Cheney Stadium - Free summer movie night!

    Cheney Stadium

Cheney stadium has definitely made us true minor league baseball fans…read more Why are we such big fans now? Well here's a few reasons why: Rainiers fans are fun and lively, This stadium is very open, Parking is convenient, Food and drink lines are fast and reasonably priced, Multiple food options so you're not just eating the same thing over and over, Tickets are CHEAP! And finally, views that are just stunning on a sunny PNW day. I recommend taking the whole family to as many games as you can during baseball season. That way you can truly enjoy one of America's best past times, become a fellow Rainer's fan, and take in all the beautiful PNW views.

Got there about an hour before game time and was able to secure parking. I noticed later that the parking lot all filled up rather quickly. This was for a Sunday game, so it was a large crowd. One tip that you may want to keep in mind... If you are going to a day game during the summer and don't wanna sit in full sun, try to find seats behind home plate. The first and third base sides of the field were in full sun for most of the game. Lots of different concessions and they had a large number of staff working each one to keep the crowd moving along. I tried Farrelli's pizza and it was great. Huge piece of pizza! Restrooms were kept clean throughout the game and plenty of security on hand to ensure that all patrons felt safe. All in all, this was a great afternoon and a great experience. I look forward to my next visit.

The stadium is clean, easy to get around, and has a really good atmosphere. Sightlines are solid pretty much everywhere, and it's just a good place to watch a game whether you're a big baseball fan or not. Food options were a highlight. Grabbed a Coors Light, a Great State cheeseburger, and a Sumo Dog chili cheese, and everything hit. Also stopped by Marination for the ube coconut Krispy, which was a really good sweet option to mix things up. Lines moved pretty well and the staff kept things organized. It never felt chaotic even with a full crowd. Between the game, the food, and the overall vibe, it's easily one of the better ballpark experiences. Definitely a place I'd come back to for another game.

Imo, stadium food can be hit or miss, but I was so pleasantly surprised by how every single thing we ordered was DELICIOUS! We went for the Rib Platter, and it was worth every penny. The ribs were perfectly smoky and literally fall-off-the-bone tender with that glossy, glassy skin you only get with high-quality BBQ. The sauce had just the right balance of sweet and tangy, and even the sides were phenomenal. Usually, sides are an afterthought at a stadium, but both the baked beans and the creamy macaroni and cheese were delicious. I'm already looking forward to the next game at the stadium; mostly so I can get my hands on this barbecue again, lol. If you're looking for the best meal in the park, this is definitely it!

Before delving into all that, though, I will summarize some of its best features: * Free parking (in the east lot only, however) * Wonderful security, concession, and event staff (minus one manager in particular) * Spacious venue, with great sight lines, even from the floor Now, on to the problem: Myself, my wife, and another 20-or-so attendees had VIP Meet & Greet tickets to meet one of the bands in the lineup for our event, to which we were invited into the venue early to hang out with them, take pictures, etc. Although our band was not the headliner, we were told by event staff that, once our session was done, we'd have to head back outside. However, we were explicitly told to line up behind the VIP line for the headliner, and once their session was one, we'd ALL be allowed entry into the venue early, partially to avoid the 90+ degree heat and direct sunlight hitting the glass and reflective mirrors on the sunny-side of the building, where our lines were told to assemble. We confirmed this multiple times with the gentleman, who was friendly, warm, helpful and welcoming. Once we were back outside, things took a turn south, as the Events Manager, the aforementioned smug, rude, condescending and callous mentioned above, decided otherwise, and subjected nearly two dozen people to several hours of sun exposure, simply due to her being on some sort of power trip. Multiple people in our group would end up suffering from heat-related health issues, including two diabetics. Thankfully, some of the caring concession staff inside, noticing our plight, offered some free cold beverages to help alleviate their suffering. Despite being informed of what the previous gentleman had said, as well as the condition of the people suffering in the heat, the Events Manager continued to be smug and dismissive, her response always distilling down to basically "because I said so". Her final excuse was that our tickets simply could not be scanned for entry prior to a certain time, which is true to a point. However, as one of the people in our group worked for Ticketmaster, and informed her, and everyone present, that this is adjustable by the venue AND Ticketmaster, she ran out of excuses. Once we were finally inside, things were great, once people had recovered from the heat. However, this Events Manager put people's live in danger for no reason other than exerting her power, and that is in excusable. A complaint is being filed with the BBB by multiple people in our group, as well as formal complains with the venue's ownership and upper management. At the VERY least, in the future, ShoWare Center needs to inform their management that extended queues for summer events MUST be moved to the shaded side of the building, and when people start to suffer legitimate risks to their health, then it's time to take action...or be the subject of legal action taken against them.
