My sweet potato of a boy has somehow decided that cheese tortellini is the epitome of fine dining,…read moreand in the interest of not having to cook too often, we've been on a quest to find the best tortellini in town. I thought the "soup of the day: cheese tortellini" sign...was a joke like "soup of the day: beer". No, that's really the soup option. Anyway, this one was close to his school, had a tortellini entree, and looked pretty good, so we decided to give it a whirl. We've gotten the last walk-in table twice now, at 5:45 pm. Which really gives me the warm fuzzies. It's a tiny space that seats maybe 20 folks; it's proud, not upscale, but not run down and reasonably busy. It's slightly claustrophobic, but in a way that implies they're prioritizing space for tables. It's the kind of place where you can just feel that the food is gonna be good. The kid got the cheese tortellini on both visits and will do so on every visit in the future for all of eternity. He decided he's not a fan of tortellini in soup form, so I get his soup. He rates the entree somewhere above HEB imported refrigerated variety and somewhere below his most beloved Pesto Restaurante, but I think if we tweak the sauce, we will get it dialed in ok. I've gotten Veal Francese both times, because I'm a monster, and when I see veal on a menu, I can't help myself. It was paired with a salad, and (my kid's) soup, and the entree was served with pasta al dente. Super filling and priced quite reasonably. It was delicious - I loved everything about it. Awesome little family-style place, great food, good atmosphere, ample parking. This one checks all the boxes.

The food was delicious, but unfortunately the experience with our server took away from the meal…read more At the end of our meal, we asked to split the check and it took a long. Our server was visibly upset about splitting the bill and seemed frustrated throughout the process. We gave her cash to put toward the bill and planned to pay the remaining balance by credit card, but she initially took the cash as a tip instead. When we clarified that the cash was for the bill, she seemed frustrated and said she didn't know how to fix it. Another server eventually had to step in. After we left we noticed we were billed incorrectly....... The food was great, but based on our experience, I'd recommend being prepared to pay the check all together. Splitting the bill seemed to be a major issue for our server.

I was excited to check this place out because I had heard good things. Unfortunately, I feel like…read moreit's a bit overhyped. As far as the food, we had the fried mozzarella, which was essentially a log of cheese deep-fried and served over sauce. It was delicious, but the cheese-to-crust ratio was a bit heavy. The Caesar salad looked better than it tasted. It was very wet, if that makes sense, and the lettuce seemed soggy. Now for the Wagyu ragu. This almost made me have a seizure, and not in a good way. It was extremely salty and completely inedible, so we had to send it back. The waitstaff was very accommodating and agreed that the salt level was way off, so we replaced it with the carbonara. I'm not sure if that's what authentic carbonara is supposed to taste like, but I did not enjoy it. It tasted burnt to me and had too much pepper. I also didn't care for the shape of the noodles. Last, we had the Americano pizza. It was decent, but nothing to write home about. I just think that if you're going to advertise a pizza with meat on it, there should be more than one piece of sausage per slice. As far as the service, our server was fine. Not particularly friendly, but straightforward and efficient. The manager (or another server) was helpful when it came to replacing our dish. Overall, I would not go back. The location is great and the vibe is nice, but the food was a miss. Save your money and go somewhere else.

The service wasn't as attentive as we've come to expect, and while the food was still good, it didn't seem to be the same quality as on our previous visits. Since moving back to the USA, this is the best pizza we have had. We drive about 45 minutes to Il Forno at least every other week for our favorite pizza. I've tried other pizza spots in the area and nothing comes close. We LOVE the hummus as an appetizer, best hummus in town by far! It has a little bit of a spice, not too spicy, with a hint of lemon flavor in the olive oil.... It's delicious!!! We typically order the traditional Margherita Pizza and the Intero (with different meats) and they are both excellent every time! This isn't the traditional American style, thick crust or deep dish pizza, like a lot of people in the states are use to. If you want to try true traditional Italian style pizza made with fresh ingredients, then try this spot out. They even make their own mozzarella Keep up the great work Il Forno!!
