My family has been coming here for years. We always come back because we never feel like we are being sold on a repair we do not need. He will tell you what needs to be done and will always let you make the decision. He was able to find an issue the dealership never did. We usually drop the cars off in the morning, and get them by end of day if the parts that are needed are in stock. I have never actually tried walk in appointments for car issues as they usually take some time. Prices are fair, and I will continue to come here as long as they are open. read more

I have been coming to Victor's for more than two decades. He is very experienced and very honest mechanic. He always found out the exact problem which my cars had and fixed it with very reasonable price. He diagnosis the car problem within couple of minutes while I waited here and let me know how much it cost, and fixed car within same day. He is very kind and very friendly and easily gentleman. I am very happy with him and satisfied with his job. read more

I've been coming here for years and so has my grandma and my mom and now me! Victor is speedy honest and fair in prices. He knows what's wrong and does everything great! read more

I've been coming to Victor's for decades. I find him a very honest and knowledgeable mechanic/business owner. Brought my Ford, Lexus, Toyota, even Subaru vehicles for service over the years. Always received reasonable and timely repairs/maintenance from Victor's. read more

Victor Yao, the owner of the shop is as shady as they come. Took my moms car to get services here for an oil leak and instead of replacing the oil pan which he claimed needed to be repaired, all he did was put some silicon in the leaks. This did not help and the leak continued. Also, seems that if you are not of Asian descent he will try to con you for your money. I reported him to the better business bureau in the hope of getting my mom's hard earned money back. Please stay away from this establishment if you care about your car. He will only invent things are wrong with your car. Btw, after taking the car here, the ac no longer works on the car either. If I could give this review 0 stars I definitely would. read more

I always brought all my older car here to repair for many years, because Victor is a very honest guy and he'll tell me what needed to be done and what not to be fixed yet, especially everything is on the budget, it is very hard to find a mechanic that you can trust this day. I definitely recommend this place to all my friends. read more

I've been going to them for 30+ years (even before they moved to this current location). I first went to them because my engine was smoking with steams and I pulled into the nearest garage. Victor rebuild the engine with very reasonable price. Over the years, I have found him to be technical competent, man of his words, and reasonably priced. He may be too direct at some times, but hey, I rather hear the truth so we can really fix the problem! read more

Service here is very very slow..absolutely unacceptable. You have people coming in and waiting for more than 15 - 20 minutes just to get a mechanic's attention. The owner, Victor dared to up charge me like they are a dealer for tire install and alignment (total $140??!) But their subpar/poor quality service does not warrant. Waited a total 2.5 - 3 hours just to get my tires installed/balance and alignment done on a slow Sunday afternoon. This place is a joke. Never coming back here ever again. Stay away everyone! read more

So I can say that I am one of those people who aren't very good to their cars. A year ago my brother gave me his 14 year old Saturn and told me to get an oil change ASAP. This car was not in tip top shape when I got it, but I sure didn't improve its condition. 6 months past and I never did heed his warning. So... what ended up happening was as I was driving the 2 hour drive home to UCSD at 4 am, my engine fell out of my car because I was out of motor oil...something I could have avoided had I just gotten that stupid oil chane when I was told to. Ps. watching pieces from under neath your hood fall out behind you through the rear view mirror is a really unsettling experience. Luckily I knew a friend of a friend who's dad owned an auto repair shop all the way in Rosemead. When his dad got it (by the way he paid for the 100 mile tow from Oceanside to Rosmead) he was able to completely replace the old tattered up engine with a used Saturn engine that month for only $1300. I was really pleased and after that, I never had a problem with my baby again. Fairly tale ending! If this place wasn't so far from where I lived I would go for all my car needs. Their oil changes are only $18!!!! I have never really seen anything for less than $20, once I paid $40... So ladies, if you don't want to get ripped off like I did and you live in the San Gabriel, Rosemead, Arcadia area go to this place! 5 stars! read more

I'm one of those lazy auto owners who takes his car to the dealership for the warranty period, rather than dealing with fighting the documentation when something goes wrong. As a result, I've historically paid more for a "higher" level of service and the convenience of getting warranted repairs handled with less hassle. Maybe you are like me, in which case, you will like Victor Auto Repairs. Having bought my first used car two years ago, I've been taking it to a dealer near my office for service. After getting taken to the cleaners (over $2400) for essentially fluid replacement and CV boot by the dealer, I resolved to find a reputable local repair shop. Last week, my "Service Engine Soon" light turned on. Seeing that I was close to 100k miles, I figured it was an automated light, like the Maintenance Required light on my 2001 Civic. Later that day, I had trouble starting my engine warm (but not cold). After letting it sit for a few hours, it started right up the next morning. Throughout the long holiday weekend, the car refused to start warm, but was just fine cold. Until Saturday night... it died on us while driving down a major street. I pulled over, couldn't get it started, and then had it towed to my girlfriend's street in Rosemead. Thank God for AAA. I called around a bit on Sunday, but every place was closed or closing by the time i got around to it. Monday morning (the President's Day holiday), I drove down to where the car was stored, and had it towed to Victor Auto Repair. (just a block away) Victor agreed to take a look for $40, and off I went to play board games. After calling in once to get a status update around 1pm, Victor called me twice more-- once, around 2pm to tell me that he needed to order a crankshaft sensor from a dealer, and it would be about $400; he couldn't guarantee this would fix the problem. I told him to go ahead, and he would call me at 5 with more info. He called again at 5:05, telling me that the car was done, and I could come pick it up. He made no mention of price. Ominous. I arrived, waved at Victor, he said, "Go start the car." Car started right up, seemed to idle a bit more smoothly than before. I went in, he shoved a receipt across the counter, told me, "90 day warranty", I said, "Didn't you say $400?", he said, "It was a different part," I paid $168 ($120 of that was labor), and was out the door in less than 5 minutes. This is EXACTLY the experience i want-- the guy who fixed my car was the one who rang me up, and I got to leave quickly. When i got home, i found the old part sitting in a bubble-wrap bag, labeled with the new part #. I didn't have to ask, I didn't have to worry about shadiness or proof of the work. Considering that I dropped it off 11am on President's Day, and how obviously busy the shop was, I was very pleased at the speed and quality of the service. I didn't have the negative experience cited by the other yelper below, but I don't do any after-market work on my car, either. I want the simplest, cheapest, least-hassle-to-maintain-and-own vehicle available, and I want to drive it into the ground. Victor is the perfect mechanic for that, and he'll be getting all of my business from here on out. tl, dr: Not a luxury shop-- lots of working techs, bit of a mess. Took care of my car. Excellent price. Terrific communication. read more

Firstly, Victor seemed to be a nice guy. But... I brought my car for a smog check. This was my first and last time. He looked under my hood, eventually added $10 to the original estimate. He said "10 dollar, I don't see anything." What he was refering to was my cold air intake. It has a big C.A.R.B. sticker on it, which means it will not hurt my smog emission therefore is allowed to be there. He had no true reason for asking for 10 extra dollars, I think he knew that but wanted to try to rip me off. He wanted to charge me ten dollars extra because my car's intake was modified. IF my intake was not legit, he would have been breaking laws also by asking for a bribe. read more

Came in at around 1:45PM for an alignment. They've moved my car three times, one time on to the alignment rack, where I thought they would actually begin to work on it. Mind you this was about 45 minutes after I got here. They moved it off the rack, parked it in the sun for another 45 minutes, and began helping other customers who have come after me. I don't mind waiting at all; it isn't the wait that has me dissatisfied, to say the least, it's the fact that six people who came AFTER me had come and gone before I have been helped, even when the alignment rack has been empty the entire duration of my wait. When asked when I was going to be taken care of, I was given attitude and told I would be "next". This was at 2:55PM. It's now 3:27PM, and has since been moved back on to the alignment rack, but has been untouched for 15 minutes it has been on here. I'm never coming back here, nor should you ever come here for your first service of any kind. Workers are completely unprofessional. read more

I came in for a coolant flush and they let me provide the anti-freeze (picked some up at Walmart). They did the job for a reasonable price (at least according to google) and they took me as a walk in, so I didn't need an appointment. They took a credit card and provided some paperwork for the job so there wasn't much more I could ask for. read more

Rip off! For ppl who r not too familiar with auto repairs and ladies should be aware. They always try to sell u unnecessary parts or work, like when u pick up ur car they might give u a different price. read more

Victor tries to be that old crotchity mechanic that's not so nice but you can trust him to do a good job at a fair price. While prices are fair, they are not great for a neighborhood independent. The service is sloooow, especially on Sunday. That is the only benefit of this shop is that they're open on Sunday. Even if they say they'll take 1/2 an hour, plan on 2. read more

Worst service I've encountered by far! I went it to get my tire patched up since it had a nail in it and what's usually been a free patch/repair at the other shops near by this patch was $30. After arguing with the mechanic about how he never mentioned to me the price to patch both over the phone and in person before he started to work on it, He finally decides to lower the price to $15 but wait... There's a $30 minimum to pay with credit/debit and I had no cash. So another few minutes more of arguing with the guy he then finally decides to "bend the rules" and accepts my payment. Whats usually a free quick and easy -30 min fix turned into an hour of frustration and stress. I wouldn't come back here even if I was in desperate need of service. read more

I can honestly say without a doubt Victor has been the most honest mechanics I've dealt with. And do you know how hard it is to find a mechanic you can trust without getting ripped off? I started coming here after my manufacture warranty expired. I came across Victor's on accident seeing that it was right across from my acupuncturist. My most two recent visits had to deal with replacing a transmission and an oil change. Now, I didn't really know what was wrong with my car. I did notice it wasn't shifting properly and would make a lot of noise. After driving my car around the block, Victor cut straight to it and told me the issues. We quickly ordered a transmission to have it delivered and installed. He told me it would take a week max! If I went to the dealership to get this fixed, it probably wouldn't taken me 2 weeks! And probably at 5 times the cost. He gave me a reasonable price and a reasonable amount of time to fix. My oil change service took way less than an hour. A tip for those who have uncommon cars is to bring your own oil filter. They might have your oil filter in stock, but if you want your oil changed quickly, come prepared. It'll be even cheaper if you bring your own oil. I know, sounds odd right? But honestly you'll save more money this way if you can purchase your synthetic oil at Costco in bulk. Also, let it be known: I live about 30 miles from Victor Auto Repairs. THIRTY MILES. I had my car towed there to get it fixed. I drive 30 miles to get my oil changed because the crooks in my area are the bane of my existence! read more

I came for an oil change and victor lied to me. He say that I have a blown up engine. Also, he try to sell me other services which I don't need for my car. this place is probably the worst place to go to. i wasted 3 major hours of life just to get a smog check completed. if i could rate this a zero star, i would. when the smog check was completed, he let someone else drove my car to run his errands. let alone he didn't even ask me for permission. which took another 30mins for him to get back. i am very disappointed in this place. there were people who came after me and they were in and out of there within 10minutes. worst customer satisfaction I ever experienced. They are very unorganized on who to help first as well. read more

Took it in to get repair. Got the car back, and some security system light (unrelated to the work) in the dash went on and won't come off. Asked him what that's all about. Said he could check it, but that it'll cost me. Considering the light was not there, actually never there. I didn't even know such a light existed. And only came on after I brought it in, yeah something happened. Won't own up to it and won't even look without more $$$$. read more
