I've taken Lucy here quite a few times, and working with Dr. John Warren was priceless. All the staff here had been absolutely fantastic and I'd not want Lucy's surgeries done anywhere else. Though we had to move very suddenly, so I did have to try elsewhere, and after experiencing some other eye clinics in these other states, we decided it's much better to travel out of state to see the best instead of settling. First they wanted to book an appt for me a month away, which is ridiculous for someone who has a dog that just suddenly went blind. I need answers, they need to figure out a way to fast track people and pets in need who are deeply worried about their loved ones. A month is RIDICULOUS. The vet tech was great, but the Dr who saw my dog only used the most complex medical terminology when talking to me. I was so lost! You don't have to show off your medical dictionary smarts when talking to the customer! Explain things simple. He asks, "So he had a synfrological diamaredian when he was five?" I'm like, WHAT? I go oh, you mean he had his kidney was removed? WHO TALKS LIKE THAT? Never met a vet nor doctor who communicated this poorly. Work on that! He did not even give me the brass tax that my dog won't be able to ever get his vision back. Just said what he thought was happening and didn't say anything after. Thanks for charging me and never telling me what I came there to find out. He asked if he could take a blood pressure test which turned out to be crucial. But he never said it was an additional charge! For a blood pressure test!? Nobody charges separately for a blood pressure test! I don't care how fancy your equipment is, it should not be an additional charge. I called to question it and they were very clear that they should have notified me about the additional charge but were COMPLETELY unwilling to to try and resolve it somehow. They said, "Oops, our bad. Deal with it sucker." Awful. Another phone call with Jennifer there, she was so rude. Like, I'm a client of yours and you're going to start arguing with me. Just send me the refill and don't argue about it. Bedside manner is not good at this place. There are other eye places around town, I wish I would have gone to one of those instead. read more

We were referred to VEI and Dr. Telford, and even though a trip to the ophthalmologist and the news that comes with it are nowhere near the top of anyone's list, the staff made the entire experience better than I could've imagined. After running a few tests and being super gentle with my girl, Dr. Telford broke down his findings and impressions about our dog's vision problem. Even though the news as a complete bummer (PRA), I was impressed by the amount of clear information they provided and the fact that if we had any questions, they'd be there to answer them. We were referred here by our vet after our dog Bella starting squinting and rubbing her eyes. The staff here is amazing, and Dr. Warren has been a Godsend. Long story short, our dog is slowly going blind, but thanks to the care she has received here, the process has been slowed, and the distress and discomfort she showed before she was diagnosed has gone away, and she's back to her playful, goofy self. Everyone I have encountered both here and at their Dallas office has been not only extremely professional and competent, but also unbelievably kind and empathetic. When I first started looking for a vet ophthalmologist, I couldn't believe how VEI got so many 5 star reviews. I was tired of all of my poor puppy's eye issues, so I decided to give them a try, and am so so so thankful I did. It only took the first phone call to start understanding how they have such amazing reviews. Oliver, my 7 month old shih tzu, developed cherry eye in both eyes at around four months, which was surgically repaired by his vet. About a month later, we noticed that he started squinting his left eye. After five visits to his vet over a span of two weeks (totaling around $500 for exams, fluorescein stain, antibiotics, etc), all he was diagnosed with was a corneal ulcer which his vet suspected was due to some gravel getting into his eye. The ulcer was not healing and progressively worsening, so finally, I called VEI upset and in a panic. They could hear how stressed I was and managed to squeeze me in for a same day appointment with Dr. Warren. As soon as I told Dr. Warren what had been going on, he said "I bet it's from suture rubbing his eye" - it took him less than 10 seconds to diagnose what his vet had missed five times! He put a contact lens in to serve as a barrier between the suture and corneal ulcer that had formed, and Oliver was opening his eye fully for the first time in weeks within a minute. His corneal ulcer went on to heal fully in no time at all! Oliver's eye issues didn't end there - his right cherry eye prolapsed again a few weeks later and his vet said this would be a very complicated surgery that couldn't be done for at least a few months (I know...we bought a puppy plan with his vet so unfortunately have to take him back there to get his care still). I made an appointment with Dr. Warren, who scheduled him for surgery two days later. When I picked up Oliver post-op, I wouldn't have even known he had had surgery if it wasn't for the fixed cherry eye - he was the happiest pup and clearly so well taken care of all day! We just had our two week post-op check and Oliver (finally) has a clean bill of health! A very long post all to say that VEI deserves every single five star review on here. Sure, it's pricier to go to a vet ophthalmologist, but as I learned the hard way, it pays off in the long run. I will never trust anyone else with Oliver's eyes again! read more

Dr. Soler is too inexperienced to treat your pet. Do NOT let her near your pet. There are many experienced vets in the practice. We were there several years ago but the vet we saw wasn't taking new patients. We weren't a new patient but we trusted that the new vet would be acceptable. She was not. We have been to many vets and my dog is very particular. She knows if a person really cares. Please make sure you read the bios and choose your specialist carefully. I recommend that Dr. Soler find another occupation. read more

This is supposed to be a specialized vet service for eyes. The doctor who did 2 surgeries on my dog (the first one didn't work) was not a board certified ophthalmology vet. Just some young guy doing his rotation. My poor dog went through 2 painful and expensive surgeries at this place. I had to take her to a real ophthalmology vet where she had to have her eye removed. Because of that vet at this place she died of the cancer he did not know how to remove. Don't let the nice building and cheerful front staff fool you. They allowed an incompetent doctor to drag us through unskilled procedures that cost thousands and eventually my pet's life. I would have spent any amount to make sure she got proper care but due to their arrogance she's dead. read more

Brought our 9 year old chocolate lab here after we noticed cataracts and an obvious lack of vision. All came along very quickly and we were very concerned. Was able to get an appointment with Dr. Warren and the moment we arrived at the Institute we realized we were in the right place and our Shane would be in the best possible hands. The staff was very considerate, involved and reassuring as they performed the preliminary tests necessary to diagnose the severity of the issue. Dr Warren came in and after reviewing the data told us our boy was in need of cataract surgery and he could be expected to return to 100% sight. At that time he had little peripheral vision. Surgery was scheduled and performed and immediately Shane had complete vision. Every visit for follow up was a repeat of a staff that was concerned, informative and glad to see Shane. (we had already paid for the service and they still cared!). Dr Warren was very happy with the results and the way Shane had progressed. i cannot more highly recommend this experience and the support of Dr Warren and his staff. We had our last follow up today and every step of this process has been perfect. Our furry kids are special to us and this staff shows in actions that they are special to them. i forgot to mention after the surgery, they called to see how Shane was and if we had any questions. Our lovely Venus, an 11 year old Boxer, woke up one day with a painful inflamed eye. I took her to my general veterinarian and he immediately referred us to the Veterinary Eye Institute. She had to have a complete enucleation and she was cared for wonderfully by the whole staff here. We have completed our treatment and have been back for all of our follow up visits. The doctors are caring, honest, and take time to answer all of our questions. Many people complain about the fees and follow up visit cost but these are highly specialized Vets with great talent and compassion! They explain all of their fees up front, there were no surprises. Dr. Warren is the best. Have been seeing him since he's been in Plano with my cats eye issues. I can't compliment him more than by just simply saying "your pets are in the best possible hands with Dr. Warren!" He and his incredible staff are there to make every visit as comfortable as possible for you and your pet. They really care about you too and make sure you understand all about the disease or issues your pet is dealing with so you know as much about the issues as possible. This helps you help your pet by knowing what they might be dealing with and how you can help them when they are at home or otherwise in your care. All 3 of my cats (2 were brothers) had significant eye issues which Dr. Warren has treated. Two were pretty major issues while one only has some significant allergies that make his eyes get crusty at times. My cats have never been afraid of going or being there because everyone has always treated them gently and kept this mom and her cats comfortable. In short, Dr. Warren and his wonderful staff are absolutely amazing. I'm so thankful we have this wonderful specialty practice so close!! read more

Worse decision I ever made. Dr. Warren assured me Billy was a PERFECT candidate for cataract surgery. Within weeks after surgery Billy was completely blind. I wish Dr. Warren would of been more up front & honest about the possible risks.....never mentioned. Billy died without his sight. I am haunted by this everyday. I gave my review a 3, only because of cost. They were above great on my puppies eye surgery, but I feel their fees were exceptionally high. They did give me an estimate up front, but not with breakdowns. After the surgery, they gave me a break down. I was charged a $500 emergency fee , when I was told they had a opening to do the surgery. And after research of the 5 medications my puppy had to have, I found they charged me 2- 3 times the cost of online prices. So for surgery to 1 eye that had an ulcer I was charged $2859.56. read more

Not happy with being overcharged for a follow up visit after a procedure done on my fur baby. Spent $175 for the initial visit, $350 for the procedure & $88 for the follow up after the procedure. All prior facilities which our pets have had procedures done at, follow ups have been part of the procedure cost. After I voiced my concerns, I was dismissed stating each time a visit is done there is a charge. Money hogging business practice is probably an understatement. There wasn't even a follow up done from the staff after the procedure. Not happy overall. read more

Haven't done a review in awhile... My poor Buster needed eye surgery recently. My vet at Katy Trail Animal Hospital recommended Dr. Warren (who incidentally is NOWHERE near KTAH) and he and his staff have been nothing but great. Dr. Warren was very straight with me on his diagnosis and what I should expect. The surgery went off without a hitch and my dog is noticeably much more comfortable now and hopefully will get to keep his vision for years to come. Buster is actually excited to see everyone there when we go. The place is super far for me but other than that I've been very happy and would recommend it to anyone with a furry friend :) read more

DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE IF YOUR LOOKING FOR HELP WITH CHERRY EYE!! I made and appointment here to get my dogs eye examined. Though I don't know what exactly they did. I specifically asked for information only on the cherry eye surgery he needed, and of course, they brung back a paper trying to pitch entropion surgery on both eyes along with it instead of just what I asked.They actually spent more time writing up a surgery bill than they did examining my pet!. Lastly, when asked if I had any more areas of concern I asked if they could check my dog ears as he had previously had a slight ear infection I wanted to be sure wasn't returning. The lady immediately threw her hand up and said no we dont do that! I was shocked! I understand this place specializes in eyes but for an $180 "exam" they could've put my pet first and at least taken 2 seconds and checked. Found another place $600 cheaper than their quote (especially with the high chance he might need surgery a second time) This place might be great for other pet eye problems but I recommend looking elsewhere for cherry eye help. We had to go back because of the stitches coming out too early and of course I freaked out and Dr. Warren met us in his office on Saturday morning. Told me not to alarmed, yeah right! And he took care of it right then at no additional cost. Then called during the day and for two days afterwards to check on my dog and myself. He wanted to make sure I was ok. Excellent business! Everything is top notch... facility is beautiful and clean. Staff members are great... all of them friendly and accommodating, from the front desk staff, to the techs, to the dr (I've seen Dr Pierce twice -- the man knows his stuff!). Darius is a great tech -- super friendly, great sense of humor to make you feel at ease. As for cost, pleasantly surprised! Thought it'd be a lot more considering it's a specialty. Side note: my first visit I was privy to being at the clinic at the same time as another patient, a dog who was there for a follow up from cataract removal -- the dog was SO happy to be able to see the world again... it was super cute hearing /seeing how excited that little dog was. I can't say enough good things about Dr Warren and his team at Veterinary Eye Institute. We were referred to Dr Warren 3 or 4 years ago when our vet saw some cause for concern during our dog Maggie's checkup. Turns out she has some age related degeneration issues (she is around 18 years old) that can be slowed/controlled with eye drops and care from the team at VEI. We only need to bring Maggie here annually for checkups, and we are always happy to see Dr Warren and his team. They really seem to have a heart for our 4-legged friends. I was literally in the office 5 minutes from check in to check out and was charged $87 with the actual "recheck" taking 90 seconds!!! The most asinine charge I have ever seen. I feel compelled to write a review of the VEI - they did a great job with my dog Dinner. After being referred here by our vet, I was a bit anxious about driving all the way to North Plano, but once we were checked in and seen there was no doubt they had the absolute best interest of my pet and me in their mind. First off, this place runs like clock work - the front desk staff is excellent. The Vet Tech's were gentle and explained everything as they were doing things and lastly Dr Pierson surely knows what she is looking at and doing when it comes to issues with the eye. I feel completely confident in their treatment plan and the information I received when I asked questions. Dr. Warren gave my pet an accurate diagnosis on our first visit. He ordered a prescription and said come back in three weeks for a follow up. Of course, with first class care, there is a first class price tag. Completely understandable. I was totally expecting it. They have to make money to stay in business and keep the place looking this good. There was only one reason I couldn't give five stars - the follow up visit lasted less than five minutes, but came with another hefty price. He looked at her, told me how much better she looked, took a picture, and we were done. That fast. A hundred bucks. Ouch. I was NOT expecting to pay a hundred dollars for that. Our little cow dog, Scooter, had a luxated (displaced lens), very, very painful and traumatic. We were able to get Scooter into Dr Warren right away and he removed the eye on a Friday evening.
