For the price they charge for this hotel you'd assume that they would have undertaken some form of restoration over the past 50 years, but I guess they are squeezing every last penny out of it before it falls to the ground. Maybe I am being a bit harsh - the staff were a bit pleasant (although didn't know about the parking situation outside the front door of the hotel) and the breakfast wasn't the worst. I can't say I will ever stay there again - the room was not clean (stained carpets, dirty bathroom), so I'll urge caution for any intrepid travellers heading down Fermoy way....(By the way, the wedding wasn't in the hotel, thankfully!).

We've been in Carrick for three weeks, staying nearby, and walk to the hotel's restaurant nearly every day for tea, coffee, scones, and sometimes for lunch or dinner. The Carraig has the best wi-fi internet we've found in the town, giving us a chance to remain in touch with home in the U.S. The staff here is the best, friendly, helpful. They're open from about 8 AM until late, and can pull a really nice pint (or half-pint if you prefer) of Guinness, as well as a selection of other beverages. We haven't had occasion to use the hotel facilities, but no doubt they'll measure up to the downstairs. Thanks to all the staff for providing a home away from home.

Just not a warm first impression. We were exhausted and starving, and that was a dumb rule. The woman at the front desk was not particularly pleasant, and she was also the bartender. Our room was sub par, cigarette burns in the tub. No extra toilet paper in the room when we ran out. And the broken thermostat was blinking the whole stay, begging for a filter change...gross. The china was also dirty at breakfast. The only pluses I will give to this place: the sitting and dining rooms were decorated well and the OTHER staff (NOT the receptionist/bartender) were pleasant. Her only complaint was that it had a pea purée bed under the fish and it made the bottom a little soggy. We finished with a pear tart and ice cream dessert and it was yummy as well. Beers were the traditional offerings on tap. Prices weren't bad either - what one would expect after a couple days in Ireland.
