It's never easy when your fur baby goes blind. My 13 year old Yorkie has been my ride or die since I was in college. The people at VOS welcome both of us with open arms, calmed my hysteria and treated my little girl as if she was their own. We have had several follow up appointments and it's not been the greatest news but I am so thankful for the team here. The follow up and check in on your and your pup. It wonderful to have somewhere that cares for your pet as much as you do. SO grateful for this specialty practice! Dr. Ben Bergstroms medicine is top notch! After our sphynx cat, Cowboy, has had some ongoing eye issues- we decided it would be best to take him to a specialist. We really appreciated Dr. Bergstroms approach of not wanting to start our cat on any eye medications until we get a definitive diagnosis. He gave us his thoughts of what he thought it might be (and test results confirmed he was spot on!) and explained what the treatment would entail and prognosis. He is very thorough, and has perfect bedside manner. Communication has also been stellar. Once the test results were in- he called me and explained how he would like to treat. At our recheck appointment he added in another eye medication which our cat did not handle well. I called the office to let them know & he immediately switched it to another medication. So I do appreciate the fact that he wants to make sure our cat is comfortable receiving the eye medications. Any time I had a question- their office was quick to check in with the Dr & call me back. Thanks to Dr. Bergstroms expertise- our cats eyes are back to looking big and beautiful! They have actually never looked quite this good before! BEYOND grateful. Also, their pricing seems up to par with other specialty practices. Personally, I don't put a price tag on my cats health, let alone the health of his eyes. Dr Bergstrom and his staff were spectacular. From our initial consultation for bilateral cataract surgery in our diabetic dog, everything was explained clearly and in as much detail as we wanted. Even the financial part! We were given printed handouts for preop instructions, postoperative care, and medication schedules. The surgery went well. Post operative visits confirmed their expertise and great care. The other impressive thing to me, as a physician, was their willingness to be available for calls, and questions. They were also easy to work with on scheduling changes. I would recommend Dr Bergstrom without any hesitation. read more

My chihuahua luxated her lens and was seen as an emergency. The staff was amazing - very welcoming and kind. They were very sweet to my pup, answered ALL of my questions, went over my options, and provided thorough instructions on after care. The doctor and technician were both excellent. They kept me posted on my pup's progress and got her back to me as soon as possible. I was looking for a Veterinarian to treat my dog's vision issue, but when I read their website I decided I couldn't support them. Their site states: "To help stop the spread of the Coronavirus, Veterinary Ophthalmology Services is reducing face-to-face interaction by asking all clients to remain in their cars and not enter the building. Bathrooms are available at CVS Pharmacy on Harding Place or Walmart on Powell Ave." Essentially, they are saying that they don't care if I get or spread Coronavirus at CVS or Walmart, which both have higher exposure risks than their office, but I cannot enter their facility even though they are being paid to treat my pet. At least be up front and say that you only care about your own exposure to the Coronavirus, rather than stating that sending clients to use highly frequented chain store restrooms is designed to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. read more

I had an excellent experience here! My dog had a previous injury in her left eye that has never been looked at by a specialist, and after she had green discharge come from her eye, I knew it was time for her to see one. Thankfully my dog's eye health was great! I saw Dr. Voyles, and she explained everything perfectly and took time to even draw the eye to show what was going on. In fact, the entire staff was wonderful. Oh, and the facility is GORGEOUS! All beautiful hardwood floors, big comfy couches, complimentary waters, French doors, you name it. For an initial exam and ointment for my dog's eye was $160. I felt that was fair for the fact that we went to see a specialist. I'm sure the price fluctuates depending on the problem though, so always call for a quote. read more

I would not recommend visiting VOS Chattanooga for your dog! Our 11 month old puppy was referred to them with a very swollen eye and eye lid. They diagnosed based on previous patients they had seen and medicated for trauma. We called between appointments as my dog seemed in pain and we were referred back to our usual veterinarian. When we returned for a check up on Monday, they ran bloods and we realized that the infection was actually bacterial. The medication she had been on were steroids so had not inhibited the infection spread at all. On discovering this, they referred us to another veterinarian (passed the book so to speak), which is so disappointing, especially when her other eye was now showing infection. The swelling in the 'bad' eye was decreasing but our poor baby died due to the infection, 2 days later. Its no good saving the eye, but not the dog! Save your family the heart ache and loss that we are experiencing. Go to a veterinarian that can do systemic work to!!!! read more

We called the VOS on Gun-barrel Rd because of our dog Lucky who will be 14 next month had a problem with his eye. They got him in the next morning because they didn't want to wait due to his pain. I pulled up and they have a great routine that they do since Covid. The nurses and the doctor was great! If I could give them 10 stars I would. We are very pleased with the service and going over the problem and each medicine that he would be needing to care for his eye. read more

My dog acquired glaucoma 18 months ago in her right eye. We whisked her to VOS immediately to seek their expert advice. Unfortunately, she did not respond to treatment. We had to make the sad decision to remove her eye. Fast forward to about a month ago and bad genes strike again.....my poor sweet dog was struck with glaucoma in her remaining eye. We were warned this may happen if it was genetic but of course we hoped it wouldn't happen. Again, no response to treatment. My dog is just about the sweetest in the whole world and she's been dealt a terrible hand. She was born with a severe defect in her rear leg so it was amputated at 4 months of age. Then glaucoma at age 4 1/2 years, and then completely blind at age 6. Glaucoma is extremely painful and it can't be left untreated.....so, we made the most difficult of choices to date which was to remove her remaining eye. Clearly, I was emotional over this. VOS however, gave us every option and made us feel alright with the decision we made. Dr. Huskey and technicians Maggie and Andrea were especially sweet to us during this very difficult time. I'm happy to report that Kangaroo, my sweet shiba inu, is doing extremely well given her many "handicaps". I give major praise to the wonderful professionals at VOS. Thank you! read more

My english bulldog puppy had entropion surgery on December 18, 2014. I had been seeing Dr. Meredith L. Voyles since November for his eye issues. I was very nervous from the get go w/this surgery, and I had made Dr. Voyles aware of my concerns... she assured me that she performed surgery on "many" bulldogs, and everything would be fine. The surgery went fine, and my puppy was in recovery when things went wrong... HORRIBLY wrong. He started having breathing issues, which is normal for english bulldogs but then things escalated quickly. I was asked to rush him to the the local emergency vet clic where within several minutes he died. Dr. Voyles and her associate were w/me when he died at the clinic. In Dr. Voyles defense, I will say that she tried to contact me after a couple of days... and I did NOT answer my phone. I couldn't at the time, I was still in shock over what had happened. I have grappled w/writing this review over the last couple of months... it's been very painful and difficult for me. I wanted to wait until I was emotionally ready, so that I could make an honest review instead of being emotional about it. I don't believe that Dr. Voyles did anything negligent to kill my puppy, but to be honest I really don't know what happened... she has NOT contacted me NOR has the VOS clinic to explain to me what happened. The emergency clinic sent me a letter explaining their take on the situation... and of course they NEVER want to point fingers. I would NOT recommend VOS clinic to anyone to perform surgery on their dogs. Specifically because IF there is an emergency situation they obviously do NOT have the means to help your animal. I don't understand WHY I had to drive my puppy grasping for air to an emergency clinic. It's a miracle we even made it there in one piece... I understand that emergencies happen, but this was horrible for me to experience. And then of course the absence of any explanation or even a card expressing condolences... talk about adding injury to insult. read more

I drove from Memphis to see Dr. Larrata with Sally who had sudden onset glaucoma. The vet eye specialist in Memphis wanted to remove the eye and I just couldn't do that without another opinion. Dr. Larrata said he could save the eye but she did lose vision. Sally is now recovering and pain free. Dr. Larrata is professional, compassionate, and one heck of a nice guy. The support staff provided clear instructions on eye care, gave expectations of the future, and even called a few days later to see how she was doing. This is a fine team of folks and I would not hesitate to make the drive again. read more

I have been in some very very nice doctors offices. This facility trumps all and it's an animal clinic. No I mean seriously it's the nicest medical office I've ever been in. I mean look at the exterior; it's cutesy colonial. Inside you enter the main lobby (yes there is more than one lobby) I was so flustered the day my kitty and I visited that I cannot remember for sure, but I do believe they have white marble floors in this main lobby. After I checked in and received my very small amount of paper work, we were sent to the second lobby and invited to eat the free snacks and sodas located in an adjoining room. The second lobby had, I swear it, no less than 10 overstuffed couches and I'm pretty sure a fire place plus two flat screen TVs. The day had been extremely stressful and as soon as I sat down in one of those overstuffed couches I completely checked out, until our names were called. We had been referred to VOS by our regular vet at the Value Vet on Main Street in East Nashville. Our kitty Brisby showed up the evening before, squinting in one eye and upon closer inspection it appeared to be bleeding under the lens. This was extremely alarming and very early the next morning we rushed her to Value Vet. They said, when it comes to eyes and cats, it's a very bad idea to take any chances and immediately sent a fax to the VOS people stating we had an emergency situation. So I found myself rushing home in the middle of a work day to pick up Brisby and run her over to VOS. Brisby, bless her little heart, was so tolerant and patient the whole time we waited in the VOS lobby, even though she had already been to Value Vet earlier in the morning. She sat in her carrier, quiet as a mouse (just like her namesake: Mrs. Brisby from the Secret of NIMH). When we were called to the exam room she was weighed and measured and put up with it all. When the eye specialist came in, we wrapped her up in a towel, like a little purrito and the doc preformed a bunch of tests to try to determine what may be causing the issue. He said the most likely explanation was that she 'smacked her face on something and the bleeding was caused by this' since there was no scratch he could see. Since she was still active, eating and drinking it wasn't likely to be anything more serious BUT she would need eye drops, an oral antibiotic and to return in a week, since many eye conditions may take a lot of time to develop. Although I'm glad we went to the specialist I sort of wondered after looking over the invoice how each individual eye test that took two seconds of poking and prodding really was worth $20 each. I guess that's how they pay for the marble floors. Not to sound too negative, they were lovely people and very accommodating. It actually didn't turnout to be as expensive as I thought in the end and Brisby is back to being %100. PS the towel purrito method is seriously the best way to administer medication to your cat, they can't move and scratch you. It's like the Thunder Jacket concept, they feel secure. read more

I had a 11:20 appointment at the Murfreesboro location and got out of there at 12:45. How can they not plan their schedule better? How hard is it? When the appointment was nearly done they said, "you want us to trim the hair around his eyes" and I said "sure". Thanks for not informing me that was another $15 when I told them I have a grooming appointment in two days. Next time I will drive all the way to Nashville and hope for better service. read more

This place goes above and beyond in everything they do!! I have been bringing my older pug here for quite some time. I just started bringing my younger pug for some eye issues. They have done an amazing job. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my pups eyeballs! I had an emergency over the weekend and the doctor on call called me within 15 minutes. When you combine the speciality skills and the 5 star customer service you get something pretty amazing! That goes for everyone there! Our Great Dane had a case of "cherry eye" and we heard good things about the work they had done with other dogs. After the first surgery the problem was not resolved. After they operated again it was better but not resolved. Now 4 years later my poor dogs eyes look like a Basset Hound's and it looks as if he will eventually need to have more corrective surgery. I was contacted by VOS after posting a review which went a long way in redeeming them and asked to schedule a follow up. I am hopeful my poor middle aged Dane will be the better off for it. read more

Just Recently I took my beloved 12 yr old Chihuahua Noel in to see Dr. Larrata. He informed me she had a luxating lens, her left lens had fully detached and when it would fall forward it would put pressure on the optic nerve which was not comfortable for her at all and would lead to blindness. Noel is my oldest fur baby as I have 3 and all of them are the loves of mine my husbands life. Not to choose favorites but Noel is my first pet and I've had her for almost all my adult life pre- marriage and so she is very special to me. The staff at VOS are absolute miracles!!!!! Not only do they understand that these pets are your children but the amount of compassion and intelligence is overwhelming!!! They truly have saved my Noel's vision and I thank God everyday i walked in that office. Everyone there from the front door staff to the Vet assistants to Dr. Larrata himself are amazing!!
