in 2 weeks. Two weeks go by. I call and I'm told they hadn't gotten to it yet. That it would be another week. Another week goes by. I call and I'm told that they STILL hadn't gotten to it yet, that it will be another week. I went and picked it up to take elsewhere. If they are that poor at the simple task of estimating the backlog, how poor are they at the actual repair? read more

Had a terrible experience here with my grandma this afternoon. She was picking up her sewing machine that she had dropped off for repair and asked me to tag along with her as she was running errands. I am mixed race, my grandma is white. She has always had good experiences here in the past, the only thing different this time was my presence with her. She said this time they were noticeably not as friendly to us. In addition, no one in the store wore masks, and we were informed that as they have chosen to be a "mask free zone" they were fined by the city and are taking donations to help pay that. They also have these Nazi posters up depicting Governor Jay Inslee. As a woman of color, I don't care what your political affiliation is, nazi jokes are NOT funny. We will not be returning here in the future. read more

This is a wonderful business with wonderful people working there. They are knowledgeable and considerate. I had one sewing machine repaired a 50s Necchi, it looks and runs like new. I also bought a new Viking. Mike the salesman took his time to explain about the machine and this shop offers free lessons. Will continue to do business there. read more

Please don't judge this awesome service center based on a few Yelp comments against them just because this family owned-business proudly displays photos of their ancestors whose place in history might offend current delicate sensibilities. Those ancestors loved, were loved and the facts of their timeline in history has nothing to do with the value of this current business. My family has had an ongoing relationship with this business since the 70's when my mother first purchased a quality machine from them. She received the best service, got great lessons and had her machine kept in top condition thanks to this business. It was such a good experience that I purchased a Viking and have always had it serviced here while I've lived in the Spokane area. They are trustworthy, professional and absolutely KNOW the machines. Further, the next generation carries this business forward and offers not only machine servicing and sales but also long-arm machine training and rental. They are truly poised to continue to be a vital part of the sewing community here in the Spokane area. read more

Since the Sewing Machine Repair shop in my own town of Moses Lake, WA closed a year ago, I had to find a repair shop out of town. So, I took my 30+ year old Viking 180 sewing machine to this shop after 4:00 pm on Thursday, March 22, 2018. I was expecting to have to leave it for a couple of weeks, but within 15 minutes, it was taken apart before my eyes, repaired (the belt was off and a little disc broken), cleaned (several years of lint build up), and tested for a cost of just $14.95 plus tax! I didn't have an appointment, but I did call a week before to say that I would be bringing it in for repair because after I broke a needle, it stopped running. In the 15 minutes of time that it took, I had a delightful conversation with the owner and two employees. I also got some tips, so that the same thing doesn't happen again. If I could give zero stars, I would! Purchased a machine that was obviously defective (I had proof), I asked for a refund and was rudely told that was not going to happen. Their store does not post anywhere stating no refunds. The owner very rudely stated that he does not have to disclose that. Their receipt also does not state a return policy. Do not shop here. The Viking store inside JoAnn's Fabrics in North Spokane - 5 mile area is the place to go. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff and they go out of their way to earn your business. read more
