I've eaten here several times and the food is always excellent, there are plenty of affordable meals as well as a few medium-priced options and I've been pleasantly surprised by every meal I've had. There is a beautiful view from any area and the outdoor dining area is warm and not too loud. As with most places it is best to book as they are often busy however the lovely staff have never turned me away for not booking, just sometimes directed me to the front bar which is not fancy but great if you prefer a casual relaxed atmosphere. read more

Had lunch here today and it was terrible. Service was non existent. Stood at the bar then walked around for 10mins till I found someone. 3 out of the 4 meals we ordered were terrible. Stale corn chips and weird gravy sauce on nachos, chewy beef snitzal and left things off the burger. Not to mention they brought out the last meal after the 1st one was half finished. Renovations look great but definitely give this place a miss. read more

Did you know there is a cellar under the bar where you can go and hand select your bottle of wine for dinner. Lucky for me my friend I was dining with used to work here and took me down. We picked to lovely local reds for our feast. This added to the excitement of being out for the night and added a personal touch to the place. I have eaten here many times and had very good food each time. This experience was no different. It was a very bust friday night and the wait for our meals was long but when the place is full to the brim and the front bar over flowing, what else can one expect. I come here every year around Christmas with my family and I definitely look forward to coming back each time. For one the view is amazing. The Victory is perched on the hill with a view over the beach below. There is plenty of outdoor seating to make use of the view (but be sure to make a booking), or you can just sit out on the grass area with a glass of wine and soak up the atmosphere. The grass area is also perfect for kids who can't sit still for long. The menu has a range of choices (including a kids menu), but I wouldn't say it's cheap and when our meals came out some were pretty small for the price paid. I chose the burger ($17 - one of the cheaper options) which was filling and pretty tasty, but I'd probably chose something different next time). The Victory Hotel also has three Bed and Breakfast cottages which sleep 2 people each (children can be negotiated). I've never stayed in one before but I would look into it further if I was looking for a small getaway with a special someone. Everyone talks about this place, so if you're a visitor to Adelaide or you have never been here before, I'd suggest getting a group together for a feed and some drinks. Get the antipasto platter. Do it. We did, and totally stressed out about having enough room for dinner. It was a first world problem at its finest. The kid loved the fish and chips. I can't remember what we ate. Meat of some sort. It was good but we were still riding the high from the antipasto platter. A guy even came up to our table to ask about it and cursed because his table had convinced him to get something else. Poor guy. Of the glasses of wine we ordered, the Rudderless seemed the best. The view is amazing. Small running space for kids. The food is good. Rudderless wine is a must as is the antipasto platter. Oh and get a reservation. We were miraculously fortunate to get a walk-in table. read more

Disappointing lunch, 2 serves of Atlantic Salmon had to be replaced twice, too undercooked. It took one hour from ordering to accepting 2 plates Salmon that was edible and acceptable. The complimentary vegetables shared by 3 people was meagre to say the least, and we lost those on our plates with our replacement meals, so two diners are very unhappy and we won't be recommending or returning anytime soon. read more

I was "loudly" impressed by this pub, one of my biggest beefs with pubs is that you pay close to restaurant prices and receive substandard quality. What impressed me with the victory was that although the meal could have been considered slightly small it was of restaurant quality. I had the pan seared snapper special with silky smooth skordalia, asparagus, a dill, mint, broad bean, & feta salad, & garnished with snow pea tendrils. The fish was cooked to absolute perfection, one of the best fillets of fish I've eaten. The skordalia was the perfect accompaniment to the fish with strong lemon and garlic flavours, the consistency and texture were more like a puree and thus acted like a sauce rather then a mash potato. The little salad on top of the fish finished the dish off wonderfully. Overall it was fantastic cooking, a dish i would definitely return for. I'll definitely head back to the Victory next time I'm in the area. read more

Great place for lunch on a sunny afternoon. As others have said the outlook is fabulous. Nice food and menu choices although I agree that it isn't an inexpensive dining option for what you get. The outdoor seating area is pleasant if a little dated and in need of some improving. Has an energetic vibe to the place. It also has something of a hidden secret that not too many people outside of the regulars seem to know about - at least every person of several that I know who visited were unaware. This place is pretty terrific. Each time we go it's a great experience. The food always delivers on taste and creativity and is always an eyebrow raiser Good, clever, hearty, honest food. My favorite is the beef cheek pie. Crumbling homemade shortcrust pastry hiding the melt in the mouth beef cheek filling. TO DIE FOR ! Choosing a wine in the cellar is a fun but difficult task because there is such a vast range of deliciousness. The staff have a rhythm that exudes confidence and calm. They are like one of the rolling waves in the ocean, that coincidently you can see from your table. They are extremely professional and attentive. The venue on a whole scores top marks. Great selection of wines by the glass and the cellar selection is expansive if not a little er, expensive! Hadn't been to the Victory for three years for a birthday and the eight of us who attended all loved it. Three years on, Where is the love? The place still has the greatest views, it's always packed and they have a killer wine selection - especially in the downstairs wine cellar. The food? Five of us this time including two kids aged 7 and 4 who ordered the home made chicken nuggets. They were indeed not the usual commercial rubbish, however they were deep fried to almost black, not burned but another two seconds they would have been. Adult meals were okay but should have been much better given the prices. An entree of scallops which had a watermelon coulis just didn't work and had too many elements. The entree of tuna sashimi on the other hand worked well and was delicious. Main courses of gnocchi and pork belly were okay but not worthy of their glorified descriptions on the menu. Service a bit hit and miss with two entrees arriving followed by the third in ten minutes,then the same happened with the mains. Bring back the old Victory! read more

Partner and I had dinner here last night. We had the three course valentines dinner. The food was incredible! Couldn't fault it even a little. Complimentary glass of champagne went down a treat too. Only complaint would be that the service was a little slow, but it was very busy so understandable! Can't wait to eat here again in the near future. read more

One of our favourite places but sometimes the waitress need to take courtesy lessons. Bought a bottle of wine from the cellar but when we paid for it the lass forgot to remove the sticker from the back of the bottle which tells staff the wine has been paid for. Their mistake so did not appreciate the third degree from the waitress as to whether we had paid for it. Notwithstanding this the food was good as always. read more

One of those places you think " I must go there" Well we did last week and were a little disappointed. Overpriced is one thing that springs to mind. My partner opted for the Victory burger and myself for the parmigiana, as most of the other items on the menu didn't appeal. Mine was ok (but nothing special) but the burger was very disappointing in size and flavour according to my partner. Unfortunately, he's the unforgiving type so we won't be going back. Awful experience. Squeezed us in at a table near the bar so we were constantly surrounded by diners waiting to purchase drinks. Appalling service, had to ask for a menu after waiting for 20 minutes. One meal was incomplete and this was only addressed after two requests from us; no apology. Food very average. It seems diners here are so grateful to get food cooked as it should be that they immediately elevate it to gourmet standards. And the atmosphere was very noisy. Over-priced drinks from the bar. In fact, I doubt they are regulation when I compare to that of restaurants. Recently attended a wine tasting, The Annual Victory Hotel Wine Tasting Event (Vale Cru), which I found to be poorly organized and, again, over-priced for what was on offer. A few wine tastings and the odd scrap of passable finger food, the provisions of which were insufficient for a crowd of that size. Suggestions for a future event, get better organized! When the crowd shows up before you do it is not a good look. Have a 'welcome and this is how it works speech' at the beginning of the event. Not near the end. Keep people moving, it was difficult getting around to the different tables when people were blocking the way. Far too many people in such a small yard area. As venue proprietors, Victory management should see to it that regulations are met as well as a proper amount of food is made available for the size of the crowd. Event management should have someone appointed to walk through the crowd and make sure everyone is finding the event enjoyable and informative. I didn't. ps. There seemed to be an inordinate measure on the part of an event camera crew to capture the perfect photo images. Perhaps more care could be taken next time to place more focus on those who actually purchase tickets and attend the event. read more
