My partner hired Victory 1 through Thumbtack. I want to start by giving credit where it is due: the floors in our home were done very well. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the painting.
I wish I could upload photos with this review because they would make the issues much easier to understand. Victory 1 worked in our home for approximately three weeks during August. We were on a firm timeline because I had to be moved out of my apartment and into the house by September 1st, so having the work completed properly and on time was extremely important to us.
We purchased an older home that had not been updated since the 1980s. Much of the house had heavily textured/"popcorn" walls, which we hired Victory 1 to remove and refinish before painting. We also had decorative framing removed from some of the walls. We understood that this would require significant prep work, patching, sanding, and smoothing before paint was applied. That is exactly why we hired professionals and paid thousands of dollars for the work.
After approximately three weeks of work in our home, we are now left with a long list of issues that we will either have to correct ourselves or pay another professional to repair.
* The walls were not properly finished after the texture and wall framing were removed. There are areas where you can still see where previous material or framing had been located, along with uneven patches and changes in the surface texture. Instead of the walls having a smooth, uniform appearance after being refinished, the preparation work is visible through the paint.
* There are numerous rough, poorly finished inside corners. In several areas where two walls meet, there are thick, uneven ridges of joint compound/spackle that appear to have simply been painted over rather than sanded and finished into a clean corner. Some of these imperfections run vertically for a substantial portion of the wall and are extremely noticeable, especially when light hits them.
* The original wood trim and baseboards were supposed to be left unpainted, yet paint and white joint compound/spackle were left on them throughout the house. This is especially frustrating because this is original woodwork that we specifically wanted to preserve. We now have to carefully remove dried material from the wood without damaging the existing finish.
* The cut-in work around the baseboards, windows, and trim is extremely sloppy. There are visible gaps where the wall color stops short of the wood, areas of white material showing through, uneven paint lines, and other areas where the blue paint extends onto surfaces it should not have touched. We are now having to go back with a fine brush and correct these lines ourselves just to make them presentable.
* The window areas were left particularly unfinished. There are corners with large amounts of white compound remaining, some painted over and some left exposed. Around other portions of the window trim, there are obvious unpainted lines and gaps between the painted wall and the original woodwork.
* There are small pits, holes, and crater-like imperfections in multiple painted surfaces. Whether these resulted from the underlying wall preparation, application of the paint, or both, they should not have been left as part of a finished professional paint job.
* The overall paint finish is uneven. In certain lighting you can see differences in the surface, visible patched areas, ridges, and other imperfections that should have been corrected during preparation rather than simply painted over.
* Most concerning, the paint does not appear to be adhering or holding up normally. Light contact with some of the walls has already caused the paint to rub or come off in areas. We are being extremely careful around freshly painted walls, yet we already have places that need to be touched up. Considering what we paid, we should not be dealing with paint loss from ordinary, light contact immediately after the work was completed.
What makes this especially disappointing is that these are not simply tiny imperfections that require getting inches away from the wall to notice. Many of them are plainly visible when walking through the rooms. We hired professionals specifically because removing textured walls and refinishing an older home requires more skill and preparation than simply rolling paint onto a wall.
Again, the flooring work was done very well, and I want to be fair about that. But the painting and finish work did not reflect the quality we expected after spending thousands of dollars and having a crew working in our home for approximately three weeks. Instead of having a completed home, we are now faced with correcting paint lines, cleaning compound and paint from original woodwork, repairing poorly finished corners and wall surfaces, touching up damaged paint, and potentially having portions of the house professionally repainted. read more
