First review of the new year! I went to the Florence post office, & decided to see if there were any good places to grab a burger in town. Vic's Grocery popped up as having a deli, pizza & burger counter inside. The reviews were mixed, but not too many were recent. I decided to give it a go. I was greeted by a friendly worker when I entered, and found the food service by following the yummy smell of onions cooking. I went for a bacon cheeseburger & some fries. $9.27 out the door before a tip. The cook was great & accomodared all of my requests. I told the cashier that I was going to wait outside with my dog & I'd be back inside in about 5 min for my food. About 3 min later, the cook came out the door & delivered my food to me! Great service, tasty burger & fries. I'll be back to try some other menu items soon! Don't let the outside discourage you from going in. It's a bit old looking. It's worth going in! Thank you for providing food shopping opportunity in Florence TX. However, please remain professional and demonstrate GOOD customer service. Several times our family has shopped and the male clerk is talking loudly on the phone. When checking out, the man does not speak to the customer and continues his phone conversation. That conversation is in a foreign language and makes us feel not wanted and foreign to the store...who I would think needs/wants our business? We have walked out several times hoping things would change but they repeat each time... read more

I've never been to Florence, but one night passing through on my way home to Austin I stopped in at Vic's on Main Street and had a pretty memorable experience. Small town grocery w/ lots of products, homemade offerings, and a kitchen in the back that makes pizza, burgers, philly cheesesteaks, and several other meals. Here's where I ran into an obstacle - - a language barrier. I think the owners here are from India, and they speak Spanish, so it's like a melting pot when someone half Japanese and German walks in... it's starting to look like a G8 Summit Meeting in the back by the deli. I just asked what the top sellers were, the guy says "cheesesteak". So for five bucks I thought why not - - I'm not in the mood for a burger or a pizza. They have regular and Texas style (w/ peppers + jalapenos) cheesesteaks. The guy started making the sandwich while I cruised around the isles to check out the offerings. Lots of stuff you don't usually see, various new energy drinks, some items imported from Mexico, some pies and pastries, but I came across "Oma's Choice" jarred foods from nearby Schulenburg, TX. Looking over the large selection I opted to go for the dill pickles, salsa, queso, dill garlic, and chipotle olives. At $5.95 a piece why not give it a shot and support our local businesses? So far - the pickles, garlic, queso, and olives all rocked. I shoulda bought more. They also had a few relishes, habanero jams, cobblers, and more salsas. Very nice and friendly staff, nice hometown country feel, great selection of options, some groceries are a tad bit pricey but the philly cheesesteaks are awesome. I saved them both in the fridge and took a couple of bites each night after getting home after the gym, the bread is soft and the sandwich is very tasty. We just need someone from the UK, Russia, Canada, Italy and France to stop by so we can have an official G8 Florence Summit Meeting at Vic's w/ plenty of cheesesteaks, baked goods, and Oma's products to go around. read more

When you walk in, your expectations probably aren't high. It's a deli in the back of a very old store in a very old town. Then you order something and take it home. The food is amazing. I've eaten their sandwiches, pizzas, burgers, and salads. All of the things I mentioned are amazing. The food is always delicious and reasonably priced. The people working are very nice. It's a must try in Florence, Texas. read more

I have been going to Vics grocery since I was a young child. It has that small town atmosphere and has a wonderful meat market. We order from the grill at least 2 times a week. Our favorite is the thin crust meat lovers.. it's a must try! read more

We are lucky to have a convenient place in Florence to shop that doesn't involve a trip to Georgetown or Killeen. Small town grocery store with friendly staff. If they don't carry what you want ask them and often they can stock it for your convenience. Glad they are close by. read more

Maybe I stopped in on an "off" day. This place was anything but friendly. I stopped in with my teenager and my infant (in a stroller) Maybe that looked shady but I have one of those new-fangled car seats that you push a button and it turns into a stroller. Anyways, we were on Main St in search of snacks and thought we'd try this place since we had heard such good things. First of all, When we entered the lady behind the counter glared at us. Didn't say a word. I smiled. Then a guy came up to the counter, again didn't greet us. They spoke to each other so now I knew they weren't mutes. They in fact did have the ability to speak as the other reviewers have mentioned. Just not to me. We walked down every single isle browsing because they do have quite a bit of stuff in there. I noticed the lady on several of the isles but didn't think much of it. But after a few minutes I started feeling rather uncomfortable due to the staring. So I asked her where the gallons of water were located and she mumbled something about.... over there, throwing her arm around. I said "thanks" and headed for the exit. I had enough. The man who was roaming around (I believed to be the owner) went out the front door briskly just ahead of me...pushing my stroller, remember. I'm directly behind him, he lets the door fly back and almost smacked the stroller! Now, I'm in Florence Texas, mind you, The Friendliest Town in Texas. I expected the guy to hold the door. Florence, Texas is lucky to have Vics! Easy to grab a few groceries, and not as bad pricing as a convience store!
