Osteria Tressanti is the new name for Esse Osteria. The owners say they changed the name to go…read morealong with the change in concept: less chef-based, more classic. They slimmed the menu down to make it a little more rustic and now make food-stall appearances at some Berlin markets. Summary: The food is still excellent along with a small but very good wine selection, mostly Italian. The ambience is friendly neighborhood spot. I hadn't visited here in a while for three reasons: the pandemic, I don't live a block away like I used to, and the last time I came I got annoyed after sitting outside for a while and not getting served. I still find the service here... off-key. The people are nice but what is the deal with the service? In Germany the normal procedure is to signal the server that you want to pay, rather than the server bringing the bill to the table as in North America. At Osteria Tressanti are we supposed to flag down a server to order as well? After sitting down and being given a menu, I waited almost 30 minutes before my order was taken. The restaurant was not busy at all. I didn't receive the still water I ordered. Although a loaf of bread sat on a cutting board along with some baskets, I was not offered bread with olive oil, as you usually are at Italian restaurants. I *might* have ordered dessert and coffee with encouragement, but not a word about it. (The decor seems a tad rundown in the light, but maybe that is purposeful, a rustic charm?) That's not to say I was annoyed - the guys are really personable. They speak Italian, German, and English. When I said I wasn't sure on my wine order, the man gave me a few good samples to choose from so I could take my pick. I got a very tasty Amuse-Bouche with walnuts and creamy sauce. The Lasagna Classico, Carbonara, Tagliatelle alla Bolognese and Gnocchi stand out. So, I am still on Team Osteria Tressanti, and will keep coming back for the terrific food, Italian wine and the neighborhood vibe.

I recommend to try something from the raw antipasti, Chef uses fresh ingredients only! For pasta lovers there is the signature dish of carbonara with trufel. Perhaps my worst experience in a restaurant in a decade - and I eat out 3 times a week. Arrived…read moreexcited. My girlfriend and I are huge pizza fans, live close-by and were looking forward to a great pizza. We'd arrived the week before to find them unexpectedly closed and had returned to try again. Bit of a rocky start. 5EU for a 400ml diet coke... when the non dietcoke is 4.50? The standard price is 3.50 to 4 in every other restaurant within a mile or so. But... whatever... we get it. Some restaurants make money from their drinks when the food is cheap. We can dig it. But then... a. Coke arrives. 3/4 full glass. 1/3 full of ice. Sorry, we'd like it cold no ice. b. New drink arrives. It's totally flat. Not a single bubble. Seems it's been poured from the 2l bottle at the back of the fridge. Sorry, can we have one with bubbles? c. New drink arrives. It's still flat, but now, with a tiny slice of orange. As if to say... here you go you precious little babies, we've made you something for your over the top schmancy tastes. But it's been poured from the same, flat bottle, likely bought for around a buck from the supermarket. Totally sucked. We were made to fill like shit just for asking that for a cold coke with some bubbles. For 5EU it seemed like a reasonable enough request and no we didn't need to be made to feel precious for asking for it. We stood. We left. Never to return. Sux, as we live 300m away, and were hoping to make it a regular. We aren't cheap. We walked 300m to another restaurant and dropped 80EU on dinner. But gee whiz. Being made to feel like dirt for asking for something to be brought up to just the bare minimum acceptable standard? We don't need that kind of shit. Just apologise, sort the drink out, we all have a bit of a laugh and move on. Instead? Lost a customer forever and got this well deserved, scathing review. Can't comment on the food. We walked out before it arrived.

While there were…read moreenough tables to fit us all, the space is definitely not enough for the amount of people. Asked for the vegan option and had the choice of the daily dish (lemon risotto) or pasta pomodoro. I asked if they can add veggies or mushrooms, and the lady that took the order dropped the pen and went to clean the counter. While I appreciate the authentic Italian experience, I also appreciate lunches that keep me full. The guy took over, said "ok pasta pomodoro" and continued to take the order of my colleagues. The pasta arrived, the plate was big but the food was average and not really worth the 6,20€, because I know nicer restaurants right across the corner that would offer nicer food for the same price (and less). The colleagues who took the cannelloni were disappointed from the small size of the 3 cannelloni they received, and again the prices was fairly high (8,20€) for such a small lunch in this area. Added a picture of the pasta and the cannelloni. To summarize, crowded place during lunch, the staff is friendly if you keep it short and the dishes are ok-ish but don't justify the price.
