Friends and family gathered to make this a truly memorable occassion in this lovely place. Located on a main street in Avila Beach, the Community Center is behind the Post Office. Since virtually everything in Avila is relatively new, this is a bright modern and very functional space with a lovely view from the back balcony. There is a large parking lot below, which is hampered a bit by some ongoing construction. As someone who coordinated a huge social event in the county for half a decade, I can really appreciate the facilities available here to the public. There is a large kitchen with a pass through to the main room, there are tables and chairs available, and bathrooms off a small side hall. The banquet/meeting room also has AV equipment available for rent if desired. The multi-purpose room holds up to 150 people depending on the use. The rates vary from $50-$60 per hour, and there is a security deposit as well as a cleaning fee, which also vary depending on usage. You don't have to live in Avila Beach to use this facility. You can get a discount by joining the Avila Beach Civic Assocation, and being a member for one year to obtain 25% off the fees. I attended as a guest, and really enjoyed the guests, the fresh sea air, and beautiful weather at Avila, as well as the gorgeous sunset as the event wound down. This is why I loved it, and why all my family is still talking about how ours was the best wedding they had ever been to: 1 - Really beautiful garden, and it is SLO, so you know the weather is going to be beautiful. There are lots of pretty benches and places to take photos. 2 - None of this dumb "all included package" junk, so you can have whatever you want! We had friend's as the musicians, DJ, photographers, bartender, officiant, and Mo's catered. Mmmmm .... Mo's. 3 - CHEAP. It is a city park, so you go pay a relatively small fee at the Parks and Rec. department to rent the area (I think it was $600ish), and then a $99 one day liquor license. 4 - It is roughly across the street from the Travelodge on Marsh, so you can reserve a block of rooms for your guests, and they can WALK to your wedding. And if not ... there is ample parking. 5 - It is close enough to downtown to go to bars and stuff after, but far enough away that there is little noise from traffic. So yeah, maybe it isn't great if you have a HUGE family (ours was about 130 people, which was just right), and you do have to get all the tables, linens, your cake, and everything there and set up ... but really ... grab a few friends, and family members. We started at 8 am and had the place set up by 9:30or 10, which left plenty of time to get ready for our 3 o'clock ceremony. I wouldn't have changed anything about the day. Everything was perfect, and we didn't spend tens of thousands of dollars.

Everybody was dancing and had a good time. My husband bought a bottle of wine and we drink about half of it. I know some of the volunteers there and they really work hard. They're there every weekend when they have concerts setting up staying for the concert and then tearing down much appreciated. Always remember to tip wherever there's a tip jar. My brother and his girlfriend want to go with us when we go again next year. I even recognize people from last year. Great following.

We just attended a concert at the Lighthouse outdoor venue. It was fantastic! The music, the views,…read moreand the staff. But.............this was a bummer. You cannot bring in water. They make you dump it before you enter the seating area. The women at the entry was very rude when I asked why. So your only way to have water is to buy the small plastic bottles which are not great for drinking or for the environment. My suggestion would be to have a filling station inside the venue so people with water bottles could drink water for free in their own vessels.

A few months out of the year you can sign up for a guided tour of the lighthouse and its grounds…read more You meet the ranger at an abandoned motel and then follow them into the lighthouse property. It's two hours of walking so make sure to wear comfortable shoes. You'll see beautiful landscapes, historic buildings on the property and you'll go inside the lighthouse itself. You will not get to climb to the top of the lighthouse though. It's a beautiful way to spend time so I highly recommend you do this tour at least once if it's available during the time you're in the area.

First lit in 1875, the Piedras Blancas lighthouse is a National Historic Landmark as well as a…read moredesignated Outstanding Natural Area! It's surrounded by a marine sanctuary and the beaches and rocks are full of seabirds and elephant seals and more. If you can manage to get tickets for a tour, I highly recommend you jump on it - they're infrequent with limited availability - but so worth it! The tour starts at an old, out-of-use motel nearby - then you all get in your cars and follow the guide into the light station complex. After parking, you meet the tour guide for the grounds and they give a talk. Then you're free to explore for the rest of your allotted time. There are lots of historical buildings on the grounds to explore - with little "museums" in the gift shop, fog signal house, and lighthouse itself. You can even still see the foundation area of the original 1906 keeper's house - but the building was moved to nearby Moonstone Beach. You can't tour it but it's available to rent for overnight stays! Sadly, the top three floors of the lighthouse had to be taken down due to repeated earthquake damage - so the original lens (a first order Fresnel) was moved and is on display in nearby Cambria. But the signal is still functional and flashes every 10 seconds on its temporary replacement lens. They do have plans to fully restore the lighthouse to all its former glory - but are still trying to raise the funds - they have a GoFundMe on their website if you're interested. The grounds have tons of trails all around with amazing views of all the beaches and "piedras blancas" or "white stones" - covered in sea birds and seals! Definitely don't miss out on at least some of them. My only complaint is that they only give one tour a day (starting at 945am) and only allow you a total of two hours to explore - which is definitely not even close to being enough imo. Our tour guide's talk was 40-45 mins long so that left only about an hour to see all the museums and buildings and explore the trails. And they're strict on the time limit too :( But it's still totally worth it - and actually it's probably better for the protected nature environment lol! So see it if you get a chance bc it's a rare luxury!
