This garage is about a 5 to 10 minute walk from the station. The walk itself was very beautifully landscaped, with lots of flowers and overhead lights. The building itself from the outside is very impressive. Once you enter, there is a room that shows how the renovation was done over time. There is a section of wall that they left in its original state, covered in graffiti, so you knew what they were starting with. There are only two or three little stores to look at on the ground floor - a bookshop with some souvenirs, a coffee and donut shop, and a little gift shop. Otherwise, you just walk around and look at the beautiful architecture. The day we were there several areas were blocked off as they were preparing for what looked like a large wedding. It is a beautifully restored building, but from an entertainment standpoint, there wasn't much to do.

We boarded the train at Renaissance Center Station since we were staying at the Marriott Renaissance Center. It was easy enough to follow the signs to the People Mover and there it is! The station was clean of trash other than the slight smell of urine. Expected in a big city but still, disappointing. Both our morning and afternoon commute were uneventful and there was pretty low ridership. Of course, the remaining General Motors offices are in the Renaissance Center and the Marriott Hotel. Access to the Riverwalk, Mariner's Church and Hart Plaza are here. The People Mover is a simple loop with a baker's dozen of stations. It runs in one direction, counter-clockwise. Once you get your luggage, you'll have to follow the signs to an area across the arrival/departure roads, down the escalator, and to your designated area. There's plenty of signage. The bus/shuttle ride is about 15-20 minutes away. I also like the number of commuter counters they have. You know, those high-top tables where you can pull out your laptop and work, those. They had several throughout the airport.

Getting to Canada is a short drive under the Detroit River. It's the hard to believe the tunnel has been a daily underwater route since 1930. At its lowest point this 2 lane roadway goes 75 feet (23 m) below the river surface. It was always a treat to take the tunnel as a kid. On this recent trip (7-23-25) I met a few friends for dinner and some gambling after at Caesars Windsor. It's $8.25 USD to cross from Detroit and $7.75 CAD to come back from Canada. Make sure to have your passport or documentation ready as they check everyone at the border and being prepared helps expedite the process. Very rarely have we ever had back up traffic since I literally have crossed this tunnel no less than 100 times. Coming from the Detroit side, the payment to cross is now entirely electronic. no cash! If they think you have something suspicious or don't like your answer, you get pulled into the customs area and searched. Prepare to be there a very long time! They do have a duty free shop here for alcohol and a few other things as well. I can't remember where to pull off for this side of the tunnel, but it's somewhere if you need to. The walk will take about 10 or 12 minutes from end to end (if you use the slidewalks and they're not blocked by idiots). Or you can take the tram between the South Station, the Terminal Station and the North Station. The Express Tram was the first tram to run *inside* the terminal. Most other airports that have a tram operate underneath or outside. This one is entirely inside the terminal and not in a tunnel! Also, it's basically a horizonal elevator.
