My main interest as a retired person is in art classes and this is where I finally found classes to suit my needs. Lynn Morrison teaches water color painting, acrylic painting, drawing and multi-media arts. She really is a wonder and a supportive and generous teacher. I like her pattern of showing how a certain work is started, layered, and completed as the class worked along side of her. This year they added Asian Fine art brush and ink painting. Myungsook Piette really knows her medium and is very generous with materials. She demonstrates technique and allows lots of time to practice. Each session we learned one of the "Four Gentlemen" and mounted a completed painting. We also carved our own stamp to sign our works. There is also photography instruction. I found the material useful in class, but I don't own the software, so I couldn't practice outside of class. The teacher Roy Salisbury is very well prepared and knows what he is talking about. In the spring students can show their work at a week-long art show at Mesa Verde High School. There is also an art sale later in the spring. This is definitely a reasonably priced center where you can get excellent art instruction. The Spring Catalog is now out and online at www.sanjuan.edu/sunrisetc

"EXEMPLARY PROFESSIONAL TRAINING PROVIDED THROUGH SAC-STATE"…read more SIT REP In one of my roles for my employer - the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) - my training-section provides a training opportunity for our licensing enforcement officers & investigators who work in the Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD). These officers must go out to state-licensed Community Care Facilities where they investigate complaints about facility-deficiencies, neglect or outright abuse on the client-populations residing in these facilities. For those officers entrusted to the specific investigations of Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFEs), and for the Chronically Ill (RCFCIs), California State University - Sacramento (CSUS) provides important subject-matter information that allows our officers to investigate these cases with a far better understanding of the demands placed on the licensed facility, on the staff, and what minimum standards for acceptable care should be maintained for the elderly client population residing at these facilities. In addition, there is a training requirement mandated by the State Legislature that our officers go through so many hours of training on these specialized subject-matter areas. THE SET-UP & CURRICULUM For the last five (5) years, I've enjoyed the experience of working with Dr. Osborn of CSU-Sacramento's School of Gerontology. She and her instructor staff have provided our CCLD officers with great curriculum and in-class training that has helped them get the knowledge base and hands-on skills they need to better interact with the facility staff and the elderly client populations. The various modules in this 40 HR training provide a lot of specific information that deals with the health needs of the elderly, better understandings of mental handicaps and deficiencies, minimum standards for residential living, and better communication tools for interpersonal action with elderly populations. Other specialized modules also discuss dealing with family members of the elderly and being sensitive to their frames of mind, as well as other related issues dealing with end-of-life scenarios. THE LOWDOWN The CSUS School of Gerontology can provide excellent program knowledge on the elderly populations of our society so that greater understanding of their unique needs can be provided.

Unfortunately, I needed to take the class on that date and could not reschedule. I had to scramble to find another CPR class (and the money to pay for it) in order to be hired on time for my job. I called in order to get a refund only to be told that it would take 6-8 weeks to receive my refund and they seemed perplexed as to why I could not reschedule. I found another class that was shorter, cheaper, and I didn't have to pre pay in advance. After spending 5 years at Sac State, struggling to find work after graduation I was extremely disappointed that they would take so long to refund my money when there was little to no notice that the class was cancelled. I DO NOT recommend taking CPR classes here as instructors are unreliable and their refund policy is unacceptable. Go to NorCal EMT in Roseville for cheaper, reliable classes.

This district knows how to teach! The schools are safe and well maintained by the operations staff. When I go by campuses now, I see HVAC workers on the roofs and custodians cleaning classrooms in preparation for the school year. It's good to know that there are people actively workin g behind the scenes to help facilitate the safety of our children.

The district hires and retains inexperienced, rude, unmotivated, privileged teachers set in their ways, racist staff, and have discriminatory practices. I am a parent of 4 students who attended schools in the district since 2008 and it has only gotten worse. My youngest is at Rio Americano and the culture is toxic and dysfunctional. His counselor Sydnee Butcher needs training and support as an academic guidance counselor. Doesn't surprise me being trained by Elizabeth Irwin. When Sydnee first appeared last year, she was very vocal about change and supporting students. She stated she once was a student there and her experience there allowed her to identify areas of improvement. My experience with her is that is far from the truth. Sydnee doesn't perform any research nor does she fact check. She just blindly regurgitates what Elizabeth feeds her. My son is in a unique position and has aspirations for which he has set goals. While trying to reach those goals, Sydnee and Elizabeth have only worked to hold him back with hard stops. They are not helpful at all. You would think your academic guidance counselor wants students to succeed and instead of delivering hard stops, they will use their discretion (they have levels of discretion) to find ways and create opportunities to support students success. If you are able to get your children into a different district. Please do so. You will not regret it. If you are not able, please listen to your children, the teachers and staff lack integrity.

I told them after thinking that i wanted to do the LVN program and got ghosted. Weeks went by and i called them and they told me to come in- so i did.. then they told me that if i paid the $150 for the lvn pre requisite required course that id have a seat in their program but id need to pay them $1900 within like 5 days from then. the $150 was to secure my spot. So i did.. then i paid the $1900 and i went through forms with them signing stuff with the enrollment rep and they didn't go over anything just told me to sign and go to the next page and sign again.. i had no idea what i was getting into. I end up doing the pre req course that's required for the lvn program. You need a 75% to pass the class and be eligible for the program but the instructor i got was indian and she was judging all of my assignments and saying my oral medical terminology assignments were said wrong then she'd send the "answers" in her words and she said it even worse than me.. my grade dropped so much just from having a bad professor. She accused me of using AI with no proof. I told them i wanted to stop the program mid way through and i wanted my money back as i was being accused of something i did not do with no justification. They told me i couldn't get my money back and that i had passed that deadline to be eligible to get my money back.. I HAD NO IDEA THERE WAS EVEN A DEADLINE AND THAT I COULDVE GOTTEN MY MONEY BACK BECAUSE THE ENROLLMENT REP RUSHED ME THRU ALL THE ENROLLMENT PAPERWORK. I ended up dropping because i knew id fail with the instructor i had. i went back and fourth with them for 2 weeks to see if i could get any type of refund. Their final answer was no. I do not recommend this school! it's a complete money grab! go to carrington or gurnik!! I wasted $1,900 and i'm literally barley making it by as is. What a sh*ty school!!! DO! NOT!! GO!! HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh also their CMA program is overpriced i became a CCMA for $1,200 in 3 months!!!!! Check out stepful instead of this crap pot.
