The mix of people in El Cajon has changed in the last 25 years. When it comes to thrift stores, this affects the type and quality of items that get donated. So I'm not finding as much that is interesting to me in thrift stores here now. But occasonally I do. I've bought tools here, and recently saw some higher-end headphones in a cabinet for a reasonable price considering the high retail price. To the management: I wish more items in cabinets were placed so it was possible to see what they are without asking for assistance from the few employees. Or put a note on them with the basic info. The same for items behind the counter. We can't buy them if we can't see what they are. read more

They sell everything! This is one of the last thift stores that offer good bargins! Things are priced to sell, clothing is organized well, and it's a large store. My favorite finds are children's clothing, glassware, small appliances, and those odd finds! A treasure hunt. read more

Went here years ago when it was Anvets. Now it'd Dav. It's not a bad second hand store have some good deals some times. Service was Good this time going in. 5 out of 5 stars. **May 2023: Sunday Afternoon** This is a pretty big warehouse with ample parking. Half of the space is dedicated to clothes and the other half is for furniture. The prices aren't extremely cheap, but they are better than consignment store prices. Items are priced a tad over what I usually would pay for items, but there's a lot of items to look through and you may score a hidden gem. I was looking for pieces to supplement a costume and found the perfect shoes that were in near new condition for $12.95. First and last time visiting. I was super excited to find a knee scooter I have a bad ankle and wanted to see if the wheels were good. Employee Amparo told approached me as I was checking the scooter that it's not a toy that it's for sale and I was highly disappointed considering I'm a grown adult. I was truly needing one. I was more disappointed to find Amparo was the supervisor not only was her tone inappropriate as well as her judgement. As a supervisor myself I would never speak to anyone in the manner she did, I felt like my mother was getting me in trouble. Whoever is in the back pricing things is completely delusional and blind. Maybe if they could look up from Price comparing things online they'd seen some reality. The jewelry is over priced. The knock off handbags are not even worth talking about and the place is always understaffed, but still greedy. It used to be good but over the years it's just become a joke. Examples of items and their prices include a couch totally clawed up and destroyed by cats that is $189. A completely rusted through barbecue grill from 20 years ago that is $150. And a dry rotted pair of snow shoes from the 1970s that are $50. It's like they don't realize people bring this junk here because they don't want to pay to take it to the dump. read more

Not only is this store way overpriced and they never really have good sales but if you buy something that may not work when you get home.... don't do it because you cannot even get store credit if that happens. I went in tonight to try to buy a steam mopper for $20 and asked the girl just because the light comes on if I get home and it doesn't actually work can I bring it back and at least get store credit and they told me no. That's big time BS. Right down the street is McAlister's thrift store, everything in that store is half off every day all day, they're way better and they will take stuff back. read more

Just left, after buying a 2.95 cent lampshade, was charged 425, after I get to Sprouts,my job, I though wow. Sale tax was a dollar? So I called the lady that sold it to me answered the phone. She said she didn't see a tag, so charged me 395. First of all ticket can't be much more visible, and they don't sell anything without a tag, I call it petty theft read more

I would simply like to point out what may have been mentioned by other customers. Overpriced. Several hard good items I thought about buying today but decided to check online first. This store was almost a dollar more than a brand new one. Now I can understand if this was every once in awhile but this is every single time I visit. Somewhere along the line the concept of thrift store seems to have faded. And I'll bet a lot of these stores are wondering why they're not hitting their numbers. Either that perhaps training your staff. Or maybe somebody who's been pricing for a long time needs to graduate to a different position let someone new take care of it. anyway this has been going on for quite a while now today I decided that I'm tired of it and I'm going to write a review and tell everybody. Then on the side note all the thrift stores are actually overpriced when you think about it particularly Goodwill. Wasn't too long ago when you could get a blouse at Goodwill for 279. That same box now is almost 9 bucks. I think.... Never mind. I caught myself LOL cuz I almost said something about Trump. Probably time for us all to start minding our P's & Q's in this new era. My father, who is a disabled Vietnam veteran and I were checking out and of course my father showed his Veteran card to which the cashier said she would have to show it to her supervisor who said in front of my father in the most disrespectful way "Well I guess we can honor his card" Yes, the card is old and beaten up just like my father who was drafted into a war he did not want to fight in. But these young women who said this to my father acted as if he offended them. I would like to say to them...Fuc U !!! read more

This is a decent thrift store. They have a couple different colored tags that are discounted daily, there's always a few people restocking the store. It is well lit, and has a good sized parking lot. I do find that some of the stuff for sale is a little over priced, but overall they have a great selection, and it is definitely not as expensive as Goodwill or Salvation Army. read more

First time here, I was curious about this store, looking for bargains I found some! They have a large selection of bedsheets and furniture all in good condition. Pretty fair pricing, and they do tag color sales. My biggest issue is there is no where to try anything on!!!

We usually go to the thrift store for odds and ends , Yesterday Sunday we set out to go there was an exercise chair that looked good to me , so I made sure legs were on the ground and started to try it out and fell flat on my butt and arms and back I was hurting I went up to the counter and asked the lady I found out later she was the manager about the chair and if it was really $75 and I told her I fell and it really hurt she said I'll give it to you for $25 .. she didn't care that I was hurt , or ask if I was ok !!!continue shopping I didn't think it was worth even $25 because it was probably broken!!! I can't believe she's the manager for one thing and I don't think I'll ever go back in that store again!!! This was one of my frequented haunts back in the day. Loved trolling thrift stores to find little odds and ends when looking to add elements to my place. They've moved things around a bit but still mostly all the normal sections there. Shoes got moved towards front of the aisles along with other reorganization to help the flow of people. Associates are out restocking and handling business. Not really chatty or personable but they're on the job so don't really expect too much. Pricing got a tad better then I remembered, assume they changed things to help move product along and clear the store. As in the past it was always over cluttered to the point of feeling like you were in a hoarders stash. A line started forming behind me as I was waiting and another cashier stepped in to help out so I did very much appreciate the short wait in line. All in all a good thrift store to check out if you just want to look for odd and ends or other items you may need ie wall art, house hold goods, etc... Plus you help support Veterans. God bless the men and women that serve or have served in the armed forces. We can never fully repay the sacrifices they have made for our country. read more

I am sorry to say this place has really gone down hill. It used to be my favorite thrift store. I am so sick of the problems here. It's always a different staff and manager. Today is the second time I've shopped and gotten to the counter only to find THE SIGNS HANGING ARE WRONG. They don't honor their mistakes. Half the items I pick up are missing tags. I shop here on a regular basis...lately thou prices have went up on the should be cheapest items...i hope they dont get like Goodwill on 2nd where I will no longer shop due to manager service amd prices. Come on Dav have experienced pricers.. I went into the store and found a coat rack...it was wobbley and used and they had 15.00 on it I talked with the manager and told her I could buy it brand new for that and asked if she would come down on price she said no more than 12.00...it was maybe worth 5 if that..i put it back along with half of the items i was going to purchase. Great Service and fast Checkout - We found a very nice refrigerator at this thrift store. The staff was friendly, especially Rodney who helped us measure the size. Sign Up For Email Coupons The DAV has done a great job! Re-hired the previous workers and made Shannon the Manager. (That was a good move). I'm a firm believer in re-hiring good staff. I always find what I'm looking for and the prices can't and I mean can't, be beat. This absolutely gives the shopper the best product, for the value. Lots of vintage treasures! Give it a try because the prices are better than Goodwill. P.S. True, there's no public access to the restroom but, if they had one it would have to be ADA & OSHA approved. Which would mean higher prices and work overload for the multi-tasking employees that already are a jack of all trades. Use it before you shop.. :) read more

Great place to get one of a kind gifts that others donated, plus they help with veterans. I had a storage unit with bulky items that I couldn't empty out myself. One of my favorite thrift shops. THE best in El Cajon/East County if you ask me. Cant believe I've never reviewed this place before, I go all the time. It is a bit disorganized compared to some but its BIG so its worth the browse. They have a good selection of housewares, shoes and books. Clothes are a hit or miss since everything is so disorganized, it doesnt make browsing very easy. I usually give up after awhile since its just too messy. But definitely worth a stop. They take credit cards so no need to bring your cash! read more

I called DAV for a large donation pick up. I was assigned a date and told I didn't have to be home. I could leave the items outside. I hired 2 men to help me move furniture, desks, etc. to my driveway. DAV never showed up. Then when I emailed and asked... what happened. They tried to lie to me and say they were there, rang my doorbell - no one was home and that they called and left me a voice mail. I never received a call or voicemail and my property cameras did not pick up anyone coming to my door or on my driveway. DAV needs to have better employees that are honest. It is a shame that I am unable to donate to them, my dad was a Disabled Veteran from Vietnam. SHAME ON YOU DAV!!!!!! read more

This store was ok... it is a thrift store, and since I have worked in this business, I just wish they would get into the 21 century.. They still staple things to items, which is a huge no-no.. nothing is organized as far as v clothes. no colors no departments..just hung on racks.. would have liked to find exercise clothes and not have to go through all tops and pants.. Three stars because the staff is friendly only. I've been coming here since it opened last year and I've seen a drastic difference in pricing and how long items sit in the store. Hell, there's a dress that's been on the racks for a year... I kid you not. The prices have gotten progressively higher and the racks are cram packed because merchandise just isn't moving. Many times I've heard the associates comment that they have no room to put out new stuff. Also, more than once the cashiers tell me that something was "priced wrong" and changed the price on me at checkout to a higher price.
