Near Cambria this one block town with a population of 18 was a fun little stop. They have a leather shop, a glass shop, a pottery shop and adorable outside gardens where they serve ice cream. If in the area make it a stop. Up the hilly drive way is wine tasting too.

Such a cool, little town, of 18. For something soo small it has a creamery and coffee shop, that are both second to none. They also have a ceramic shop and a glass blowing shop. And you could tell you're in central coast of California because there's a Winery that greets you right when entering the town. Harmony is definitely a great stop!

If you happen to be cruising along Highway 1, if you don't look quick, then you will miss this cute little town with a population of only 18 people as of the year 2000. We were there last summer and unfortunately by the time we arrived everything had closed up for the day but we did do a little walk around and checked out this cute town which is only 2.5 acres and currently owned by Alan Vanderhorst and his family. Harmony, California was founded in 1869 and it is known for its dairy's and creamery. It has been through many ups and downs through the years and with the town being purchased in 2014, the goal is to restore and preserve this historical town. There are a couple of businesses including the Harmony Valley Creamery which I really wanted to check out but they were already closed. There is also Harmony Glassworks, and Harmony Pottery Studio and Gallery. I will definitely be back here!

Scarecrow Contest Entry

Harmony is always a fun stop. This October, 2025, is again the Cambria Scarecrow Festival and Scarecrow contest. The Harmony Scarecrow entry is located in his Post Office room; Edgar Alan Poe. Thank you to the artists who created this wonderful display. Chuck & Vickie S.

We were here in Cambria for a plein air paint-away escape through my art club, So Cal PAPA. One of the stops for our plein air adventures was the tiny town of HARMONY, which is only a few minutes away from Cambria. Harmony basically becomes a ghost town after 5:00 pm every single day. No one is there after 5:00 pm except for the ghosts, but don't worry because they are friendly. Artists and visitors are able to drive up and park in the spacious gravel driveway area. Some nearby cows may greet you with their gentle mooing, but then again, maybe they're only talking amongst themselves. I set my easel and palette up to paint the Creamery; a historic building that was once the hub of town, back in the 1860's. Legend has it that William Randolph Hearst would stop in very often to buy the milk and butter that was produced here. Charlie Chaplin also stopped into the Creamery, along with other big names of that age. My art group was keen to paint a nocturne of Harmony. There is a mysterious light that glows in a neon green color above the Creamery building when it's very dark. It shuts on and off on it's own - nobody changes the light bulb ever. If you go to Harmony, please be in a state of harmony. Take care not to disturb anything. Restrooms are open 24 hours, so respect that courtesy please. This little town stole my heart, and now I know that I will return sometime in the future. During daytime hours, there is an active glass-blowing business at the end of the road. Also there is a pottery studio on the grounds, and if you are really in love with someone, you can get married and have a fully catered reception on the grounds of Harmony, Once again, this sweet little town that's surrounded by shapely cows welcomes you. There is a winery up the road that you can sip the grapes in. Take care of Harmony and know that ghost towns like this are precious and very rare. Have a harmonious day! X O

I love the little town of Harmony. It's absolutely adorable. Both times I have stopped by everything has been closed. It was still nice to walk around. Great places to take photos. I love anything cows and when you enter you will see Gladys. Make sure to stop by and take a picture with her. Our last visit I was able to peak in the chapel, It is so pretty. I am looking forward to my next visit and hopefully things will be open.

Neat little town (literally) both size wise and population wise. It does have some shopping and eats though, in addition to a post office and a wedding chapel. Stopped in on Christmas Day on the way to Cambria to snap some pics and check out the area. The pottery shop was open and had some unique gifts which we bought for some people who collect those types of items. The ice cream place and glass place were both closed. There are plenty of cow sculptures all around. You can see the whole place in 5 minutes or if you take your time and do some shopping maybe 30-45 minutes. If you are headed to Cambria and passing right by it is worth a stop, but I wouldn't drive out of my way to visit this place.

The quaint, small town of Harmony is open again! The town welcomes back visitors with open arms to their wonderful community. They ask all visitors to please be respectful of the businesses & their employees, as well as other visitors, by adhering to their guidelines of: 1) Please keep a 6-foot distance (2 arms lengths) between yourself and others; 2) Wear a face mask; and, 3) Wash up frequently...and Visit Often! Harmony is located north of Morro Bay & Cayucos and south of Cambria just off scenic & iconic California's Highway 1. The town consists of one short paved road with convenient parking prior to entering the town. Cars are no longer allowed beyond the parking area. Although Harmony was founded in 1869 as a dairy settlement, the town has gone through many changes since the turn of the century. In 2014, the town of approximately 2.5 acres became privately owned. As one enters this very small town with a population of 18, "Gladys" the art cow, greets visitors to the town. There is a plaza with beautiful, well-grown specimen plants & a seating area that leads to the Harmony Pottery Studio Gallery which offers many different and unique pieces of ceramic art for sale. Adjacent to the pottery studio is the uniquely designed wedding chapel with a wine barrel facade. For larger groups or gatherings, the Harmony Gardens are available. At this time it is best to call to verify what options are available during the pandemic. Continuing down the street, one passes the Harmony Valley Creamery Association building, which housed the former Post Office, and now the Harmony Chapel & Gardens Wedding Office. Across the street, the Harmony Valley Creamery vintage dairy delivery truck serves fantastic ice cream which is produced in small batches. At the end of the road is the artistic, hands-on studio of Harmony Glass Works. They specialize in hand blown glass & related products for sale, and offer classes in glass blowing techniques to the public. Harmony Cellars is a winery & tasting room which is approximately 1/4 mile south. Small towns are known for being friendly. Harmony will not disappoint. Come visit this rustic, artistic town and bring home a special momento (or three) for yourself or someone special.

This little town is off the 1, on the way to Cambria, and it's pretty easy to miss if you're not paying attention. It's a nice place to stop, stretch your legs and walk around. There's a pottery store and a glass shop, where everything is hand made. There is a small chapel and a building with some neat antiques along with the history of Harmony. There is also the old creamery and an ice cream truck that sells their ice cream. (And it is DELICIOUS.) And up the hill is a winery and restaurant if you're looking for a sit down meal or wine tasting. So if you're cruising up north on the 1, and need a pit stop, check out Harmony.

The Town of Harmony is worth stopping for. Three main attractions - the glass shop, pottery shop, and winery. There is a small place to eat and an ice cream truck there as well certain times of the week. If nothing else, it's a worthwhile stop to get out of your car, stretch your legs, and read about the 150ish year history of this cute little spot.

The cutest little town I ever did see... population 18!! Yes you read that right!!! They have a cute little property here on this small one block of shops that is an air bnb!!! Next time I'd love to stay there!! Old town feels here like you're on a movie set because it's so tiny. Super clean too!

The town of Harmony gives new meaning to the term small town feel. The population of Harmony is 18. Yup, you read this correctly. There are a total of 18 folks living here. Not many towns in the U.S.A. have a smaller population than Harmony. It is quite peaceful in Harmony. They have a Post Office, Art Gallery, Winery, and more. They sell ice cream certain days of the week too. Cool place to check out when you are travelling along Hwy 1.

Have you never stopped at Harmony while driving on the Coast Highway?! If not, you're missing out on a fun little adventure! We had been by there so many times and hardly given that little town of 18 residents a second glance. Recently we decided to pull off and check it out. There was going to be a wedding there on the day we visited. We checked out the little shops and got a few items at the glass works store. It was really cool to watch the guy who was sculpting glass when we were there. And of course we couldn't leave without getting some ice cream at the vintage milk truck/ice cream stand. It was fabulous! By the time we left, the sleepy little town of Harmony was full of cars and people on their way to the wedding. Definitely a fun little detour!

Ask the Community - Town of Harmony

Are they planning to develop the town of Harmony?

It was for sale in the past. I don't think it's a highly lucrative move to develop something that exists in the midlle of nowhere.

Pier was longer than I expected, which was nice because I love a good walk to the end of the pier. It's always so relaxing, and this one gives beautiful, uninterrupted views over the Pacific Ocean. It was slightly raining outside, so there weren't many people out. Really got a lot of the area to ourselves. Imagine this would be busier during the summer months, though. Surprised by how much parking they have around the area. Definitely worthy of a good stop.

The San Simeon…read morepier sits inside a dramatic cove surrounded by minty blue-green waves crashing on dark sand beaches at high tide with tons of extensive tide pools at low tides - a must when you're in the area. The pier that currently exists was built in 1957 - but the original pier was just a tad north of this one in the same cove, was built in the mid-late 1800s, and was a very important local hub of shipping and whaling activity. The beach surrounding the pier is WR Hearst Memorial Beach and is just stunning. The area is excellent for whale watching and fishing - activities that are fantastic from the pier itself but unfortunately it's temporarily closed due to storm damage. According to local news articles, the pier is being repaired and expected to reopen in the next year. Even though you can't walk out on it, it's still gorgeous from above and below especially. Great spot for pics, especially during sunset and tide pools during low tides. Lots of barnacles, anemones, and shore birds of course and tons of California Ground Squirrels on top of the cliffs!

Not once…read morehave we been able to visit this Museum because, every time we go there, we are greeted with a sign on the closed door saying they are closed for one reason or another. We were in Cambria in April of 2021. I complained about this fact to my friend Diane who is a resident. She told me that the staffing problem had been resolved. I think she said they were replacing the wealthy volunteers who always had more important things to do with actual employees who would want to work in order to get paid. Yeah, right. In preparation for this visit, I went on-line and found that their hours are "Friday through Sunday 1-4 PM and Monday 10 AM - 1PM." So my husband and I drove into town and parked nearby. When he got to the closed front door, it said that they had closed in January due to COVID. (Two years in.) I get a lot of emails from the Cambria Historical Museum. They seem to open when a Local has a book signing or other event. But, boy oh boy, they are 'never' open to the public. Maybe if they'd open their danged doors consistently during posted hours, they'd earn enough money to keep their doors open. Maybe it's a Catch-22. I don't know but I do know that "they" (whoever is in charge) really should be ashamed at themselves for not making this Museum available to the public. Lest you suspect that I'm exaggerating, please notice that there are only two reviews. That is because the Museum IS NEVER OPEN!

We were first attracted to the expansive grounds where families were sitting on benches and enjoying a sprawling, well-maintained garden. I always love when a museum doubles as an open to all place to stroll and enjoy without some fee required. You'll find a plaque that gives you some history. turns out this was the Guthrie-Bianchini house, built way back in 1870, occupied many times over and then saved through the efforts of the locals. The structure itself is quite nice and matches the aesthetic of the other occupied houses and businesses around it. It's not much, but it is just another thing people might take for granted when exploring. Consider sitting on the museum grounds and having lunch while in the area.
