**BEWARE THIS PLACE IS A SCAM**…read more Go somewhere else for painting pottery! The ceramics are expensive with most pieces being between $32-$48, all with "Made in China" labels. However, there is no paint or kiln cost it's all included with the price of the ceramic so it makes sense that it is on the higher side. But with the cost of paint included we watched the employee ADD WATER into the paint bottles there. Then when I went to use the black paint it was so watery that it bled onto my other designs. I mean it's ceramic paint, not water color. When I told the girl working she said her boss added too much water to the black paint. My mom asked for the name of her boss and the girl said Videria but not sure how to spell it but didn't want to give her name. When I asked what to do about my piece because I had just spent hours working on it to have black paint run on it, she asked what I wanted her to do about it. I mean I feel like if you work at a pottery shop you should know how to wipe off paint or fix something if it gets messed up. My brother was working on a larger piece and on his second coat of paint when she came over and told him less goes farther. And took his paint away to bring him back a little amount. I'm not sure that treating people this way and diluting paints is the best way to run a paint pottery shop. If a boss or owner wants to reach out with their contact info my mom has a photo of the girl. At the end we spent $140 for four small ceramics and had inattentive service, and saw how slimy a business this place really is.

Their popularity is a result of people searching for peaceful outlets to indulge their creative endeavors. Corazones on Fire, "Painting with a Cultural Edge" is an amazing art space in the Deco District that recognizes our need for us to connect artistically. It is located right across the street from Pancake Joe's on Donaldson Street. The space itself is quite charming with a colorful lighting that makes you feel welcome. Deborah Kuetzpal Vasquez, a visual arts professor at Our Lady of the Lake and Bianca Sapet both owners welcome you also and lead you through the process. A painting area is designated for you with all the necessary items that you will use for the night: easel, an apron, paints, brushes, cleaning glass and of course a canvas with a stenciled graphic of the evenings theme. I must confess my painting skills are to a minimal. Rembrandt, Picasso I certainly am not. However Deborah noticing my initial nervousness came up to my table and said, "You'll do just fine." As you are taken through the painting project all your senses are being engaged. One thing that I really appreciated was the excellent playlist playing throughout the night. Music by Malo, Juan Gabriel, Julieta Venegas, The Cardigans and even an impromptu song by Bianca made the experience even more memorable. Another detail I liked were the historical art lessons you are given while painting. For example it was interesting to learn that Pre-Columbian Civilization used natural occurrences to explain human behaviors. Thus the evenings themed piece of the Huitzil Hummingbird and the Xochitl Flower wasn't really about a bird nor a flower but was a metaphor for "mating." I would be remiss if I didn't include that it is BYOB. Other patrons brought wine, some sort of liquor and snacks. But after a few of my trusty beers the paint brush was feeling mighty limber and loose. All and all I had a memorable experience. Professor Vasquez is an amazing instructor who walks you through every step, from start to finish. She is very patient but encourages you to find your own artistic voice. This place is perfect for novice painters like me, would be awesome for a date night or for the person who just wants to reconnect creatively in a relaxed atmosphere. ps. At the end of night you take a group picture with your painting. Lucky for me I hid in the back to cover up my artistic shortcomings.

The owner is as kind and compassionate about the art in her gallery as the artists themselves. She is a wealth of knowledge and genuinely educates and equips visitors with the tools to experience the art as it is intended. It was amazing to learn the various techniques and elements used in each composition and to see the evolution of artists initial works to current and relevant work. My fiance popped in on a Sunday and lucked into the VIP treatment and cannot wait to return. In fact we are planning to attend the event this Thursday evening where we will get an opportunity to meet the artists that we learned so much about on our previous gallery visit. I'm looking forward to it and have recommended this gallery to nearly everyone I know. Thoughtfully, K & J. Porter

A few times a month they host different events that non-members can pay a fee to drop in and try something out (I believe there's no fee for non-members but I also haven't studied their FAQs) For this particular one, it was $20 per person, they supply the clay and you can make whatever by hand or give the pottery wheel a spin and they'll take your info and text you to pickup once they've fired whatever pieces you leave behind. They do have people versed in the crafts they offer these classes in so you will have someone to offer some tips or support.
