They also offer you and I mask type essential oil situation where you can pick different scents. After your hair is done washing you get processed and then you go back to your sitting area. I have had the hardest time finding somewhere to cut her hair. Salons that claim to be friendly to the Autistic community are often not knowledgeable of the sensory demands of being on the spectrum. And to top it off, the cuts at those salons are expensive considering the 15 minutes they allow for the appointment (and the cut often looks rushed). Coming to Shear Joy is a great alternative and worth every penny. You won't have to navigate a waiting room. You won't have to deal with the distractions of other clients and stylists talking, music, phones ringing (we all know all too well how that can derail our kids before even starting the appointment). Gospel is able to give you a calm environment to have truly one-on-one attention. Gospel had a wonderful fun energy with my daughter. My daughter could feel her compassion come through for sure. I was amazed how comfortable my daughter was. Any little self-soothing my daughter did (leg bouncing, scripting) was met with Gospel's compassion. When my daughter would fidget, Gospel's steady hand would adjust. It was truly something to see. Gospel was good about communicating to my daughter what she was doing and what she was going to do (us Autism Parents know how important that is). I decided to allow my hair to grow long enough to donate, then began the task of finding a…read morehairdresser who could give me an easy care cut. This was soon after salons were allowed to reopen during the covid pandemic, so getting an appointment was particularly challenging. I'd already determined that Anna Craig was my top choice because my hair is naturally quite curly and her reviews everywhere are fabulous. She specializes in cutting curly hair. The first couple of times I looked at her appointment calendar, there was a 6-8 week wait! One day I checked again and there must have been a cancelation because I was able to get an appointment just a few days later. Anna knew the correct way to bundle my hair for the donation, and made quick work of that. She took one look at the photo I'd brought with me, and within 35 minutes, she'd washed, cut, and dried my hair to perfection. It's been a couple of weeks since my cut and I still love it. I'll be going back next month!

Once I was helped, Faith got started with my shampoo. The shampoo was accompanied by an awkward (and borderline inappropriate) conversation. My head was not scrubbed at all during the shampoo and after it was done, I still had visible shampoo bubbles in my hair. I told Faith I just wanted a slight trim as I have been growing out my hair for four years and it was the longest it's ever been. Faith got to cutting and let me know she just recently graduated from hair school and was next to the master stylist (Daniel) so he could "watch" her. Which I feel like I should've been told about before the cut. When Faith finished my trim (two hours later) she asked me if I thought it was even.... I am not a hair stylist & I can not see the back of my head so I nervously said I hope so... when I got home, I noticed my hair was extremely butchered. My hair was also incredibly greasy from all of the product that she put in it. I washed it twice and still felt like I had major build up. I had three lengths added to my hair (and didn't have layers to begin with) and a hand full of extremely short pieces that were about CHIN length. I went in with my hair to the middle of my back. After multiple coworkers at my workplace commented on the uneven haircut, I contacted the salon to see if I could get it fixed. They brought me in a few days later to have it fixed. I was shocked that they let Faith touch my hair again after what she did in the first place. The fix barely helped and just made things shorter which I didn't want because I just wanted a trim in the first place. Two weeks of being extremely aggravated with my uneven haircut, I called the salon back to book with their master stylist, Daniel to chop my hair off into a short bob. I explained the situation to the owner and she put me on hold for ten minutes. After ten minutes, she answered and said "hello...hello??" Acting like she couldn't hear me. She hung up and I immediately called back. She did not answer.. I tried to call back three times that day and was sent to voicemail. I ended up going to another fabulous aveda salon in the area to get a chop and they were absolutely incredible and actually told me they have heard the same things happening at this salon! I am overall extremely aggravated that I had to chop my long hair that I worked so hard to grow out, and wasted a total of over $140 total on a trim gone wrong. Please avoid this salon at all costs.
