BEWARE - Ongoing issues with office management and prescription handling…read more I have been a client at this practice for approximately 14 years, and unfortunately, my experiences with the office manager (female, shoulder-length brown hair, glasses) have consistently been negative. Her attitude and demeanor toward clients have been unprofessional for as long as I have been coming here, and I am confident many long-term clients will recognize exactly who I am referring to. Recently, these issues escalated in a way that directly affected my dog's pain management. I was only given a one-week supply of my dog's pain medication, and it then took an additional three business days just to obtain the printed prescriptions. One of my dog's medications was switched from liquid to pill form due to the office stating they were "out" of the liquid. The pill is extremely small and must now be cut into four pieces, which is impractical and increases the risk of inaccurate dosing. As a result of poor communication and delays, my dog is now without pain medication. The office was unexpectedly closed on a Saturday when they are normally open. I called at 7:00 a.m. the day prior to request a refill of gabapentin. I then received a call after the office had already closed, stating that they "needed more information" to fill the prescription--despite the fact that the same prescription had been filled just one week earlier, with only a one-week supply provided. No explanation was given for what additional information was needed. This pattern feels less like an isolated mistake and more like ongoing control over access to necessary medications, with no regard for the impact on pets or their owners. Additionally, the pricing is excessive. For example, I was charged approximately $40 for 30 gabapentin pills, while the same medication can be obtained through Chewy for about $9.60 for 120 pills. Based on my long history here and these recent events, I strongly caution pet owners. Prescription access is unreliable, communication is poor, medications are delayed or restricted without clear justification, and costs are unreasonably high. When it comes to your pet's comfort and pain management, these issues are unacceptable.

They took the time to explain everything clearly, answered all of our questions, and made sure my fur baby was comfortable throughout his visit. I've read reviews on this facility. In my opinion, the negatives don't add up. First of all, nothing is charged until you sign off on the services agreed upon. There is no surprise billing. Second, it's an emergency hospital, and yes, everyone feels their animal's illness is an emergency, which is why they come to the hospital. What they need to understand, like any ER/ED, the most crucial gets seen first. Keep up the good work :)

They get regular preventative care including all shots as well as monthly NextGuard and HeartGuard purchased from our vet practice. We had an wonderful vet before our move so when we were given a bunch of recommendations from new neighbors and co-workers, we had a pretty good idea of what we were looking for -- a practice with experienced veterinarians, friendly staff, and not necessarily in a fancy/new facility (past experience was higher cost for care to help pay for the upgrades.) Melbourne Animal Hospital was the second vet we saw. The experience was almost identical to our vet back home and the cost was actually slightly less. We already have somewhere to board our dogs and do drop-off daycare when needed so any expanded services aren't something we needed to take into account. We just need good preventative medical care and someone we trust if an emergency comes up. Melbourne Animal Hospital meets that need for us.

I met Dr. Columbo while she was working at Patrick AFB Vet Clinic, and then I started using her office which is located right off of the 192 Causeway as you enter into Indialantic. Dr. Columbo is the sweetest and most caring Vet I have used in years. She helped my basset hound and our terrier mix for over 4 years. The first incident I had with my basset hound was his skin allergies. She gave me a topical lotion (which a previous Vet wouldn't offer him) and meds to help Boomer. My second major visit was when my basset hound had a serious eye issue that was misdiagnosed with another vet. Dr. Columbo immediately tested him for glaucoma...she was right! She gave me the good and bad news and gave him the best care. She even went above and beyond to call around to other local vets to see if someone could perform the eye surgery cheaper for me than the specialty doctor. As a vet I would recommend her to each and every person I could. I spoke highly of her to friends, coworkers, etc. Her office staff is very sweet as well to my family. They always recognized me by my first name and offered my dogs treats after each of their visits. I will admit that they could be hard to get ahold of in the office, but my best timing was around 9 in the morning. I was always able to call my heart worm meds in ahead of time, and she would have every thing ready for me when I came to pick it up that afternoon of the same day. The ladies even went above and beyond and gave me a baby gift (puppy onesie outfit with pants and stuffed dog) when I was pregnant with my second child. You cannot ask for a sweeter gesture of kindness than that I think! The office is very small but welcoming to everyone as soon as you drive up. She has it decorated very nicely outside and inside. She offers local pet decor, natural pet foods, pet supplies, and pet gifts. They even offer a 10% Military Discount towards office visits and pet supplies!
