The campsites were fine, some more separate and shady than others, but pretty standard and basically what I expected. Had no problem with the one we stayed at. The kids appreciated the playground tons. When we were there the lake was having an algae bloom, so we were disappointed not to be able to swim, but that wasn't something anyone could control. (Didn't love the trucked-in construction sand on the beach, though - I didn't even want to be down on the beach with that rough stuff!). The biggest issue we had was cars. We had 2, and had registered them when we reserved the campsite online. It wasn't until we arrived, though, that anyone said anything about having to pay a per-night fee to park them. You'd think this would be rolled into the cost for the site, charged when you register, or at least MENTIONED before you arrive. But no. So only when we checked in did we find out we were basically paying for another night of camping to just have our cars there. Our campsite only had enough gravel parking for one car, so we parked the other as close to it as we could and thought we were fine. Nope, the park hosts came by and told us we couldn't park the cars side-by-side. So we moved them to be front-to-back on our site, and the hosts said that was fine. The next morning a park worker came by and told us we couldn't park them THAT WAY, and that they didn't want cars possibly leaking on the grass. If they allow two cars per site (and make you pay for it) and don't want cars off the gravel, they need to gravel for two cars per site, otherwise change the parking allowances (and costs). This especially didn't make sense as we were in a loop that also allowed campers and trailers, which were definitely parked on the grass. Overall the campsite and amenities were fine, and this would be a four-star review if not for the inconsistent, misleading treatment of the cars you use to get to this campground.

There's always something to do no matter the season. Parking is $8, and on busy days you might wait a few minutes, but it's worth it. At the entrance, you'll get a helpful map (also available online) that shows all the trails and recreation options. We parked near the boat launch and took the 1.5-mile loop to the waterfall, a beautiful, family-friendly walk with no complaints from the kids! The waterfall itself is stunning. We kicked off our shoes, dipped our feet in the cool water, and climbed around the rocks above the falls. There are more challenging hikes if you're feeling adventurous, and it's only about 10 minutes to great Hudson riverfront dining afterward. We left smiling and saying, "That was so fun maybe we should get an annual pass!

This is my secondary visit where we came for a short hike to the falls with our dogs. If you are not from WI, be prepared to pay a few extra dollars more as a non-resident. My family parked near the entrance and used the trail next to the parking lot. There is a giant hill leading down to the falls which means the hike back is tough and almost breathless. I personally feel like seeing the falls makes it all worth it. When arriving at the falls, there are such a wide variety of humans who are climbing, swimming, sitting in nature, enjoying picnics, taking pictures and even knitting. While we typically do the quick falls hike, know that multiple trails exist and that maps will be provided upon entry. Enjoy!!

This campground is 5 stars all around and we will definitely return…read more There are no sewer hook ups so you kind of have to use their restrooms/showers unless you drive to the dump station if you are staying for a week.. thus, the drop in a star (to be mentioned below) The GOOD: Pretty much everything! Lots of shade, big sites, signs everywhere to find your way, TONS of trails, dog friendly, friendly staff.. Bunker beach is walking distance, the activity/event center is gorgeous. There are stables at the regional park as well as the stunning golf course that we did not use. Just absolutely beautiful grounds. Bring a bike or take some long hikes. Maps are well marked and so much to see! Our California campgrounds are not this green and lush or have sites so spacious so we LOVED that! The BAD: Spiders (Daddy long legs) everywhere.. we sprayed eco friendly bug spray each day around the picnic table, tent and trailer and helped a bit.. but after 3 spiders on the window curtain next to my bed in he RV and a big old spider ON my bed.. I had a big more compassion for my boys in the tent with too many of them to count on top of the tent. Bathrooms - need to be cleaned as the sinks were pretty gross on most occasions. The water in the shower? I froze for all 3 showers and there is no way to control the hot/cold, no water pressure (which is kind of common at campgrounds) but not even a spray.. just a slow trickle/stream from the shower except in the family bathroom, a faint spray (also cold). Oddly, my boys showered once in the men's showers and said it was too hot, they had to get out. The showers were also unpleasant with spiders everywhere, moths flying at you from every direction. There were grasshoppers in abundance as well, but the moths were pretty disgusting. The GOOD FAR FAR outweigh the BAD and definitely recommend a stay here. It IS camping so just expect a lot of bugs around and you won't be disappointed!

One barking dog (a permanent camper) , slimy swimming area, had to share fire pit with strangers (site next to ours), the outdoor game room is run down and useless because the fooseball table is broken, ping pong table has no net but yet still talked about on the website as if you could play with them. Both game tables where on top of the shuffle board area so you couldn't play on it. No log roller in the lake either like it shows on website. Upsides.. love the People!! from the owners and the staff to the other campers. Great camp store, my kiddos fished off the dock for hours all week! Kids enjoyed feeding the animals, the bikes to rent, great playgrounds, the one by the office was my kids favorite. They where never board. Not to busy during the week but weekends are very busy. The rentals are affordable but be sure to find out ahead of time to know when you can rent. All in all it's a nice campground close to home. Hopefully they can update their website to show current activities that they really do offer. Tips; bring beach toys and water toys to keep kiddos busy longer at the lake. Bring fishing gear for kiddos too or even corn to watch the fishes come to eat it.
