We visited the Gibson House, AKA Mark Twain Manor, because of an Experience Kit that we checked out…read morefrom the local library. The experience kit included two admissions, but did not include the lunch. The tour was very nice. First we watched a seven minute video narrated by a Samuel Clemons Reenactor. The video talked a little bit of the life of Samuel Clemons, and how he came to visit this house (that's also why it is known as Mark Twain Manor). We then toured the house and learned about its connection to the Underground Railroad. We were even shown a hidden, secret room, where fugitive slaves could stay. The house is decorated and furnished very nicely, and has many interesting architectural features. We also got to see the inside of the Carriage House which is behind the main house. After the tour, the paid guests were served lunch, but as I mentioned, the experience kits did not come with lunch included. Overall, I thought the tour was interesting, and our tour guide was very pleasant. The only thing missing, was that both on the website, and when we called to make our reservations we were told that there was supposed to be a live Samuel Clemens Reenactor, but there was not one when we visited. If you are a fan of history, check out the Gibson House . . . Cheers!

First I would like to point out that the other review on here is about the DDay Battle Reenactment…read morenot the museum. The battle is once a year for three days in August . The museum is open all summer on Saturdays and Sundays. And It contains a history of local participation in, not just DDay, but WWII by those who served and on the homefront especially. There are always volunteers who are happy to show you around and to answer any questions. It has displays of those who served from that time and even some German ones. My favorite part is the kitchen, It truly is authentic as it is the original one. I remember my mother having one just like it. It's interesting to learn about all the sacrifices people at home had to make such as rationing. It has lots of displays that you may be surprised to learn about . So take a weekend day in the summer and stop by. You can park within easy walking distance, even in front.

I've known about this event for about the last 15 years. always wanted to come and bring my Dad but…read morehe was already very old and its usually been very hot that time of year. He would really appreciated the historical aspects of the event, having lost his country (Yugoslavia at the time, really Serbia) to Communism and having to spend 1945 to 1950 in Displaced Persons (DP) camps in Europe before coming to America. Always wanted to take my father in law because he had brothers who served during WWII. But again, too old, too hot to go! But finally, this year the weather was great and the wife said lets go! Downloaded/printed the map to specifically try and find reasonably close parking (wife has Parkinson's, need to bring wheelchair). Drove around where we thought parking was but NOT clearly signed thru town. Most streets had No Parking signs on EACH tree lawn so clearly marked. But then we found a close street which was almost fully parked up and only has No Parking signs on the corner so we grabbed the last spot and hung our Handicap placard. Later on, when we left, we found every vehicle on that street with a parking ticket written up shortly after we parked! Nice, sleezy moneymaker for a free event! Note that there was a huge park close to the event with about 5% usage by Boy Scouts; could have easily been free parking for Handicapped The event itself was great. The efforts by the reenactors was great. The battles were cool even for their small scale. The D-Day landing was great considering again the scale possible. The only negative were all the inconsiderate a-holes who came at the last minute and stood in front of people who spent hours staking out there seating/viewing area. Its truly amazing how many a-holes there are in the world. The sound system was poor so all the timeline info was semi recognizable. The fair type food trucks offered pretty good variety of choices at ok prices. Lots of tents/vendors with militaria. My rating would be higher except the $138 parking fine meant we didn't spend anything in any of the local restaurants or stores. Maybe next time when we don't get a ridiculous parking ticket.

We started out with a tour of the beautiful farm led by Alan. We then had our first class which was yoga, led by Em. we took a little break for lunch, which was homemade soups in homemade sourdough bread bowls made by Alan. We then had a little bit of relaxation time and time to mingle with each other before having a Qigong lead by Paul Zegarac - this was great and extremely interesting. A practice I've never tried before. We then had a mindfulness class back out on the yoga platform in the Meadow, led by Em. we then spent time with other retreat members just visiting before making our own homemade stone oven pizzas made with Alan's homemade sourdough pizza dough. They had a lot of toppings for us to choose from. for a last class of the day we had a sound bath, which was extremely relaxing and led by Mary Conley - as the sun was setting. To end our day we had a closing ceremony around a bonfire, which was just so emotional and memorable. We made s'mores the fire before going to bed. The next morning, Alan and Chris made us French toast buffet breakfast with two different kinds of homemade compote with yogurt and granola , and even some of their honey from their farm. Going to Flannel Dog Farm was an awesome experience, and I look forward to returning!
