It depends on who you have to attend to your hair, nails, face and body. It is definitely a salon covering vanity and more for all ages and genders. The women there are not pretentious. The only thing I would appreciate is to have those doing facial and massages to please not eat garlic foods. It is difficult to avoid when these services are up close and personal. read more

Over the years I have spent a lot of money on manicures, and it has certainly been a luxury that I have not always been able to afford. I thought I had found the perfect place to get my manicures as I had been coming here for a little over a year and I had no issues with the service, nor did I have any issues with the product. One day I had a no-chip manicure appointment with a nail technician that I had seen numerous times and had told me that the salon was switching over to a new nail polish brand; a brand I was not familiar with. The brand that had been used on all of my previous manicures was OPI. She told me that OPI was expensive, limited in colors offered, and hard to get, although, this other brand was less expensive and offered more colors. (Note. they were not charging less money for the cheaper brand of nail polish). I agreed to try this new nail polish because I liked the variety of colors offered. After two days, the nail polish started coming off. I called the salon and explained what happened and asked to speak to the manager. I never received a call from the manager and when I did finally speak to someone at the salon about what had happened, I was asked what had I done for the nail polish to come off. I explained I did everything I normally do when after I have my nails done and reminded that person that I had been coming to the salon for over a year and never had any issues with the OPI nail polish. No one from the salon ever asked me how can the issue be resolved by them. After not receiving a response from a manager, finally, I asked to speak with Vickie, the owner of the salon and when I explained what had happened. She told me that she thought we had spoken already and I advised her that we did not. She never offered any apologies or any offers to resolve the problem. My suggestion, if you are someone who spends a lot of money getting manicures as I do. Hold onto your money and save it for a place that will not use cheap products on you and when you have a valid complaint will at least extend the courtesy and answer your phone calls. read more

I came for a nochip manicure based on a friend's excellent recommendation who has nails that look fabulous and last a month. I needed my manicure to last 2.5 weeks due to a business trip so I tried somewhere new. (Where I was going lasted 3-4wks but increased prices). I was very disappointed in the coverage as they're so thin, they started chipping 3 days later. By one week, 3 more were broken. I compared to another friend and her nails were easily 3x as thick. It also hurt at times due to over filing. I did comment that they were thinner than normal and the tec insisted that if they were thicker, they would lift and that is how they always do them. Sadly I will not return and spend $35 to do this again Two stars because the tec was nice and personable. No one greeted me when I walked in for the first time. She didn't paint my whole nail on any of them. She also filed my nails very thin so they ended up breaking. Never going back. read more

I wasn't greeted until about 3:30pm and the woman named Beth inquired right away what we would be doing. I came in here for a touch up to my hair, and they said that it would be a corrective color and wanted to bleach it. Informed them that was not something I was interested in. Waste of time. Worst experience ever!! Came in for highlights with Alice! Had medium brown hair with carmel highlights and wanted to add some blonde! She never once faced me towards the mirror when doing my hair! Put me under a dryer for 25 mins with bleach on! My whole head was fried and my hair was literally falling out! Her comment was then don't touch it!! Seriously??? I have never in my life been treated so rude in a salon! I'm paying for a service and it's your job to know what your doing! She continued with her attitude in which the owner Vickie then came over and attempted to fix the problem but the damage was already done! My normal stylist was out of town and this was definitely a lesson well learned! I was refunded the $85 I was charged the following day minus the product I purchased to try and help the damage! The following week I got into my regular stylist and she couldn't believe the damage that was done to my hair! Bleach bleeds all over the back, hair broken off under bangs and extreme loss on sides and all over! She couldn't believe this was done at a salon! I had to cut off 4 inches throughout my whole head, add low lites to try and make my hair look healthier, pull out the yellow and try and deal with all the breakage that was cause! $162.00 later and the stress this caused is unreal! I called Vickie back to try and recoup my out of pocket to fix this mess and still haven't received a call back! I messaged her and still nothing! When I talked to her the first time the following day she told me that she told all her girls not to refer Alice to anyone unless they request her!! Really?? Why is she still working here? Especially after telling me she gets confrontational with customers if they don't agree with her! I will never visit this salon again! Very poor business practice! I came in for the first time in 10 years to the new location and left incredibly disappointed. Gabrielle did my color and when she was half way done I asked her why the color was a thin and being applied with a bottle- she explained that she was using a semi permanent and that if I used a permanent I would be left with lines through the outgrowth. I have NEVER used anything but permanent and yes without growth and touchups this is to be expected. My question is WHY would she not ask me about using a semi perm and I would have said absolutely not. Of course it faded and washed out within 3 weeks. Another not so great aspect was the owner on her phone- doing a clients hair discussing taking things out of storage as I was trying to chill and read a magazine under the dryer...not exactly a professional or relaxing environment. Fast forward 3 weeks later I get a call from their PR/marketing person about my experience (very nice woman) and recalled the "tint color" services I received... I explain all of the above and she says she'll get back to me. 2 days later the marketing/PR person gets back to me and tells me that Vicky feels they did their job and I am more than welcome to consult with another stylist Cari (who I used years ago and love still), but that the stylist Gabrielle said that none of what I said was the case. Really?!?! I'm not a stylist- I couldn't make the verbiage or conversation we had up- so now she's trying to make me out to be a liar...silly, stupid move....way to support the customer Vicky! I'll never come back to this salon, or suggesting to others. The PR/marketing lady has a big job ahead of her with this kind of customer service- good luck. read more

My whole life I've found getting my hair highlighted to be not only expensive but stressful, until I met Demitra at Vickies! I called the day of and was assigned to Demitra, she really listened to what I wanted (get the absurd white beach blond wash out, make me look natural blond, not Girls Next Door from E!), and commited to doing a very professional and even job on my hair. Not only did she do wonders for my doo' she also styled my eyebrows with a shape that fit my face and would be easy to keep up between visits (I live downtown, Vicki's is in Wauconda, IL). I'm used to paying $130-$180 per visit to get my hair colored alone, I was pleased to walk out of there paying under $80 with a new color and set of eyebrows! If you decide to make an appointment here, I highly suggest you confirm the stylist before you hang up AND when you walk into your appointment. I didn't realize that there was a stylist switch until AFTER my hair was done. It wasn't until the girl who worked on me, handed over her business card, that I realized a different stylist had been working on me THE ENTIRE TIME. No one called me, no one confirmed my appointment, NOTHING. The salon coordinator stated that someone was supposed to notify me of the change. Obviously, that didn't happen. Now, onto my hair. I showed the stylist a photo of an ombre/bayalayge effect. I got 1/2 of my hair dip dyed in hair bleach instead. I cried the whole way home AND on top of what I spent at the salon, spent another $20 on boxed hair color to fix the mess. I will say that the owner refunded my money WITHOUT hesitation but I'm still stuck with damaged hair and months of spending more money on products to get my hair healthy again. Needless to say, I WILL NOT be going back to or recommending this salon. EVER. read more

I live in Lake Zurich and their Wauconda location is convenient for me. There are stylists with all different hours to accommodate ppl who want to go during the day, evening, weekends, which is nice. It is also very affordably priced for a cut and all-over color...I've heard of people who pay double at other places to have same services done. They also do nails, pedi's and other spa services... Today I took a chance and got a mani @ Vicki's. I'm recovering from a nail fungus, from which I lost my thumb nail. I'm an industry professional, despite that I'm often looking for a quick "cheap" trip to the salon. Salons are places often where you get what you pay for. My technician was Vera, a pleasant friendly tech. Very engaging and kind. It's been many years since I studied nails in beauty school, Vera stayed true to many of those practices I'd long since forgotten. The "quick" nail shops do not practice those tried and true sanitation practices, that take a little longer, but believe me, they're worth it! Those that are here saying its too expensive have no idea why it's worth paying a few bucks more for clean, quality work that looks great. Vera is also a hair designer there, I'll have to give her a try sometime for a haircut. This coming from someone who hasn't paid for a haircut in years. Because I'm in the industry. Vicki's place has allowed me to trust nail technicians again after not being able to do so for a while. Thanks Vera, I had a nice relaxing manicure, and some great conversation! read more

Amanda does the best job I have ever had with my eyebrows and I love my hair whenever she's cut it, and she does a good job coloring too. I had a massage here once that was amazing as well. Their prices are not cheap, but they aren't obnoxiously expensive either. Nothing but great things to say about this place! location wise I love where it is located; it is close to both work and home and it is easy to get to and park. I stopped here once just to get brows done because I needed it badly and they were reasonable. The lady did a nice job at cleaning them up. I also just got a mani/pedi there and Hayley is amazing!!! Such a nice person to chat with and she let me try out a few different option before picking a color. Both dried quickly and it was overall quick nail appointment which I loved! They moved fast and I wanted an express pedi which I thought was nice they offered. I did not want to sit there for awhile. Overall, atmosphere is nice and everyone is friendly.
