The One Star rating is for the long wait on a Monday night! When we ordered our food just past 9pm (after commuting/flying for close to 10 hours, we were hungry). There were only two other tables of diners, who had ordered and were finishing their meals. The meals ordered above are not exotic. We waited for almost 35-40 mins when I noticed a big tour group arrive at the restaurant. As we were seated outside on the sidewalk, I walked into restaurant and realized buffet dishes had been set out for this group. I spotted our waiter who then went to the kitchen, and says our meals will be coming out shortly. Later, the waiter admitted that the kitchen was preparing for the tour group before us. If he had me this known to us, we would have gone to another restaurant. Finally, this restaurant didn't even offer to comp part of the bill or offer dessert. They do NOT understand nor practise customer service. p/s. Even the tour guide was surprised at how long we waited and commented it shouldn't have taken that long to serve us. There were no other diners after that hour besides us and the big tour group. Re food, I will give 3 Stars.

But to our surprise, it was closed despite it saying it was open online. So we decided to check out dosa because indian food was our backup. The moment we entered we were greeted by a lovely interior and a woman brought us to our seats. Now I will admit I was a bit skeptical about this place after seeing the yelp reviews. Moments later our waiter Gaurov (sorry if I missed spelled it) came up and walked us through the menu. He was very formal, professional, and charming. He was incredibly thoughtful in his food recommendations, asking us what we usually liked and how spicy we wanted our food. Coming from a Mexican background, we enjoy spicy foods. We ordered the chicken madara which did not disappoint. The sauce was a perfect thickness that complimented how tenderness of the chicken. The garlic naan was fluffy inside...a must have for sure. In addition, we ordered their house special; I highly recommend the dosa chef special. I will admit it may look intimidating but sometimes you have to abandon all sorts of formality to enjoy a good dish. Overall what from what I have learned about eating here is one to never judge a book by its cover, and two this 20+ year family owned restaurant can bring wonderful service and keep up to today's food industry.

I had no idea I needed Nepalese/Tibetan/Indian food in my life. The smell as you walk into the restaurant immediately grabs your attention and lets you know you're in for an experience. Everything on the menu looked delectable and my only regret is that my stomach isn't big enough to have ordered every single thing on the menu. If k ever find myself in Amsterdam again I will undoubtedly be coming back to Sherpa.

Sherpa also has a Tibetan and Nepalese twist, and the menu had so many new-to-me items, including Momos. The restaurant smells amazing when you walk in, so I knew that choosing an entrée would be difficult, especially with so many vegetarian options. I ordered the Tshel momos, which are stuffed with minced vegetables and steamed. They were served with a homemade tomato sauce that, while cold, complimented them perfectly. They were not spicy, which was different for me since I usually go for some form of noodles and love at least medium spice. My husband had the Yeti's Food- Stir fried noodles with boneless chicken and vegetables with Himalayan herbs. He usually goes for curry, so this was a change for him as well. Both of us really enjoyed our meals and are glad we went with something we've never seen in the US before. The service was great, and the servers brought out fresh papadam, raita, and some other condiments to try as soon as we were seated. They also kept our waters and my husband's beer filled and brought us Wilhelmina mints at the end of our meal with the check. Those mints are amazing and so much better than the US post-meal mints, and I had to buy a large package to take home! If you're looking for a culinary adventure in Amsterdam that is NOT Dutch food, check out Sherpa. Bonus points for being an easy walk from the museum district.
