Ok, so I have seen a recent review about a customer who recently joined this post. As a previous…read moremember of the post and a member that cannot wait to get back to this post, I would like to greatly extend my apology for the horrible experience you had while being there. I cannot wait to leave the San Francisco area and get back and help this post out. I have a lot of passion for this post and I again am sorry for you horrible experience. There are many of people who know me at this establishment and I promise you it is not normally like this. There are a lot of great veterans there and also some of the staff that works there are strictly volunteers and do not understand all of the rules that go on with the VFW. They have many great feeds and an open bar with great prices. The food is extremely affordable and the service is usually spot on. There may be a few patrons that push people away, but for the most part, this post is very accepting of new people and helping spread the word. Jim Weaver is an excellent man and this post is one of my favorites. I miss everyone here and cannot wait to get back.

I joined the VFW mainly because they have a nice pool table that I can play on during lunch. I went…read morein, asked all the pertinent questions about the table (in terms of things such as availability, do I need to purchase food to play, etc.). Content with the answers I received, I paid my $25 fee and was given a card indicating membership. Now, the problem. I go in Friday at lunch and the bartender comes over and tells me that a group of men come in every Friday to play and that I'll have to leave when they show up as "they have kind of a reservation". I then asked, "Oh ok. So I can reserve the table for other times?" She responded, "No. You can't reserve the table. But, they're 4 people and they buy lunch." (In other words, they spend more money than you, so you need to go away.) Ok. At least 2 problems I can see here: 1) How is it that these 4 men have carte blanche to "kind of reserve" the table if it can't be reserved, and 2) if it can't be reserved, what business is if of hers (the bartender) to police who's on a table that can't be reserved?! Her business is behind the bar. I'm sure that when the guys showed up, we could have worked out an agreement. Maybe, I leave. Maybe, I join them. Who knows? The bottom line is that it's extremely rude and unprofessional to effectively imply to a paying customer that other paying customers have special rights not enjoyed by all. If they have some sort of nepotistic thing going on here, then fine. Tell me before hand, and I won't join. But it's poor business to take my money and then tell me after the fact that there are two sets of rules. Ok. It's a measly $25, but it's the principle that counts here. I planned my lunch hour on this, and now have no time to go anywhere else to eat or shoot some stick. I'm definitely going to complain as loudly to the highest levels I can to get my $25 back and to ensure that others know about how these people conduct business.

Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing across the board due to a complete lack of oversight and management. During bowling, there was no enforcement of basic lane courtesy or policies. Other bowlers repeatedly ignored turn-taking etiquette, which significantly slowed our play. Because we were practicing proper courtesy while others were not, we lost time -- and since bowling is charged by the hour rather than by the game, we effectively paid for time we couldn't use. No staff intervention, guidance, or monitoring was present. The mini-golf experience was similar. There was no supervision at all. People were going out of turn, grown adults were touching and interfering with the decor, and multiple individuals were in the water features, which felt unsafe and completely unmanaged. It was chaotic and disrespectful, with no staff stepping in to maintain order. To make matters worse, within hours of eating at the on-site restaurant, my 15-year-old son became violently ill with repeated vomiting and diarrhea for over 20 hours straight, resulting in a nearly five-hour visit to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital ER the next night for dehydration and uncontrolled vomiting. I also became ill, though less severely. The common food item we shared was ground beef (patty melt and nachos). Both of us ate the nachos and we were the only two that got sick. When I called the next day to notify the restaurant, the response was immediately defensive, with no concern expressed and no offer of a refund -- I had to ask. I later learned the manager I spoke with oversees both the restaurant and entertainment operations, which unfortunately aligned with our overall experience. I understand that businesses get busy. What's unacceptable is the absence of basic supervision, customer care, and accountability across every part of the visit. This was not a one-off issue -- it reflected systemic poor management.
